Jensaarai: Adolf Oliver Nipples: I know that. Yet they refer to each other as "the 48", "the 24", "the 10", whatever. It's common, and it's annoying. It's been a long-time biatch of mine. I guess I'm just not redneck enough for NASCAR.

Meh. That big number is the most consistent aspect of any car visually, and it's good shorthand when so many drivers swap sponsors or even rides these days. The 11 is normally Hamlin, now it's Mark, later it'll be Vickers. The 55 can be Mark, Mikey, or Vickers. It's even crazier in Nationwide or Trucks, where they change rides so often even the announcers fark up who is in what car.

Then it's just good shorthand for live threads.

Plus a savvier poster can use it to distinguish between the way the car looks, VS how the driver acts.

I don't see it as a redneck thing, just a quirk of the visual presentation with a dash of practicality. Thinking it's a "redneck thing" comes from your pre-existing view of NASCAR as a redneck sport, so any quirk of the language associated with it becomes a sign of redneckery, even if the reason for the quirk has more to do with the sport, and less with how its fans and drivers would talk if those circumstances were different.

*applause*

Gosling: clear_prop: Also NASCAR has 43 cars in the race. F1 has what, like 20?

22. And there's not nearly as much done in F1 to stop teams from just making things a technological arms race that you can tell who won from the moment they leave the paddock on Opening Day.

As evidenced by the fact that the pole winner has won the first two rounds of the season, dominated by Ferrari who spend the most money out of any team in F1.

Oh no, wait, sorry. The opposite of that.

My uncle, who lives in Mass is planning on going if it happens so if he does, I'll join him. I've never been to a race of any kind other than short-track local races.

I'll be there as well, good friend lives downtown.

WHAT?! I've never been to an F1 race, but have seen half or more of the Cup tracks.

She has missed plenty of opportunities for the wreck interview and early flight home plan.  There's still a lot of race left to do so.  Got to beat those lines at the private jet runway.  Them FAA cuts have messed things up for them.

I have been to Watkins Glen, but not to see a race. That's about 150 miles from me and that's the closest Cup track.

No, it comes from that fact that I don't do it and I think it makes the speakers sound completely uneducated. It makes the sport about the cars and not the drivers. Apparently that only bothers a few of us, though.

By taking a race from someplace that didn't pay a bribe that satisfied His Lordship.

They're not. They are supposed to race both tracks on different race weekends.

The original idea was to have both of em on the season. There's no rule of only one GP per country.

Ecclestone will fix it by giving the US zero races again at a whim. Just as soon as that Saudi Arabian check clears.

The plan is to have 2 Grands Prix here. One called the American GP and one with another name.

Johnson's already in front, they don't need any more "cautions".

Apparently MRN has hired the ridiculously hot Kendra Jacobs to just read/shout tweets over the sound of the cars.

Last to 20th at Martinsville might not be headlineworthy like they may want to treat it, but it'd still be legitimately praiseworthy, IMO.
