Now who has the pool for what corners Joey gets wrecked in, and the count for each corner?

He moved down a bit, but even if he had kept his line, she didn't have much room.

She late braked and stuck her nose in too small a spot.  If she had gotten up next to him, it would be different, but she barely got to his rear quarter panel.

I'm not a Danica hater, that was just a dumb move.

The entire Danica Show. She went to the back after an engine change, got herself back up into the mid-30's in very short order, and then got reckless by trying to go under an already-low Ken Schraeder and spun out when he ran her out of room.

THAT would lead to some ontrack lulz.

Give one to an ARCA driver for maximum lulz.

From my nephew: give one of those rides to Milka Duno.

Evil.  I like that.

She does tend to bring sponsorship *and* lulz with her. But if I were going to just straight up give her a ride, then we're close to the old "I-Wreck" idea from last year. Heheh.

Go Fast Turn Left: ClavellBCMI: clear_prop: Gosling: ...what the fark did he do? Did he just, like, pull over?

Pulled over to cause the yellow.

I know he's a start-and-parker these days, but you are supposed to park it on *pit road* not the track itself.

He was on pit road a few laps before with a problem.  Car sounded bad coming by a few laps prior.  My guess is the engine just shut off.

Ouch. There's start-and-parking by choice, and then there is your car deciding to park during the race itself while on track. Martinsville is NOT a good track for the second option to happen.

The really stupid thing is that an actual gyro cam would probably be cheaper than a tech tilting the video manually.

ESPN did one of their 30 for 30 things about him. IIRC, they gave him the award money right away, but gave the trophy and victory lane celebration to Baker. Their justification was that they were afraid what would happen if the local pageant winner (a white girl) gave him the ceremonial kiss on the cheek in front of said derptastic crowd. The thing that is huge bullshiat is that his family didn't get the trophy until after he died decades later and NASCAR decided they needed to start fixing their "image."

Meh. That big number is the most consistent aspect of any car visually, and it's good shorthand when so many drivers swap sponsors or even rides these days. The 11 is normally Hamlin, now it's Mark, later it'll be Vickers. The 55 can be Mark, Mikey, or Vickers. It's even crazier in Nationwide or Trucks, where they change rides so often even the announcers fark up who is in what car.

Then it's just good shorthand for live threads.

Plus a savvier poster can use it to distinguish between the way the car looks, VS how the driver acts.

I don't see it as a redneck thing, just a quirk of the visual presentation with a dash of practicality. Thinking it's a "redneck thing" comes from your pre-existing view of NASCAR as a redneck sport, so any quirk of the language associated with it becomes a sign of redneckery, even if the reason for the quirk has more to do with the sport, and less with how its fans and drivers would talk if those circumstances were different.

Pretty much. Numbers are more practical than names when there's 20 relevant names exchanging often for 3+ hours, whereas names make more sense when there's far less passing/exchanging between just 2 or 3 (or ZERO) guys at the front for less than half that time.

No, it comes from that fact that I don't do it and I think it makes the speakers sound completely uneducated. It makes the sport about the cars and not the drivers. Apparently that only bothers a few of us, though.

2013-04-07 04:47:51 PM
The 78 is on fire...

Wtf!

2013-04-07 04:47:54 PM
Dammit Kurt4

2013-04-07 04:47:56 PM
KURT EN FUEGO!

2013-04-07 04:47:57 PM
Ouch, Kurt!

2013-04-07 04:47:57 PM
Burning Busch

{pacedog.jpg}

2013-04-07 04:48:04 PM
Kurt Busch berserk meter must be almost full by now.

2013-04-07 04:48:11 PM
Ouch.

2013-04-07 04:48:25 PM
And KuBu bails from a flaming wreck after hitting the fire extinguisher system.

2013-04-07 04:48:29 PM
Way to make it exciting KuBu!

2013-04-07 04:48:35 PM
Oh wow...Kurt. I ain't a fan but glad to see him out of that.

2013-04-07 04:48:47 PM
Damn, I thought the extinguisher fluid was fuel. A broken line there could've gotten ugly.

2013-04-07 04:48:53 PM
The flaming Busch.

2013-04-07 04:48:59 PM

DanZero: *switches back to NASCAR*

48?!

dammit idol let's go

The voodoo idol put Jimmie on top... Dunno why, but the voodoo doll does not like the 88 today

2013-04-07 04:49:21 PM

ClavellBCMI: rhiannon: Gordan? Man I've only been awake for an hour. Time for a beer.

Dear God, what hours do you normally work?

Well in this situation (fortunately?) it was just a case of working to get really drunk on a Saturday night/Sunday morning. It was successful.

2013-04-07 04:49:29 PM
Kurt Busch is living for giving the devil his due.

2013-04-07 04:49:41 PM
Red!

back to IndyCar

2013-04-07 04:49:42 PM
Dammit Kurt....you're 11 laps early to go up in flames.

/who's gonna give us the GWC this week?

2013-04-07 04:49:44 PM
And the red flag comes out to get the toasted 78 off the track.

2013-04-07 04:50:24 PM
I've never seen the fire suppression deployed on a race car.  That worked great.  I had a car that really needed this technology about 20 years ago.

2013-04-07 04:50:35 PM

What_Would_Jimi_Do: Kurt Busch is living for giving the devil his due.

He needed more cowbell.

2013-04-07 04:50:41 PM
BURNING BUSCH!

