TheShavingofOccam123: meat0918: Badgers: Evil Mackerel: So don't buy processed food.

Processed food like spinach, lettuce and beansprouts?

Spinach off market for potential E. coli
E. coli source likely lettuce at KFC/Taco Bell
German bean sprouts source of E. coli outbreak

/Something is going to kill you, sooner or later

Mass produced food might be the key here, but then you get the raw milk freaks touting the health benefits of drinking it straight from the cow.

I know some people that compost their poop, call it "humanure" and use it to fertilize things, thankfully NOT their veggie gardens, but rather fruit trees and others where the food doesn't touch the fertilizer.

//I'm one to talk, I have both of Sandor Katz's fermentation books on loan from the library.
///I really despise Sally Fallon though.  Something about her advice to "Go ahead and eat cow brains, Mad Cow disease is overblown" just sticks in my craw.
//rant done through the power of slashies////

I ferment cabbage and other veggies in brine in smaller canning jars. I quit doing quart jars because my air locks sometimes couldn't handle the pressure. Somethings just don't scale up well.

What kind of airlocks do you use? I ferment vegetables in brine as well and just use the regular Mason jars. I used a dremel to cut holes in the lids

I ferment vegetables in brine as well but only use the standard size Mason jars:
