(New York Daily News)   How sleazy is New York politics? Enough that Democrats saw the 20-year rap sheet of one of their assembly candidates and said "fark it - we'll wait until he gets elected, then make him wear a wire"   (nydailynews.com) divider line 34

In New York there are crooked politicians who would indeed be deterred (somewhat) from being crooked because they suspect there's a colleague who's even more crooked.

Albany: the Mos Eisley of politics.

The state level democratic party in NYC is wildly corrupt.  But who are you going to vote for? A Republican?

Might as well.  NYC Republicans would be Democrats anywhere north of Yonkers.

1. Subby, it was the AG that made him wear the wire, not the "Democrats".
2. Old tactics are just that, old. This has been happening since we had wires to wear.

True, there's also the Brooklyn republican who got busted on a traffic violation and they found out he was a polygamist.

I'm thinking maybe 5-10 years from now, Hollywood is going to make a movie that's like the Departed or Donnie Brasco, except set in Albany, and with a guy like Castro infiltrating the corrupt underworld of New York politics.

ALEC. You forgot ALEC and the Koch brothers too. I can deal with stereotypical political sleaze. It's nothing new. But the shiat spewed out by ALEC, the tea tards and the Kochs is just too much.

Really? Erich Ulrich is ranked one of the states five most conservative politicians. Congressman Erich Grimm, the most Conservative congressman in the state.Oh and both large scale Tea Party groups in New York are from the city. I live here in NYC and our Republicans would fit in fine with Texas or Viriginia. It why they have only 4 of 51 city council seats, one congressman from The City, two State Senators and two assemblymen. If they weren't so conservative they would have a lot more seats down here

By 2008, Castro had already compiled a record of criminal arrests in two states and had lied in court about voter registration fraud inside his own Bronx apartment.

In 2003, Castro was arrested again in New York, this time for grand larceny. He was accused of pocketing $4,900 in unemployment checks while holding a job. He pled guilty to petty larceny, repaid the money and was slapped with three years probation.

Then in March 2008, Castro was arrested a third time - for driving in East Harlem with a revoked license and as a scofflaw who owed more than $3,000 in parking tickets.

By 2010, Castro owed more than $8,600 in tickets.

Asked about his continuing life as a scofflaw, Castro said: "$9,000, really? I know I have $600 in parking tickets."

I wouldn't expect less from any politician, anywhere.

We just got rid of one here in Westchester. There seems to be a small-to-medium size population of them in my area, the kind that put up tents with petition tables and signs that say "IMPEACH OBAMA NOW" with a picture of Obama with a Hitler-stache drawn on, and, for some reason I've never been able to determine, a squirrel.

Everyone in New York knows our State is Corrupt, its always just been we were better at  hiding it than New Jersey. I mean since 2007 11 state senators have been charged with various crimes while only nine lost a re-election. Here is just some of out rap sheets

From the NYP
*Sen. Pedro Espada's (D-Bronx) looted a government-funded health center he founded in The Bronx out of millions of dollars
*Hiram Monserrate's (D-Queens) convicted for assaulting his girlfriend.
*Shirley Huntley (D-Queens) was toppled from her Senate seat last fall after she pleaded guilty to embezzling $87,700 in public funds.
*Carl Kruger, (D-Brooklyn) traded his Senate seat for a jail cell after collecting about $1 million from businesses he helped in their dealings with the state.
*Sen. Kevin Parker (D-Brooklyn), who remains in office, was convicted on a misdemeanor charge for assaulting a Post photographer.
*Nicholas Spano (R-Yonkers) was sent to prison for evading $45,000 in federal taxes
Vincent Leibell (R-Rockland) was convicted on charges of taking kickbacks.
Former Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno (R-Rensallier) is facing a new trial after two convictions on federal corruption charges were tossed.

This on top of various Council members all democrats but one (there are so few GOPer's AKA 4/51 councilmen there aren't enough for many scandals) , the recent scandal with the Theodin one distrcit over from mine Dan Halloran, who is a great guy and had done a lot of good for his district and the locals. But we are pretty corrupt here

My state senate district, with a 5:1 Dem:GOP registration majority has elected the GOP State Senator TWICE because he has run against a guy with an active ethics investigation and another guy who was promoted as being prepared to handle Albany because of his associates degree from ITT. (not kidding)
And if he flips back to D or the Dems run another grade A idiot against him, he'll get elected again.

/He got his one vote from me for his one vote on my marriage. He has yet to earn the second.

I live in NYC and I lived in the area of the 2011 NY-9 special election, you know the one the one that NY Mag, NY Times and The Daily News kept bashing the democrat for blatantly lying about his opponent and fabricating claim, and then was caught spying on the Republican....Ahhhh Good Times

Nan Hayworth? She was classic Westchester moderate.

There hasn't been a conservative Republican elected within a hundred miles of NYC since Gerry Solomon, and he was more your basic napalm-eating grouchy old Marine than anything else. He would've made a way better speaker of the House than that smarmy fark Newt Gingrich, but that's the Stupid Party for you.

The idiots who bring us CPAC? More worshipers of the state and hardly conserve, no matter what they want to call themselves. William F. Buckley is spinning in his grave at what's become of the organization he created.
