gotta say though, he's not wrong.   CSB:

Last week I was riding an elevator down out of a government office in DC when it opened on a middle floor to a very pretty woman talking to a fairly high official at the agency I was visiting.  Since I try not to be a dick , I held the door open for her while she finsihed her conversation.  Five minutes later she's still "just one more thing"-ing and I'm trying hard not to let my annoyance show.  Finally, she steps aboard and  gives me a quick "sorry", I shrug and say something inane about how it's important stuff we do, and all and a few minutes extra ain't gonna ruin anyone's day.  She then asks me my name, I give her my first name only thinking this is causal elevator conversation.  She introduces herself with her first and last name, which mean nothing to me, so I say only "nice to meet you" and do about my day.   Since her name was Kamala Harris, and I'm a lawyer who does consumer protection work, that is what we call in the Bidness " a huge whiff" on my part.   Oh Well.

Yeah, but how is her beef stroganoff?

Factually incorrect. Florida AG is hotter.

He said that the same day that Michelle referred to herself as a single mother. So who knows what is going on?

1) she is hot
2) Ms. O is already calling herself a single mom
3) me thinks the President is going to need his Secret Service protection

Bamz has pretty good taste. But he should know that it is generally safer to only praise the looks of married ladies.

Yeah, that isn't fair, but it seems to be true.

I love how Jezebel immediately jumped all over him for the last part, ignoring the part where he praised her professional and intellectual credentials first.

And they wonder why so few people take them seriously over there.

I love how Yahoo digs up a one-off that happened back in 2008, too.

Apparently they really are friends, and that fact make it seem completely inoffensive. But then, there's always the b*tch eating crackers thing.

True, but at the same time it's fairly clear that a male AG's looks would never be mentioned as part of why he is praiseworthy. Can't we just impose a simple rule for politicians "don't talk about about a lady's looks unless someone else brought it up first?" It just avoids the whole issue from the get go.

You always tell a woman how much you respect their intelligence and such before you tell them how hot they are.

Not true at all.  It's not unheard of to make a comment on a guy's looks as the "light-hearted afterthought" part of an introduction.

I will not accept a world where it's verboten to not mention that someone is dapper, or attractive, or handsome.

Obama's method of doing it, complementing and noting a person's professional or intellectual prowess before superficial things is exactly how it should be done.

Anyone threatened by their spouse saying someone else is attractive has a very shaky marriage to begin with.

At this point, the only person who Obama has to worry about in his comment about Kamala Harris is Michelle Obama.  She probably considers it to be a non-issue.

Yea, it's hard for me to get too riled up about this particular instance. Especially since it was at a fundraiser, more of an intimate/informal gathering than say a press conference.

It's not like that NYT obituary where they mentioned a woman's cooking, parenting, and spousal skills before saying, oh yea, she was an actual rocket scientist, too, that worked on propulsion systems for communications satellites.

Obama rarely makes public comments without thinking through the implications. Yesterday morning noone outside california had ever heard of this woman. Now she is part of the national conversation. She's going to start getting invited on talk shows and political analysis news segments. Bet she'll be on Oprah pretty soon, getting gushed over. This is how political careers are launched.

Wouldn't surprise me -  she's a Republican who ran on family values, isn't she?

Crazy eyes?

Yes. She's hot, especially for a woman pushing 50, but she has a very subtle look of something... "off"... about her. Is she an evangelical?
