I heard they had to fire the wrangler because he kept falling asleep on the job every time he did a head count.

Paris City Hall, meanwhile, has big ambitions for its sheep. "I can imagine this very easily in London and New York ... even Tokyo," said Fabienne Giboudeaux, Paris City Hall's director of Green Spaces. "And why not have them at the Eiffel Tower?"

They act like they're so progressive.  Los Angeles has been doing this with goats for ages for brush abatement.

We've been doing the same thing here in San Francisco. There's even a local company that rents out goats for weed control.

You can't, like, rent a goat, man.

New York City did this in Central Park way back before lawnmowers were invented.  The building where Tavern on the Green used to be was originally built as a combination barn for the sheep and residence for the park's shepherd.

what a cool idea, I'd like to see more cities do this.

I know a guy that tried this on his farm.  The sheep started chewing belts and tires on his agricultural equipment.  Those things will eat anything.

We need to find a creature that will eat that damned fast-growing ivy taking over the eastern US.

You wouldn't think it was such a neat idea if you had to be downwind of the smelly things.

And if anybody is curious besides me (hah!), the sheep employed by Paris are Ouessant, aka, Breton Dwarf Sheep. They're not necessarily lambs. They're just really, really small. Probably quite thrifty as well as being freaking adorable.

/Good call.
//No, seriously.

Since the number of Americans who venture out of their air-conditioned homes and sealed cars is so small, this wouldn't be a factor.

Sheep really don't smell bad. Even their manure is comparatively mild. There's no way a small flock like that would overpower the ambient stench of an urban area. I'm not even sure goats could, and they're much more potent than sheep.

Dam, ewe stole my line.

/Never knows how many sheep are in the family flock.

This has been done for a long time. Especially for areas where it's impractical to mow because of the ground contours or obstacles.

Old-timers will frequently say that a very close cut and well groomed lawn 'looks sheeped.'