2013-04-07 04:51:03 PM

swampgirl: glad to see him out of that

Same here.

What_Would_Jimi_Do: Kurt Busch is living for giving the devil his due.

Subtle.  Very nice.

2013-04-07 04:51:11 PM
So which race finishes first.  NASCAR or IndyCar?  Indy is at 35 laps to go, and started 2 hours later.

2013-04-07 04:51:24 PM

Ok, I can buy that (finished off a 12-pack of Heineken myself Friday night, didn't wake up until damn near 10 AM Saturday.

2013-04-07 04:51:56 PM
Think Gordon is going to throw bowyer into the wall just to say hi?

2013-04-07 04:52:14 PM

DanZero: Red!

back to IndyCar

It's so annoying that they think they can still compete with NASCAR head to head. If it was a bad idea for F1, it's a terrible idea for Indycar in its current state. Maybe if it were Kansas or something for Cup.

clear_prop: So which race finishes first.  NASCAR or IndyCar?  Indy is at 35 laps to go, and started 2 hours later.

Gonna be awfully close now

2013-04-07 04:53:06 PM
They'll start just like they did last time, let's see if the 24 can hold position better this time.

2013-04-07 04:53:07 PM
Well the Mets rally from down 3-2 to win in the bottom of the 9th and I refresh the thread to find out I missed a non-Montoya fire!

2013-04-07 04:53:14 PM
nascarcasm @nascarcasm

Apparently Martinsville Speedway is upset at Kurt Busch for extinguishing an effiecient way to cook about 200 hot dogs at once.

2013-04-07 04:53:14 PM
Hey Clint Bowyer.  Nobody thought anything of how you raced Gordon, that is until now.

2013-04-07 04:53:26 PM

catastrophe averted: I've never seen the fire suppression deployed on a race car.  That worked great.  I had a car that really needed this technology about 20 years ago.

Remember when Dale Sr's crew used that to cool off the brakes on race. As per usual in Dale's case, NASCAR then instituted a rule about that.

33 laps to go for IndyCar :)

I really don't enjoy switching networks (and threads)

smerfnablin: Think Gordon is going to throw bowyer into the wall just to say hi?

He may do so, but if he does, he can say "bye bye" to his hopes of finishing 2nd in the championship behind Jimmie this year.

2013-04-07 04:56:12 PM

good_2_go: Apparently MRN has hired the ridiculously hot Kendra Jacobs to just read/shout tweets over the sound of the cars.

And to interview drivers at the medical center.

/Kurt was quite calm

2013-04-07 04:56:28 PM
Go Biffle!

2013-04-07 04:56:48 PM
I thought Kurt was straight. I never knew he was a flamer

(see, because his car was on fire...)

2013-04-07 04:56:59 PM
Sounds like KuBu's brakes decided to go on vacation and introduce him to the wall while they were at it.

2013-04-07 04:57:00 PM
Kurt's meds are working.  It's good to see.

2013-04-07 04:57:23 PM
Looks like we still get creepy cheerful Kurt, with notes of passive aggressive criticism. His blow up 20 weeks from now will be epic.

2013-04-07 04:57:31 PM
He said courtesy Pump

How are you feeling, Warchild?  Ready for the victory dog soon?

2013-04-07 04:59:06 PM
So Husky is the tool brand at Home Despot.  I always thought it was a comment about Tony Stewart.

Who botches the restart? I call Bowyer.

2013-04-07 05:00:42 PM
I knew a girl who would give courtesy pumps.

I liked her. She was very courteous to me.

Danica makes it up to 11th after starting 42nd?

2013-04-07 05:02:55 PM
Jeffy Boy playing nice with Bowyer. He backed way off in the middle of that corner when he could have nudged him. He's afraid.

What Warchild said.

2013-04-07 05:04:22 PM
And JJ somewhat saves my butt from a total loss in the pool.

2013-04-07 05:04:22 PM
He-Who_shall-Not-Be-Named wins... and Vickers spins out yet *again*.

2013-04-07 05:04:50 PM
Props to Harvick

the slo-mo of Kyle and Brad was impressive

2013-04-07 05:05:39 PM
isn't Vickers supposed to be the 55's short track ringer?

meh

MRN just called him "The Martinsville Master." And I died a little inside.

Sorry, Warchild.  I don't mind JJ, but I'm not a fan.

I did pick him today though, so I'm okay with this.

Kyle with the top 5.

No Line For Beer: Who didn't see Vickers getting tapped after the race?

I saw it.. he sorta tried to dump Danica, and Smoke's good buddy Harvick said "Enough of that shiat, dumbass!".

2013-04-07 05:06:52 PM
Almost forgot: Puke.

2013-04-07 05:07:39 PM

Jensaarai: Jeffy Boy playing nice with Bowyer. He backed way off in the middle of that corner when he could have nudged him. He's afraid.

I don't think that he was afraid.  He learned well from the great Rusty Wallace.  Never get payback on the day that they expect you to.  Save it as a surprise, then play it off with a fake apology.

2013-04-07 05:07:41 PM
nascarcasm @nascarcasm

"Danica finishes 12th! We'll speak to her in victory lane shortly..."

zzzzzzzz
JJ wins.

2013-04-07 05:07:51 PM

Why? That was just last-lap short track racing, Harvick gets assy at times.

2013-04-07 05:08:51 PM
Mike waltrip should be embarrassed to have vickers in the car
