Mmmmmhmmmm. That, and some Patsy Cline or maybe some old school Dolly Parton and you've got yourself a good drinkin' night. My grandfathers generation knew country, this new stuff is crap. Todays country music is too much like modern pop music, I can't tell the difference. Taylor Swift might have a pretty singing voice, but she is NOT country.

/LOVE the old stuff

It feels like the 1970's all over again in country music.  Bunch of wannabes that can't crack top 40 music, so they head over to country stations.  Alan Jackson's great "Gone Country" sums it up nicely.

Ugh... referring to anything from Alan Jackson as "great" sums up the current state of country music pretty nicely, too.

The only current country singer I know of is Toby Keith, only because Marcia Brady tore him a new one in a roast.

Omg. Can Dierks Bentley crawl any farther up Barf Brooks rearend?   Far more living legends have performed on stage at "taped" award ceremonies.  I guess Dierks was in bed fondling his Underoos when the Highwaymen performed for the CMA's....or when Tammy and George performed at the CMA's after all their bad blood... or when Loretta and Conway reunited for the CMA's.

Oh wait, that was for the CMA's held in Nashville, not this p.o.s. chucked out turd of a non-prestigious award.

The last authentic country show I attended was at the Grand Ole Opry (the new one, not Ryman). Little Jimmy Dickens? Check.

Everything else is warmed-over "lite" rock. With few exceptions, there are no country acts left in "country" music.

Yeah I can barely stand to listen to Garth anymore. He sounds too dated now. At least Straight's sound has evolved enough to be listenable while still staying true to his roots.

I couldn't stand him even when he was performing here in Nashville in his early days performing at Tootsie's and The Blue Bird Cafe.  He's always been such an arrogant *rick.  Then he came out with all that alter-ego Chris Gaines crap in a weird effort to corner another market of the music industry.   He's a jerk and there's been good reason he was sent to the mothballs.  Why he was brought out again is beyond me.  George Straight came along the same time as Garth Brooks, but the difference between the two is George is actually genuinely talented and good natured, whereas Garth Brooks is a mimic, a phony, and royal a-hole.

Ooooh, my bad Mr. Grammar Nazi, I misspelled Georges last name. However, other than that, I'm not off nor wrong by any means.  I've worked for over 34 years on Music Row and later,  down on Broadway where I personally  watched both George and Garth blow out their tunes at Tootsies during the early '80's an well into the late '90's.  I also saw both of them on Open Mic nights at The Blue Bird Cafe, first with George in 1983 and Garth in 1986.  Despite George having cut a record in '81, it was still slow going for him.  The Nashville music community was a good ol' boy mentality back in those days and very cliquey.  George helped pave a way for new talent.  Emmylou Harris, John Prine, even Bill Monroe -who put on a show out in Goodlettesville every Saturday night-, gave George a leg up.  But Garth Brooks? Nope. He was the greedy bunch in the new kids in town.  He didn't want anything but to kiss *ass.  He's never reached back to help anyone but himself.

I don't care if you doubt my credibility.  I know where I stand on my experience with both of them, first-hand and for years on end... in and of themselves.
