The Stealth Hippopotamus: GIVE GIVE GIVE WANT WANT WANT NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWW!!

I am so glad to find I am not the only incredibly impatient one.  Seriously, longest day of the week is Saturday because it's all full of waiting.

/Is this how time normally passes? Really slowly, in the right order.

Fortunately, I've been putting in so many screwy hours at work, it's passed fairly quickly. Of course, I Still have to wait until tomorrow to actually watch it. Stupid job working with the razzum frazzum...

I'll be watching "Closing Time" at 10pm central on the local PBS station. Guess cutting the cord a couple of years ago got me a tad behind.

So was there a mix up in scripts between this episode and a porno or did the Doctor actually just say "Take it.  Take it all baby!"

*NO SPOILERS BRITISH FEED REVIEW *

For part of the episode it looked like that they'd gone back to the classic series' pacing -- cool. And then they realized that there were only 15 minutes left and they had to wrap things up quickly New Who style. groan. Bring back more 2-parters.

Also -- The Doctor is officially the creepiest stalker in history.

Still, better than last week.

SPOILERS

Better than last week? No way. This story was all over the place and had horrible pacing. Clara doesn't question how she can understand other languages. They spent 3-4 minutes watching the little girl sing which was pointless. Then spent another 7-10 minutes on the ending which was just more singing and the Doctor whining about his life. Personally I like when the Doctor gets to show off how much he knows and how much he has been through but why do it without having Clara be there?! He's basically just talking to himself, it would have made much more sense and been more poignant if Clara got that insight.

Then the timey whimey souls and memories are all powerful potential energy conclusion was meh. It's nice to get some background on Clara though. But this episode could have been stronger if the pacing was better and there was a clearer goal for the story.

Good episode.  I thought it was pretty fun.  Even better, the preview for next week looks to have Davos Seaworth in command of a nuclear sub.

Someone said this before, but the Doctor is sure turning out to be the creepy stalker type.

/I'd stalk that ass like Sting on Adderall

This week beat last week on the how often am I checking the clock to see how long we've got left test.

Also, an "Old God" that people sing a never-ending lullaby to keep asleep is more compelling than OMG I'm trapped in THE INTERNET silliness.

Disappointed that the Egyptian-sounding "The Rings of Akhaten" had nothing to do with the classic Tom Baker Pyramids of Mars episode.

Odds that the Old God is a manifestation of the Great Intelligence?

The best thing about those kind of outfits is you can eat messy food and wipe them off with damp rag.

Anybody catch the reference to Omega & The Three Doctors in The Doctor's story?

2013-04-06 09:10:33 PM
Was tonight's reference to the Doctor's grand-daughter the first for NuWho?  I seem to recall a few times him being asked if he had a family and giving a vague "Used to" type of answer, but I don't remember him ever actually giving specifics.

/Yes, I'm aware of Susan as I've seen some of the Hartnell episodes with Susan
//Just can't recall specifics ever being mentioned in NuWho

ActionJoe: Clara doesn't question how she can understand other languages.

She couldn't. The Doctor had to tell her what was being said. The TARDIS doesn't like her.

Angry Drunk Bureaucrat: Anybody catch the reference to Omega & The Three Doctors in The Doctor's story?

I did. We've got Susan references, Omega references, a vague Sutekh analog (second time in the new series), the return of the Great Intelligence, UNIT, the Brig's daughter. Next week we get the Ice Warriors. They're firing up the nostalgia engines and opening the throttle.

She could, just not Doreen. Unless everyone else there was speaking English.

Not a bad episode. I don't think they've quite figured out the character of Clara yet; the first two times she was compelling and interesting. Last week she wasn't quite so interesting, and this week... well, she's far better looking than Rose Tyler and Donna Noble. But not as compelling as either of them. Interesting, sure - but for what she is, not who she is.

Dunno, but not as impressed with this new season as I hoped. But there's quite a bit of time left - plenty of time to pick up the pace.

She's impossible after all. I wouldn't think the TARDIS would be very fond of impossible people. Also, I guess God-Parasites wouldn't either.

Yeah, I thought that was pretty cool.  It looks like they're really going to be going all-out with callbacks to Classic Who this season as buildup to the big anniversary.  I like that.

2013-04-06 09:26:50 PM
It was kinda like the space whale episode from early in the Amy Pond show, I felt.

When the Sun disappeared, did the seven worlds just go whizzing off into space? Nice job, Clara.

Haven't watched it yet, but I'm worn out with these silly names like "Gangers" and "Spoonheads." It's like, "Oh, we can't call them doppelgängers, because that'd be logical, I know! Lets get all buzzword on them and call them Gangers." I rage and then I realize its a PG show for kids and then go, "Whatever."

/Matt Smith, while interesting, has been showing himself out the door since the middle of last season.

In re: to the gangers, I always assumed that was because of linguistical lazyness or slang.  That is, because they were "common" at least to the workers, having to say "doppleganger" a dozen times a day is annoying; and was shortened to just "ganger", much the same way we simply say "pc" or "computer" instead of "Personal Computer."

I enjoyed it.  I thought of 'The Mind Robber' when mentioning a universe where the physics were controlled by a mad man.  I also caught to minor references to the audio plays.  The being that was kept dormant by song was also mentioned in the second Doctor Who: Unbound audio play "Sympathy of the Devil", and the Doctor doing the long speech to a god about what he's seen and done was in the Eighth Doctor audio play "Phobos".

And shortening "doppelgangers" to "gangers" after they've become so incredibly commonplace isn't logical?

For a universe with physics controlled by a mad man, I was thinking of "The Doctor's Wife."

That doesn't even make sense, you can't make up a new term and call it buzzword, a buzzword needs precedence.

Alot of the episode reminded me of the Marketplace scene in Hellboy 2. Was really cool, and I'd love to see a place like that again in the series.

NeoCortex42: Good episode.  I thought it was pretty fun.  Even better, the preview for next week looks to have Davos Seaworth in command of a nuclear sub.

Heh, caught that too. I was like. "Is that...Davos?" and looked it up to be sure and yup. That dude is going to be typecasted as grizzled sea captains for quite some time now.

I dunno. I liked Donna. Rose got old quick, but was pretty good for my first Doctor Who exposure, But my first episode that got me hooked was Midnight. I caught it on tv one night after all of Fark was talking about how great Doctor Who was, so we watched it and I was hooked. Watched them all back to back until I got caught up. Still haven't watched the old ones though. It seems like maybe I should.
