Seriously, I did that in my first encounter with a dishwasher, at age 22.  The gf I'd just moved in with was bemused.

/then the slut started sleeping with her boss, so I did it again and left.

I did the same thing about 10 years younger.  My step mom was not initially amused or bemused.  She laughed about it a couple weeks later.

It was actually my wife who did it. It took me about 30 minutes to get all the suds rinsed out of the dishwasher.

Then she did it again a few months later.

I think she was trying to prove a point...That I should be the one doing the dishes.

LOL.  At least I have an excuse--I was 12 or 13, and it was the first time I ran the dish washer on my own.  Looked under the sink, saw a bottle of dish washing soap, didn't give it a second thought.

And rather than farking up the machine, I like to think of it as getting the dishes and the floor clean at the same time.

I used to use the dishwasher exclusively for sanitizing the cat box. You didn't rent the apartment after I moved out, did you?

Once, I did what you suggested, only with the washing machine itself. Oh lawd how hilarious was that. There was so many suds that when the washer went into the spin cycle it started to slide across the floor because the machine was sitting on a sheen of popped bubbles that had been erupting from every nook and cranny the machine had. Man being 18 was  fun.

First you wash 'em in the dishwasher, then you sterilize 'em in a bowl of 100 proof bourbon. Which you drink afterward: waste is sinful.

At one of my previous jobs we'd use a dishwasher to clean keyboards. Worked quite well.

I guess they all missed that class at med school called "how diseases are transmitted."

vygramul: A friend of mine just bought a $1000 Bosch dishwasher that has a "sterilize" setting to up the temp to kill bacteria. Obviously, what qualifies as "dishwasher safe" changes at that point.

Most things that are labeled dishwasher safe are also microwave safe, so they should be able to withstand heat of at least as high as boiling water, most sterilization cycles only run at about 200degrees Fahrenheit, a bit under boiling.
