Was kinda wondering what Cibo Matto was doing on that bill until a little digging turned up the fact that Sean Lennon is now a member.

In 1986 I took a three month road trip around the west with my Swiss girlfriend so she could see the United States. I had a friend at UC Santa Cruz so we stopped there.  I saw a flyer for Love and Rockets, whose first record I had liked, and that they were opening for Siouxie & the Banshees. I didn't know that much about S&TB but I knew they had an excellent reputation so we went.

L&R was boring as shiat. Total shoegazers. Technically fine, but oh my god so boring.

Then Siouxsie came on. Smoke machine, lights, she took that boring room and turned it into the most amazing place on the planet. Sexy, funny, rocked the living shiat out of it.

I've loved her ever since. And this was before she released what I think is one of the most interesting pop songs of all time:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6I3S8lPM6qM . She's never looked sexier.

I've been trying to turn the young women in my life on to Siouxsie. My nieces think she's weird.

Hmm, you have a point. The 'heroin goth' archetype started dying off somewhere around 2000, and all that seems to be left now are their younger, overweight cousins and siblings trying to ape their style.

This is one of those people that I've heard the cool indie rock fans talk about but I've never actually heard any of their music. It's one of those bands/groups that I've wanted to check out but it's far down the list at this point (at least considering how I get into bands, which involves getting into their actual albums and body of work). It's like how I got into shows like Breaking Bad and the Wire after I heard all the hype and they were into their 3rd new release (album/season).

Though this chick and her OG band (the Banshees, just saying that in case some coont tries to call me out on my lack of new wave knowledge, which I admit is limited because I hate the 80s rock era) is basically in classic rock territory, so I'd be behind by more than just 3 albums.

She's not gone.  She's on Sirius/XM First Wave channel.

EVERY.  OTHER.  SONG!!!

(and every other song is "How Soon is Now" by the Smiths)

Not since they broke up. The reunion is apparently happening without Sean (even though he's still involved through his mother's band). They were (are?) an odd group - lots of awkward, barely listenable songs but there's enough stuff like King of Silence (IMO, their best song), Flowers and Moonchild that made the "hey we're quirky. Pay attention to us" stuff tolerable.

I like Sean Lennon and his music, but the guy seems lazy as shiat.  Consider this, his only two solo albums came out in 1998 and 2006.  In that span of years you can fit the entire existence of the Beatles.  Or the entire solo career of John Lennon.  Being born into money must make you soft.

Don't you look like Siouxsie Sioux
How long did it take to get that way
What a terrible waste of energy

well motherfarking done, as I just put that on the Ipod and am learning it on guitar.

"Shadowtime" on that same album is also outstanding.

Siouxsie is farking hot as shiat.  I don't care how old she is, I'd still ragdoll it.

She's pushing 60, so I'd say she looks pretty good. I do think at some point you get too old for the proto-goth makeup and hair dye, but she's the one who originated it. What Billy Joe Armstrongs excuse is I have no idea, and Jack White may cross that line at some point as well.

Robert Smith has a good gig; don't wear the makeup and hairspray, go to the shops without anyone noticing him much, and he's just another middleaged Englishman in a sweater.

I always loved Peak-A-Boo and dat accordion.
"The song's peculiar sound is due to its experimental recording which is based on a sample. The song was built on a loop in reverse of a brass part with drums that the Banshees previously arranged a year before in 1987 for a cover of John Cale's "Gun". The band selected different parts of that tape when played backwards, editing them and re-recorded upon it, adding a different melody plus accordion, a one-note bass and a discordant guitar. Budgie also added another beat. Once the instrumental parts were finished, Sioux sang her lyrics over it. The lyric track was further manipulated by Siouxsie's using a different microphone for each line of the song."

Five years? So thaaats how long it takes her to look that way.

I know she's benefitting from a lot of makeup/generous photography...

I'd still totally hit that if I had the chance.

Had tickets to see them around the same time but they cancelled right before show. Sad that I missed The Wonder Stuff opening (well, I guess headlining, as it turned out) because we went for a beer run.
