Yet in a few years it will end up as something you can lease out for cruisers.  Well we can't but other insanely wealthy people can.  I never got the point of that myself, if I had a super boat I'd live on the damn thing and be insanely picky as to who came on board.

I can only imagine the expenses involved in running this.  I have a 50 foot sailboat that when I purchased it I thought I'd recondition it and live out my retirement on it stooging around the Great Lakes.  That sucker eats money like no tomorrow even when tied to the dock and not used.

Based just on adjusting the Bismarck's price tag from 1941 dollars to 2012 dollars, it would set you back 740 million.  The beast in this article was 613 million dollars.  Not the cost of the Bismarck today would also adjust based on the fact that some things would be custom one off orders since no one regularly makes BBs anymore, but on the other hand you could likely modernize machinery and remove a lot of it.

I eagerly await the first crazy billionaire to order such a ship.

  Keeping details as vague as possible, a maintenance person my employer used spent a few years working on one of these. He told me the standing crew was over 50 and the owner was rarely on board. A high ranking government official once in a while. The crew were once instructed to take it to a southern island and have a nice time. I recall the figure was around $2000/mile to operate, but that's hazy. A completely different world.

Impractical as all get out. Where are you going to park that thing? I would imagine there are very few  private docks or harbor that can accomodate that monster.
If I am that rich I would rather just fly to my destination on my own helicopter and then rent out the entire floor in a hotel for privacy.

You don't park a ship, you dock it.  And most with ships like this never dock them anyway, they moor them and then use their smaller vessels to go ashore.  Docking a vessel this size is difficult and besides, at a dock, there is more of a security risk than moored.

54's are deck launch and airdrop only - maybe you would like a surplus 48 ADCAP or DM2A3 ?  Better yet the Swedes are sluts and will sell a few of their 62's...
