Yes it is. It's PG-13 (the zombies don't bleed, and apparently neither do the humans), focuses on a single story (that I'm not even sure was in the book), has unbelievably fast zombies that move more like a tsunami than horde, and seems to throw out everything that made the book interesting.

The director also said, when asked if Max Brooks had any input, he said "I met Max a couple times when we just spoke about the book and his intentions and I think, ultimately, he just gave his blessings."

Delays may not spell immediate doom for a movie, but everything leading up to this movie does.

Hell look at video games. Bioshock Infinite was delayed for 3 years, and it's fantastic. Aliens: Colonial Marines was delayed almost 6 years and it's a complete turd.

And they were completely false. Hell the UK Advertising board forced Sega to put disclaimers on all trailers/ads stating "this does not reflect actual in-game graphics" because they misled so many people.

When the words "release date change" start to plague a movie, we immediately expect something rather disastrous.

I don't think that's necessarily the case, particularly when it's due to a studio going under. I mean Cabin in the Woods and the Red Dawn remake were both delayed by MGM's bankruptcy, and my expectations on the former were pretty much 180° from my expectations on the latter.

Bioshock Infinite is fantastic so far. I surely thought the delay was going to kill it, but I've found that if you can't fix it in 3 years, throw it out. I call this "The Law of Chinese Democracy".

If they had just called it something other than "World War Z" it might have been a fine summer diversion, but the title comes with certain expectations that were never going to be met outside of a miniseries format.

I'm looking forward to Ender's Game, but I refuse to spend a penny that goes towards Orson Scott Card. Looks like I'll be sneaking into a movie for the first time since I was 15.

If you have the time, and like documentaries, 'Lost in La Mancha' is an awesome film. It's about Terry Gilliam's attempt to get 'The Man Who Killed Don Quixote' off the ground, but is met with set back after set back.

My thoughts, exactly.

I'm not someone who believes that adaptations have to slavishly follow the original, but this seems to be a case where they really liked the title and didn't give two craps about the story.

I just watched that last week. Talk about a cursed production. According to Wiki, he's since bought the rights to the film back from the insurance company and still plans on making it. After seeing some of the early stages of the film in the documentary, I really want to see this film completed. Terry Gilliam seems like the perfect match for a Don Quixote film.

I actually got to meet Orson Scott Card when I was 12 years old. He was the guest author at Lenoir Rhyne University. I really do believe that the man is insane, and not in a good way. Homophobic doesn't begin to describe him. He literally believes that gays are trying to kill him.

Bioshock Infinite is fantastic so far. I surely thought the delay was going to kill it, but I've found that if you can't fix it in 3 years, throw it out. I call this "The Law of Chinese Democracy".

The original half life was practically done before gabe decided to start from scratch. Payed off

I thought that the first few Alvin Maker books were pretty good. It wasn't until he got to Heartfire (where we learn that Puritanism was good and that separation of church and state is bad) that that series went wholly off the rails. I also thought that the Homecoming books had potential, at first... but became unreadable the more they hewed to being a retelling of Mormon history (and then got utterly pointless and weird once they reached Earth).

I also liked a lot of his short stories. I'm not embarrassed to admit that I was always happy to see his name on the cover of Asimovs.

It does, however, seem that the more politically active he's become, the worse his writing has become, especially when it's crept into his writing. I'm not sure what brought it about (it started before 9/11, so he doesn't get that excuse), but it's a shame that it happened.

There is a far out there theory that he did not personally write Ender's Game. It is almost certainly bullshiat, but it still interesting to read in light of how much of an asshole he has shown himself to be in recent times. It shows him being just as much of a dick back in the 80s. Of course if somebody gets accused of writing an apologia for Hitler, anybody is probably going to be pretty pissed.

I do not think it will even be a workable genre film. I probably could take myself out of the book universe and watch it as brain candy but with the reshoots and rewrites I expect it to be a cobbled piece of trash.

With people talking about video games I am amazed the the most famous lost in development hell game has not been mentioned. DNF

I played through when it finally came out, and its a damn shame because there is a polished gem in there amongst the sea of shiat that game creates. There were moments where I actually enjoyed myself, only to be crushed to smithereens as I'm forced into obvious path lines of idiotic platforming.

Whoever thought the idea of extended platform sequences during a FPS needs to get the Casino Royale chair treatment

This doesn't seem like a list for people who actually enjoy films. The Fountain should be here anyway... it is remarkable that it got made, and re-made, and still worked. I would like to see what the originally intended product would have looked like.

Now, if the author of the article would be so kinda s to point me to 7 movies that have been through endless re-writes and musical chairs of director/producer, and still ended up good, I might have hope for WWZ/Ender's Game. Or even 7 movies that diverge wildly from their books but find acceptance from the books fans (at best, Starship Troopers comes to mind, but even that is a big stretch)
