Man On Pink Corner: In other news, wow, the Fark user base has sure gone to shiat lately.
That's the honest truth, it is. Then again, there have always been more dicks, assholes, and farkwits than honorable folks.

Want to go with some sort of upvote-downvote based approval. Then anything that is honest but not respected with become null.

Freedom of opinion (if you don't want to be downvoted into oblivion) means putting up with trolls who like attention. As much as I don't blocking users to create your own realities, done right it does work.

prjindigo: the cause of the fire is simple

jackoffs trying to keep everything they can original and not even having a CLUE how much a two-cell integrated extinguisher is worth in insurance discounts

Nice Halon and CO2+bicarb would have nipped that in the bud and a couple gunshots to the head would have gotten the fire truck through long before there was permanent body damage...

The irony is that Lambo or their original supplier probably would have been more than happy to sell him new fuel lines that are the exact same as the factory original from 40 years ago.

Fiat enthusiasts are still buying new production cotton jacketed fuel lines for some hair-brained reason, don't see why lambo enthusiasts can't.

squibbits: Not as important as Abraham Lincoln's Model T... so no big deal.

This seems to be the new troll on Fark, the "sense of perspective" troll. Yesterday there was a thread about EA being the worst company in America on Consumerist and suddenly we had the "crisis of conscience" people talking about how Monsanto/Bank of America/Evil company du jour was way worse. This thread is more of the same. This car, rare and beautiful though it was, isn't nearly as significant or important as one of the top-5 most produced cars of all time because it's a rich person's toy. We just have no perspective and need to admit that this car was just rubbish. We should all be driving Model Ts because they were affordable and common and therefore were the ne plus ultra of automobiles.

Harley engines still use a single hub connection for their V-twin.  It's essentially two cylinders of a radial aircraft engine, which explains why they are so farking loud and have that loping idle sound.

Why should anyone be upset?  It's just a stupid Italian tractor.

This was truly a loss. Whether a rich owner or not, I don't care. Anybody who loves and appreciates cars will feel the same. The only thing worse would be if this were a 1983 Corvette.

Notabunny: Ever since I was a boy, I've thought of the Miura as one of the most beautiful machines built. Right up there with the Ferrari Dino.

A friend of mine had a Dino. It was horrible. Cramped, uncomfortable and every piece of gravel on the road jolted your spine. Unusable for anything more than occasional very short trips and that, in my book, makes it a bad design.

2013-04-07 07:47:31 AM
Yellow cars are ugly. Still sort of sucked to see it burn. At least no one got hurt? As far as I can tell anyway.

threadjackistan: Man On Pink Corner: threadjackistan: More influential, because this car mechanized America, right? This Lamborghini was the first car that the average person could afford to buy? I'm sorry, how can a Lamborghini ever be influential as far as anyone is concerned. It's a tiny little niche thing. It will never influence the world. Lamborghini isnt Saab, Saab influences the with their fighter aircraft and light attack munition manufacturing. Saab doesnt even make cars anymore.

I need to get rid of this Purina Troll Chow before it expires, so here goes: nothing about the Model T has any influence on anything built today.  Even in its day there was nothing very special or interesting about the Model T except for the production advances that made it cheap enough to sell in large quantities.

The Miura's mid-engine design was rare and unconventional in a street car at the time.  It influenced the design of numerous sports cars from the Dino and at least a half-dozen later Ferrari models to the Bertone X1/9 and its spiritual successor, the Toyota MR-2.  You can still see some of its design cues in the current Porsche Boxster and Subaru BR-Z.  It was more than just a pissing contest between Ferruchio Lamborghini and Enzo Ferrari -- it was and still is regarded as one of the most beautiful automobiles ever produced.

This particular one deserved a better owner and/or mechanic, safe to say.

I didn't watch the video, you're probably right about the owner, But in your influences you just brought up more toys for rich people.

Most people cant afford a Toyota, not even a used one.

Most people can't afford a computer either, so that puts you and me as a 1%er as well. Your problems are rich peoples problems just as this car is a rich persons problems.

Having owned/driven Italian cars of that era, while not an expert, I'll say, with  the possible exception of the the Maserati Ghibli, the Miura was the sexiest and most fun to drive of that era.
My tastes were (and are) more biased towards the more muscular Ferrari 275 GTB4 but, the Miura is one of my all time favorites.
As said above, a lot of new ideas sprang from that car.

Well, for one, it isn't easily replaceable.

Please explain to me how it isnt easly replaceable. Did it get exceptional gas mileage? Did it have a unique cargo capacity? It what sense is this automobile difficult to replace? Perhapse if had a specialized medical suite in the trunk I might be able to understand.

But I suspect that this was just a rare pokemon car for the super rich. And that it is about as difficult to replace as my old Desert Storm trading cards? What irreplaceable economic function does it provide? Or am I right? Is this just a poor little super rich man lost his toy?

Damn. You are one gotten to, angry guy.

It was a beautiful car, that hasn't been made since the 70's. Why is the owner a complete asshole?

Yeah, but history matters.  These went for over $2 million in the past few years:

and they were the successor to the original Dodge Charger Daytona, which capped out at less than $500,000:

Personally, I think the Dodge should be worth more, but the Plymouth cars had more famous racers driving them, so the price went up.

Well, if someone stole the Mona Lisa, lets just throw up a polaroid of a chick with duck lips... It's just a picture of a woman.

Yes, you can easily replicate the performance of that car, but only because people kept pushing the edge, like Lamborghini did when it made the Muira. Can my iPod outperform the Apollo Guidance Computer? Yes. Does that make the Apollo Guidance Computer  any less spectacular? No.

If you don't care, don't care. But when you act petulantly because other people value something that you don't, and go out of your way to flaunt your ignorance and lack of perceptiveness as if it is something to be proud of, that looks less like apathy and more like childishness.
