Like the birther BS, ie no one accuses Obama of being a Kenyan usurper if he's white, he should apologize in the same vein that it never would be been said to a male.

I however, wholeheartedly don't care.

Today I was reading about how it was "sexist" to talk about a woman's physical appearance. This was a big pile of even less than nothing.

not really, no. He wasn't. Harris may have been a bit embarrassed by it but he in no way diminished her accomplishments or professional career with his remark.

The rampant sexism and machismo in the Obama machine was evident even back on the campaign trail in 2008 and now with Hillary out of the White House he feels free to let it run rampant.  Maybe now America will wake up and see the disgusting man behind the mask that is B Hussein Obama.

ORLY?

"Introducing HUD secretary Shaun Donovan last February, Obama declared, 'There he is, in the front here. The good-looking guy'

"At a speech last March, Obama pointed out his secretary of the Interior, Ken Salazar, by calling him 'a good-looking guy.'

"A couple of months ago, Obama gave a shout-out to the 'outstanding Secretary of the Navy,' Ray Mabus. 'There he is right there - the good-looking guy over at the end.'"

That's why I only compliment women on their shoes. That way, they think I am gay, and see me as a challenge.

because insulting someone is rude. Complimenting them is not rude. Easy.

skullkrusher: I meant relax with regards to the offense you're taking about this comment.

And I'm saying that my opinion on this issue is not an issue of relaxation of tension. When it comes to sexual politics, the "relax" reaction by people is often used as a way to imply that people who have differing views are somehow just being prudes or sticks-in-the-mud as opposed to having actual, normal opinions, just like we would on any other issue. When you say you don't like taxes, I don't tell you to "relax".

spiderpaz: It's pretty easy to tell when you've said or done something offensive for most people:

Honestly, that's spot on. That's one of the reasons I found this distasteful by Obama - it reminded me of Bush. Jonathan Bernstein put it best today:

In fact, it reminds me of George W. Bush's habit of bestowing nicknames on everyone around him, a practice that many people - correctly, in my view - found to be inappropriate and demeaning. The problem isn't so much that he gave nicknames; it's that no one really can argue with the President of the United States of America when he gives them a nickname they find demeaning. And because it's hard to argue with the president when he uses language that may or may not be demeaning, it's important for the president to be especially careful to avoid it.

That's basically true for anyone in any position of authority, but it's magnified in the case of the president.

And then its especially true because, like it or not, the president is a role model for others in positions of authority.

politically? Probably not. He felt the need to apologize after all. In general f-ed-upedness? This doesn't even register.

I love taxes. I've spent the better part of a week doing them. Labor of love.

In this instance I believe you ARE being a stick in the mud. That's the point. This wasn't at a press conference where he was introducing her to a new cabinet post. It was at a fundraiser and she's his bud.

Not politically, just interpersonally. This would have been inappropriate at an office event just the same.

Indeed. It was a bit crass. He shouldn't have said it and his apology was not unreasonable. And the large majority of the people trying to turn it into THE WORST THING SINCE MUSTARD ARUGULA IPODS are mostly people who should... probably not be calling a ton of attention to sexism because it'll put them in an awkward position the next time they support state-sponsored ultrasound rape.

We're simply asking, is it sexist to compliment a woman on her appearance?

Obama knew it was time to apologize when Fox & Friends came out in support of his comments.

Sort of like how Rutgers knew it was time to fire Mike Rice when Sean Hannity defended him.

Republican talking head trying to make what is, at worst, a slightly crass comment into a thing? Well, I guess they are the same people who constantly engage in dishonest language manipulation: "Freedom fries", "homicide bombs", "illegals"...
