The only thing really out of the ordinary was throwing the basketball's at their heads and almost knocking them down. The aggressive coaching is not uncommon to show a guy how to guard a player, attacking a player is not acceptable and that's what he did.

While the language is something you can find pretty much everywhere, and the "putting hands on" is fine for putting them into position, there's really no reason to be throwing basketballs at people that are doing other things, unless maybe they're also competing for the dodgeball team.

Yes. I think that this level is rare. Rice and Baby Rice apparently coached at a previous school together. There were FIVE player/coach physical altercations during their time there. Do you think player/coach fights happen all over the country in basketball programs? I doubt it.

The yelling isn't my style, but ya, I've had some coaches who really believed in it. (I'm of the mindset that by the time you need to yell, you've already failed)... as far as hitting people, kicking players in the knee (crazy high liability)... no, these are not standard or acceptable coaching techniques... if you drop a kid kicking him in the knee and end his career, guess who else has a career that's over? Bullying isn't leading, it isn't managing, and it sure as hell isn't coaching... you can demonstrate the aggression you want players to have just fine without being a dick.
