A couple people have pointed out that this is a repeat from September of 2010, but we let it run again for those of you who hadn't seen it the first time.

Yep, that was part of Carlin's "40 Years of Comedy" special on HBO...and worth every laugh.

His advertising monologue is spot-farking-on (Exhibit A: the "organic"/"health food" industry).

8:20 - "Every person that you look at, you can see the Universe in their eyes if you're really looking."

I haven't desired alcohol in six years.  I'm gonna get shiatfaced the day he dies.

At the end when Carlin said to the effect "I like what you do and I know you'll show them something" I was impressed that he noticed the real talent behind Jon, even before he started on the Daily Show which came a year or 2 later.  Carlin got a full 10 years to see that he was indeed correct.

So, what's with the leather jacket and the greaser hairdoo?

Hate to be a downer, but your a little late.

George Denis Patrick Carlin (May 12, 1937 - June 22, 2008) was an American stand-up comedian, social critic, satirist, actor, and writer/author who won five Grammy Awards for his comedy albums.

/The good news is there's hours and hours of his material on youtube

Welcome to late 1990's MTV, when music videos were going extinct and the rise of "The Real World" type shows took over.  There was a pretty cool 2-4 year period on MTV for a while.

Carlin: "Sometimes you get applause for just being alive."

I'd give him a standing ovation if he could pull that trick today.

He asked some good questions, but I have to say not knowing that George Carlin was raised by a single mother is failing the basic research portion of being a great interviewer. He was still good, but a lot of this segment is just Carlin being very honest and giving good, long answers.

I like how Jon is clearly awed but asking questions that are pointed and astute.

I guess I'm either wrong about how long I've not desired alcohol or about being shiatfaced on that date.

Well the Carlin part of things is awesome as always...Stewart sucked as hard then as he does now.

Saw him as a teenager in the late 70's, so, I guess I'm part of the family too.

was stuck in youtube a few nights ago, was watching lots of "inside the actors studio" episodes. Watched the George Carlin one. Was interesting. Watch it.

/can't believe that Lipton was 10 years OLDER than Carlin (ie. 77 v.s. 67).... he looks 10 years younger!

It was an okay interview. It wasn't nearly as funny as the Daily Show. The tone was too sincere.

Thanks for sharing, 'mitter, and thanks for allowing it, mods.  I hadn't seen it before and it made my afternoon.

I made it a point to see him in 2006 because he was a genius and I knew he wouldn't be around forever. He did an hour and 15 minutes or so of almost all new material. I was fully expecting to already have heard every joke he told, that was not the case. One in particular I recall was he just said 'fark Lance Armstrong, fark him and his one nut.'

You come off as the kind of tool that only likes Carlin because you think it makes you look cool, while in reality Carlin likely would have considered you a twat.

Yes, if someone doesn't like what you like, they must be a part of that mean evil political party that opposes the valiant saintly political party that you're a fan of.

Normally I'd be inclined to agree with you, but for the most part Farkers are very partisan about their likes and dislikes. But I caught your sarky little tone there, so well done and meow back to you, oh easy to offend one.

Back in the Class Clown/ AM-FM/ An Evening with Wally Londo days, George was the indisputable master. My friends and I memorized the great majority of those three albums word-for-word. Alas, the GOP and the RIAA pricks in business suits, sucking on big brown dicks finally got to him and made him an angry old man towards the end of his days. Even though his later material was more sour and he tended towards saying everything he said twice, there was *still* never a time where he wasn't spot-on.

Nowhere since has there been another stand-up with the ability to tell you why you should be rioting in the streets, and make you laugh about it.
