(Some Guy)   Don't look now, but RAND PAUL is starting to do the exact same things Obama did three years before his first presidential bid   (egbertowillies.com) divider line 14

Sybarite: I have yet to see Rand Paul's name across a big pair of boobs.

That's because the only context in which you'll see the words "Rand Paul" and "a pair of boobs" is in articles talking about him, and his father.

Make one of the best and most memorable speeches of my lifetime at his party's convention, propelling him to star status?

Does America REALLY deserve to have an Ayn Rand fanatic for a President, lighting up his Aqua-Buddah bong in the Oval Office, snickering while looking out the window as his goons are out there neck-stomping on his opponents?

He's like every adorable 'libertarian-theory-over-practice' guy I know wrapped into one.

I hope he comes back to the "segregation would have ended because of the free-market economics of it" idea.  It's brilliant precisely because it conflicts strongly with the "You know, Rand, segregation actually happened, lasted for a century, and never made 'economic sense' in the first place" line of reasoning.  But, between the two streams of thought, you *know* the libertarian-theorist is always going to take the theoretically pure path over the "this actually happened" path.  This behavior is so predictable that leading such guys off the rails is like shooting fish in a barrel.  Still kinda fun, though.

tallguywithglasseson: GAT_00: He is however quite stupid enough to get Republicans to vote for him.

RAND PAUL would/will never make it past the primary.

He's got the state's rights/racists shored up.
He can probably get a lot of the social conservatives -- he supports a Constitutional amendment banning gay marriage, for example.
Fiscal conservatives - check.

National security / defense / hawks - not so much.

IMO that faction is still needed to win the primary. Don't think Paul can get them back at this point.

He won't make it past the primary for the same reason his dad couldn't - only 20-30% of the GOP likes him. Maybe RAND ticks that up a few points, because Fartbamadrones, but RAND has the same fundamental problem his dad does.

// but Rand doesn't have his dad's "I'm not a racist, I just sign my name to racist newsletters and fund their publication" problem
// ...yet?

This many years later, and the idiots still haven't the slightest clue as to why candidate Obama appealed so strongly to such a broad constituency. What's so obvious to the rest of us is utterly invisible to them.

He's a genuinely decent man, stating simple truths that resonate well with regular people, articulated in a compelling manner.

Rand Paul is a two-bit imitation, saying all the wrong things for entirely self-serving reasons, and fooling only people who desperately want to be fooled... or who can't tell the difference. No one will remember his name a few years from now.

StrikitRich: Rand Paul is only voting 'Present' in the Senate now?

That's honestly what I expected.

Serious Black: I definitely appreciate Rand Paul's views on the drug war and foreign policy, but I would never vote for him in a million years. Abolishing Social Security and Medicare are completely unacceptable to me.

yeah also:

Supports Amendment to prevent same sex marriage.

(Aug 2010) he is a farking barking lunatic

Wonder if he's gotten any advice from his daddy about how to collect millions of dollars in contributions but not seem to do anything at all with them.

The main difference is that Obama could get elected.  Rand is unelectable as president.
