(ESPN)   It's the off season, less than a month before the draft and no team seems interested in Tim Tebow. Let's check in with ESPN to see if they'll be able to find a way to discuss Tim Tebow? Maybe throw together a Tim Tebow Top Ten?   (espn.go.com) divider line 76

I'm completely shocked that no NFL team wants a million-dollar media-circus prima-donna "quarterback" who can't actually throw.

What I don't get about him is he can at least run and is a bad passer, and there are a few teams starting with guys that cant run and are bad passers that are expensive and bring no publicity, seems like a good choice from a business standpoint

The time has come to ask two questions. Is Skip Bayless Tim Tebow's agent? How much of ESPN does Bayless own?

Don't think patriots use fullbacks, opting for two tight ends instead.

A, I highly doubt he's going to be anything other than a Republican and we have quite enough of those thank you very much.
B, if some team doesn't put him on the field, the fact that he managed to QB the Broncos from 'lost season' to 'playoff win' guarantees that if he never sees another snap, you will hear about him in perpetuity every time someone does a list of What Might Have Been players. If you kill him now, he will become immortal. The only way to prevent that is to have someone, in the NFL, put him on the field, as a quarterback, and wait for him to suck enough that his supporters shut up.

The Jets didn't do this already? Or was his lack of playing time just fuel for the "he never got a fair chance" crowd?

Slowest pass-release in 30 years in the NFL. Without his size and running ability he would have never gotten a second look.

No. The Jets DIDN'T do that. Ryan farking LIED to him. All season he was told he was the #2 guy, and then when Butt Fumble forced Ryan's hand, he sent in McElroy and made clear to Tebow that, no, you've actually been #3 all along.

No. Lied. If he was the #3, farking tell him he's the #3. Don't string him along all year by telling him he's #2 and then tell him right at the moment #2 is needed that he actually wasn't. Ryan wasted the fans' time, and he wasted Tebow's time. And it tells Tebow he can never trust another word that comes out of his own coach's mouth. Would you trust a coach that pulled that shiat on you? Because I sure wouldn't.

Caveat emptor. As a Bronco fan in Denver I lived among the majority who rolled their eyes at the circus-side-show-freakhouse (re: publicity) Tebow worship created. Most fans knew (or noticed quickly) that Tebow was out of his league, but the minority, heavy-religious types wouldn't hear it and they shouted Tebow's praises from the mountains. In many cases, literally.

There were actually those who called Elway 'jealous' of Tebow and how he might upstage him in Bronco history. This was after Elway brought in Peyton Freaking MANNING.

You make Tebow sound like a precious and unique snowflake that needs to be protected from the evils of the world.

Rather than the God-given blessed QB with all of the leadership ability that being a favorite of ESPN commentators gets you.

I know this much, the market for backup QB is way down this year. The Seahawks got a 5th round pick peddling Flynn off to Oakland, which is crazy less than what they thought they'd get for him. Maybe the market being down for backup QB is partly to blame for the lack of a rush to acquire Tebow?

Maybe contributing to this is how every defensive coord/head coach has seen enough tape on Tebow to know that the only way he helps you is during busted plays where primary coverage has broken down, because he 1) Isn't an accurate enough or fast enough pocket passer, because 2) He has a very slow read and a very slow release for an NFL QB, and 3) because of his size, he always got by on his physical strength that 4) Only works on busted plays where the defense has no LB spying him from the start, see point (1).

He's Roethlesburger without the accuracy. For his type of QB to work you have to constantly have a mismatch at wideout who is a good 10 yards clear, AND, you have to have no defense that can both pass rush and guard the line of scrimmage against a QB thats going to run 2/3 of the time only.

I still think he might be able to be a decent Read-Option backup, but the slow release point and inaccurate throwing arm (by NFL standards) takes a huge toll. Its one thing to beat a tired defense in the 4th quarter, its another to completely suck so badly you never get to the 4th quarter in a close game.

Maybe NFL teams are just unconvinced. Maybe the LORD is testing his faith. Either way he's a mediocre QB and everyone not caught up in the hype saw it from the minute he left Florida.

2013-04-07 12:42:52 PM
Maybe Tebow can line up and face Te'O in the Jesus Bowl every year, that'd sell tickets. Skip Bayless can promote.

Well, then Ryan's a shiatty head coach, because one of your most important responsibilities as a coach is to get your players to trust you. If you're lying to them, they can't trust you. They're going to question whether you know what the hell you're doing, or whether you're lying to them some more on any given occasion. They're going to hesitate. And hesitation and distrust kills you on the field.

Even if he ain't playing, he's still in the clubhouse talking to the other players. Gripes about the coach can grow if left unchecked, and quickly.

After it became apparent that the Jets coaching staff had nothing but contempt for Tebow, the idea that he, as a gimmick foisted on the team by upper management, would hold any sway in the locker room is absurd.

You're thinking in terms of 'Tebow makes everyone hate Ryan instantly'. No. Think like 'Tebow gets in the head of some other back-of-the-depth-chart guy, that guy gets in the head of a third guy, third guy gets in the head of a fourth guy, and it telephone-games through the locker room until Tebow's fingerprints aren't visible anymore'.

That has never happened in the history of ever. The third string gimmick quarterback is never the locker room cancer.

Mark Sanchez said that Darrelle Revis said that Santonio Holmes told him that he heard Skip Bayless say that Tim Tebow thought Rex Ryan was a total douchebag, but he didn't say douchebag cause he's Christian or something, but I don't think I want to play for the Jets anymore.

And you're worried about the equivalent of cannon fodder. Those guys are lied to every day. They are constantly signed and then released. They bounce between teams and practice squads. No one gives a shiat what they think, good or bad. So a "back-of-the-depth-chart" guy gets "tainted" by Tebow. So what? At the end of the day if he doesn't run himself through a brick wall at the orders of his coach that guy is gone and no one gives a shiat what the reasons were. And that guy knows it, and his wallet knows it.

So we've established that a) Tebow doesn't have the clout in the locker room to affect anyone who actually matters b) Anyone he can affect is so low on the totem pole that if they let Tebow affect them they are out on their ass anyways. It's a self-correcting problem.

I don't see any downside to lying to Tebow...which is a debatable (and ultimately useless) assertion in the first place. Depth charts are not written in stone. They are not the 10 commandments from Moses. Today you may be #2, tomorrow you could be cut. Welcome to the NFL Tim.
