70 acres, so basically it's ten minutes of Game of Thrones footage?

I_Am_Weasel: Theme park?

Between that acreage and RPI up on the hill, it might make Troy the geekiest/sleaziest place in the universe.

No longer the slave of ambition
I laugh at the world and its scorn,
As I think of my pleasant condition
Surrounded by acres of porn.
Surrounded by acres of po-o-ooo-rn,
Surrounded by acres of porn,
As I think of my happy condition
Surrounded by acres of porn!

Pull up a chair son and I'll tell you when you had to go to a dirty store in the bad part of town full of strange men and buy a plastic cartridge of magnetic tape which the carnie-like clerk put in a brown paper bag.

My wife went to school in Troy in the 80's and it was a pit.  I think that as long as the install decontamination showers at the exits to the city people would come

Nobody wants this in their neighborhood," said Councilman Ken Zalewski

I agree, we want schools and grocery stores, restaurants and churches in our neighborhoods.

Mayor Lou Rosamilia's administration had worked on developing the proposed ordinance that identified 70 acres in an industrial tract along the riverfront as the zone

Hey, now wait a second here. This is in an industrial zone? The kind of place nobody lives, there are no churches schools ro public parks? The kind of place nobody goes to unless they have business there? Fark you. This is the perfect place for it, and most cities have figured that out already. Take your religion inspired "morals" and impose them on your own family, but keep them out of law.

The shiat we put up with. The kids today will never understand the anxiety of downloading a 1mb 10 second clip over 56.6k AOL and pacing back and forth because we knew if we heard mom getting too close, we'd have to dump it and start the 15 minute download all over again.

The problem is they're lumping all kinds of adult businesses together. Maybe it isn't the greatest idea in the world to have the woman-friendly vibrator store next to the skeezy XXX bookstore with the jack-off booths in back or the gay video store next to the straight strip club.

Why? As long as the laws are being followed, this seems like the best way to set it up, give the prudish people as whole area to avoid, rather than take the chance of seeing an adult bookstore on a random corner.  A kind of sex theme park might actually work out... :-)

I went from a 2400 bps doing only BBS dialups to a v32 ("9600") to a 14.4 to a 56.6 modem but I never had phone lines that could handle more than the 33.6 bps setup and even then it dropped down to 28.8 more often than not anyway :(

That was bullshiat. It took 5 minutes just to download a farking 800x600 jpeg half the time. And you never knew what you were getting so you had to squint really hard at the little thumbnails and make sure you really wanted to download it so you didn't waste your time. And you didn't have browser tabs, so you just wound up with 20 open windows and the whole system slowed to a halt. And the pictures

Now it's all just middle-click, middle-click, middle-click and then close 25 tabs when you're done.

Spoiled bastards.

if they completey leveled troy (except dinosaur BBQ)  and replaced it with strip clubs, it would still be a 100% improvement over the current city.

Yeah, I remember 20 minutes for a large still image, then finding out if it was one you had already under a different name.  GIF, rather than JPG.. first JPG I had on my 286, it took 5 minutes to render it on my screen in 256 colors.

On the other hand, I had a weight bench near the basement computer, to have something to do while I waited.  I was in the best shape of my life.
