With luck we'll get two "slapstick dismemberment" movies a la "Armageddon" and "Deep Impact".

I had been reading some things about the movie a while back that lead me to stories about the original case and thought pretty much the same thing. "Wow, they're going to make a comedy out of that? What the f*ck is wrong with these people?"

So ... wait a dude was kidnapped, tortured, run over by a car twice and forced to give over millions of dollars and the police did nothing?

That is some fine police work there Lou.

Peter Collins (writer of the original article) was my professor in college.  Awesome dude, but comically inept at teaching.

This just might be this Spring's feel good movie!  Zombie Roger Ebert will give it two thumbs up.

I didn't look into it beyond the original article, but it seems to imply that it was thought he hired the detectives to get his money back, money he'd gained illegally. I'd normally guess either he didn't really report it (because of his criminal activities) or he did, but either left a lot out (because of said activities) or because of the criminal elements there wasn't thought to be a case.

But then I see the Florida tag and just assume it was inept police work because...Florida.

Thanks for the link. That is fascinating (no snark). Makes me a bit less-inclined to laugh at the trailer...

I'm guessing the real case was probably more like "Rise of the Footsoldier" and less like "Dumb & Dumber".

I felt pretty pissed when 30 min. Or less came out. My sweetie delivers pizza for a living.

Well the movie 30 min or less was based on the pizza guy getting a bomb strapped to him. The ending for the real guy didnt turn out so well.

actually it was just incompetance. They decided he must be making it all up because the story was too ridiculous (also he was foreign, so there may have been some bias) and they just ignored him.

Yeah that's the one I was thinking of. This is not the first such tasteless film.

Everything that comes out of Hollywood these days sucks ass, with a very few exceptions. The golden age of film is dead and buried.

My same reaction after reading the article a few months ago, although I don't think I laughed at the trailer anyways.

[cdn0.sbnation.com image 355x500]

Imaginary movies like Big Lebowski and Very Bad Things are fiction.  They are based on nothing.  Real people did not die to develop their stories.  This movie uses the real names of the real people who really died or did the killing.

Do you see the difference?

Or can we do a 9-11 movie in the vein of Airplane! ?  That would be hilarious no? I mean plane crash movies are plane crash movies, no?

Well, James Cameron turned the tragedy of the Titanic into a love story. And money was made off of all the victims of the Zodiac Killer. So I'm not sure what this lady really expects from Hollywood.

That guy would probably get more sympathy if he hadn't been in on it (even though he didn't know the bomb would be real, and it does look like his partners turned on him and forced him past that point)

Just going with the "comedy dismemberment" angle. No need to get all huffy.

Not every detail of an otherwise good story fits into what Hollywood is willing to invest millions of dollars into.

I think we've hit the high-budget Hollywood repeat mark this year with the White House.

/White House Down looks...intriguing. The same way one would be intrigued by a race to a crossing between a car and a speeding freight train
//One day, someone's gonna get around to adapting the Mitch Rapp series of books...and they'll be farked when they have to deal with Transfer of Power

Surely being depicted in a film directed by that worthless piece of shiat Michael Bay is punishment enough.

Lemme guess, same guys making this that made that pizza deliverman murder romp a few years ago? Detestable.
