RatMaster999: FERRETS ARE NOT RODENTS!

Just about to say that. Ferrets are Mustelidae, and more closely related to wolverines that rats.

I once had a female ferret.  Her name was Fawcett.

I'd be way more pissed if I tried to buy two ferrets and got poodles instead. If he got two ferrets for $150 he got a pretty good deal. They're still illegal in California for some silly reason:( Had two when I was younger - like hyperactive slinkys on crack.

Ferrets are weasels, not rodents.  As a matter of fact a bunch of ferrets together is called a business.  The business that ferrets are into is always loan sharking.

This doesn't make much sense. At $75 dollars each the scammer can't have made much if any profit off of them. The cost of the ferret, food, and steroids can't have been insignificant. Argentina is cheaper than the US but not that cheap. They maybe made $75 off of this guy and that doesn't include time or labor. And how often can this scam possibly work? Maybe once or twice a week if you make selling a full time job?

I just don't see where this scheme would make much money. I think you'd have better luck purse-snatching.

This made me laugh out loud and and I don't know why.  And I'm still chuckling at it.  And my wife asked me why I was laughing and when I told her she started laughing too.

Now if you pumped up a gerbil and sold him as a miniature bull dog, or maybe some caterpillars and then sell them to Trekkies as tribbles. These mice I'm workin' on just look like huge, angry mice.

Did they actually test the blood of these animals for the presence of "steroids" or was that just a colorful embellishment to make the story better? I imagine a ferret on a true anabolic steroid like Dianabol or something would a farking nightmare of a pet to care for.

Excuse me for pointing out the obvious, but ... ferrets have a strong odor.
I mean, they stink.
Even if bathed weekly.

They're cute and curious, and playful, and give a dog a run for it's money, but they smell.

To The Escape Zeppelin!:

I just don't see where this scheme would make much money.

I'm reminded of Benny Hill....  In one skit, he got a job as the "oiler" for the Swedish Bikini Team.  It was 18 grueling hours a day.  His friend asked him about the money involved.  "Ten pounds a week" he replied.  "Why, that's almost nothing!" his friend counters.  "It was all I could afford."

This has to be an urban legend reported as fact.  I remember reading this same story several times over my lifetime.  The earliest being when I was a little kid and thought everything in Weekly World News was true, but it was a family who found a 'chihuahua' in Mexico and a vet told them it was a rat when they took it to the vet for shots.

If you're bathing your ferret regularly, that's a lot of *why* it stinks, since it's replacing its skin oils. Kiwi has a very mild smell (less than a lot of dogs I know) and hasn't needed a bath in a year.

You do not know much about how people care for their pets in South America do you?  The majority give them  a minimal about of dogfood, if dog food, but they mostly live on table scraps, which is why it is nothing to see a dog eating an avocado or a mango.

You can get a ferret for literally five bucks, they probably have some jackass breeding a bunch of them, and the food costs next to nothing, so 60 bucks of those 75 is profit.

You'd be really, REALLY surprised what a ferret costs a breeder even in the US. Pennies.

Poorly written article....

> refers to ferrets as rodents

AND

> shows a domestic ferret in the "looks like a poodle" pics..... THEN shows a Black-Footed Ferret, which is a wild weasel which is NOT the same as the ferrets you can buy at a pet store.

All ferrets stink.  Ferret owners don't realize it, but they do.  Even if they are de-scented and properly cared for.  Every single house I've ever been in with ferrets REEKED of them.

1) As has been pointed out, ferrets are not rodents.
2) Ferrets make fine pets.  Maybe not the most well-mannered animals but they're a pretty standard pet.
3) Even on steroids, they look nothing like poodles.
4) Nice marmot.
