I recently had a DMCA takedown request on YouTube, It was for a <1 minute video clip of a free show from Morris Day and the Time at the MN state fair I took with my phone. To be allowed to view YouTube videos I had to go through a copyright boot camp and learn what is copyrighted work (Hint: everything you can see, hear, or touch).

Giant pain in the ass and just makes me wonder why anyone would post anything to YouTube now that you can be shut down because someone didn't like your video and issues a DMCA takedown request.

I wonder why anyone would post anything to YouTube now that it's turned into the worst streaming site on the Internet. Seriously, whether I use the HTML5 or the (ugh) Flash player, it blows monkey goats. We're at realplayer levels of (buffering...)

This carp was going on pre-DMCA. Paramount had the foolishness to send us a 'takedown notice' of some images we had on CompuServe, ca. 1995.

The notice was for a presser at the Smithsonian of Star Trek actors, taken by Smithsonian photographers; and some racers on Trek brand bicycles.

We told 'em to pound sand, and never heard from them again.

Then, when Playboy came along with a valid claim, we pulled them so fast the air crackled. That good-faith act netted us a contract to run their presence pre-Internet. Booyah.

This is Google playing funny farkers. They remove the links pirated content from their site and post them to "chilling effects".

Anyone who thinks that Google is going to treat their private information with any more respect than they've treated the rights of intellectual property is deluding themselves.

To be honest they are not listing the same information. The takedown notice was for the video and for the search for the link. That is gone. This is an index of takedown notices which does not infringe the original copyright.

It`s legally different and google own the copyright on the index.

Yep. The main thing that pisses me off is that it will often forget that it just downloaded the whole video so when I try to rewind or watch it again it has to redownload the video! WTF?! I saw a headline about game companies teaming up with youtube and, at first, I thought they were going to use it to stream the cutscenes. I was all,"How about no."

PROTIP: Jdownloader (or a similar tool).  Anything longer than about a minute and a half, I just download to an .mp4 file and watch in VLC.

Anyway, using Flash in Firefox at all is just begging for a browser freeze, but that's probably because I refuse to upgrade from Firefox 3.6.

So it looks like the higher ups finally listened to someone lower down on the ladder, and then went on another path.

I've been having better luck with Pale Moon browser (basically Firefox optimized for newer Windows computers). It doesn't seem to have the memory leaks that I used to get with Firefox after watching flash videos for a while.
