You guys are still mad at Cuba? Really nice country, actually.

The government has no right to tell a Citizen where they can or cannot vacation

Not perfect, but no country is. If I want to check the place out as a tourist, there really is no fear that I'll start conspiring with their government to overthrow the US.

Obviously, they went for the classic car shows in Cuba. Cuba is a land that time forgot.  Its dangerous, even the mob stopped going.

I think us poor farks should be able to do what we want as well. I'm not outraged by Bey and Jay. A little miffed that any American should have to get permission to travel where they wish.

THIS.

I have no desire to go there, but I SHOULD have that freedom of choice.

/ IIRC, pretty much everyone else on Earth can go there, except us...

I've always wondered why the US has this embargo on Cuba but happily trades with China.

And how the US can claim to be land of the free while forbidding its own citizens from going somewhere. How does that work?

it works because its Propaganda.   most folks aren't smart enough to figure out they've been tricked and voted for obama AGAIN

and, of course, your boy bush let 'em waltz into cuba any time they please.  you can go back to your bong now.

I just want to go before the embargo is lifted because as soon as it's lifted every Floridian with a boat that can safely handle the 90 mile trip is going to be making day/weekend trips to Cuba just because it's there.

That's why I was there...I mean a couple weddings. Nice country.

FilmBELOH20: First, I'd love to go to Cuba.  I hear the diving is fantastic.  Second, I can't for the life of me understand why we still have an embargo in place.

Shoot, man, lift the Cuba embargo and the next thing you know Congress will be voting to decriminalize marijuana and legalize sodomy.

Tell me, is that the kind of country you want to bring up your kids in?

Lee Jackson Beauregard: yeegrek: Oh for farks sake, just lift the damn embargo.  It's Cuba, not Nazi Germany.

The embargo is supposed to encourage the Cuban people to oust the Castro brothers, or something like that.  50 years and it hasn't happened.  If anything, the embargo gives the Castro brothers an excuse.  Shortages?  Blame the malditos gringos.

It just needs more time!  What if they were going to cast them out in year 51, but America blinks?  Also, according to this thread.  Kruschev!

wonder if Cuba would take Reps. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and Mario Diaz-Balart back since they only pander to the Hispanic community and can care less about us English speakers in their districts.

I lived in Vietnam, and if I could find a job there that would make me enough money to pay off my student loans I'd move back in an instant. This obsession we have with Cuba isn't helping anyone, much less the actual Cuban people.

Okay here the skinny. Jay Z is scouting for land  to buy and resorts to build.
Obama is going to lift all that Cuban Embargo crap after 2014

See fun fact : White Cubans fled Castro ,they had the money and education. But the poor Cuban blacks were left to build the socialist paradise.

Now the well the old men and grandchildren of white republican cubans think they are going back to Cuba oneday and kicking the black folk off the land and out of the houses.

No way Jose. This is Jay Z 40,000.00 acres and mule.

// Cuba the elite new private reserve .
It's african word for Cuba.

Well at least they are not starting the 172nd vote to repeal Obama Care, so there's that.

Making an example of some high profile scoffers is what they appear to be doing.

If it wasn't for the Cuban exiles, the embargo would have been lifted a long time ago.... they friggin HATE the Castro regime.  It's also not that difficult to get department of treasury permission to go for a visit. (it's an economic embargo.. you can go to Cuba, but the moment you spend a dime you are breaking the law).  Even with Department of Treasury permission.. you still cannot bring back cigars :(

Can we just prevent them from re-entering the US?

2013-04-08 09:27:38 AM
I often wonder if the embargo was lifted, and their government became democratic, how many of the Cuban's in Miami would move back there.

Massive real estate crash in south Florida?

Been there myself a few times a few years ago when it was easier to go legally. However, I did get a sternly-worded letter from the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) demanding an accounting of my trip under pain of penalty, etc.

However, OFAC requested an accounting of a trip and had the dates listed incorrectly in their letter. I simply sent them a letter stating that I did not travel to Cuba on the dates they listed and therefore did not need to provide an accounting of my trip.

Never heard from them again. Pretty stupid mistake they made there.

Lift the embargo!

Average American here,

Lift the embargo, shiat I wasn't even alive for whatever "offense" they caused us, but I love ropa vieja and I want to get it from the source, I could give a shiat less about people losing their beachfront homes to the government.  It's obvious our punishment isn't hurting anyone that was involved.

Nationalizing billions in US assets, shooting down our aircraft, encouraging other revolutions, allowing our cold war enemies to use their ports for safe harbor, threatening to start a war that would have destroyed anything larger than microbial life on planet earth.

Sucks to be an island that pissed in the face of an empire, but you can't expect to do that without long lasting consequences.
If they want modernization then they can ask Putin for favors.

/lives a few islands over from there, could care less about Cuba.
