House did it. I forget which season/episode, but I remember that they used the technology and the patient was thinking of baseball or something. I am sure someone will know which episode because I am too lazy to look.

I love how they're claiming to read dreams by being able to say the person is seeing a structure or a person. Seriously? I can talk to any person who has been dreaming and say "I read your dreams and you saw a structure and a vehicle" and I bet 60% of them would say "um ... Sure!"

My dreams tend to be very abstract. If I could have a visual representation of some aspect of my dreams, I would enjoy it. Because nightmarish Lovecraftian tchotchkes will be hip in the future.

From the article it sounds like they're specifically referring to dreams during hypnagogia. I have narcolepsy so I have pretty vivid images in that stage of sleep every night, and its really more like a constantly morphing slideshow of an object shifting, or related objects shifting. Sometimes I'll see faces that shift (old man to a girl to someone else, different angles, etc) but it still stays faces, or cartoon looking animals, etc. The images are simple enough that 60% accuracy sounds pretty farking amazing. It's nothing like actual REM dreams, although I think it slips into REM for me because I'm narcoleptic.

I used to fall asleep at the dentist when they had my mouth pried open with with that metal thing that had rubber stretched across? And they were digging and drilling and whatever else. Only had stuff to numb the area they were working on, too. Fell asleep all the time there.

I'd love to see my wife's brain scans.  She talks constantly in her sleep (and will talk back to you if you talk to her), and she has some pretty bizzare things to say (like something that turns people into babies if they look at a baby).

Article: Scientists can correlate dream brainwaves corresponding several generic phenotypes with waking brainwaves corresponding with conscious brainwaves of the same generic phenotype with SLIGHTLY more than coin-flip accuracy.

Once this technology is perfected law enforcement agencies will abuse the hell of it and roughshod peoples rights. And of course "If you have nothing to hide then you have nothing to be afraid of".
