The next budget round, when the RCMP are crying how they need more money, I have some suggests for some possible cost savings.
I mean, seriously, just because nobody wanted to grab a mob, and the regular cleaning crew had gone home for the night, that is no reason to call in a biohazard cleaning company.  Whoever made that call should have their pay docked for the amount charged.  I wonder if the cleaning company had to leave that job early for an emergency call from a mother with a newborn diaper job.

Totally not worth it. If you're drunk enough to go to sleep now, you'd better just find somewhere to do it because it can take hours to get processed in to jail. By the time you crawl on top of your 1/2 inch foam mat you will have had plenty of time to sober up and realize what an awful idea you had.

Bwahahahaha. This was in Canada, where the police really don't like putting people in jail for minor offenses like drunken urination and drunk driving. 10 minute booking and have a sleep citizen, unless the officer calls a cab because one of the 5 civilians who watches inmates can't make it in, or not enough budget left for the 6 hour watch. Or hey come back when you are sober for your fingerprints to be taken and the picture is already in the criminal database from your gov ID or drivers license.
Yea,  Because the police don't like sitting on their ass and watching inmates in the local jail for hours on end. A random every  5 min to 20 min cruise by the cell to make sure he is not dead yet.
The only other rule for the holding cells is making sure the heat is at or above 22 Celsius degrees. Interesting court cases on that based on human suffering reasons.

Kelowna was looking to put in a 'sobering center', which in their version is a place where drunks(driver or pedestrian) are put and the officer tries to avoid writing down any charge to avoid court time later.  Oh but wait! The police call it voluntary time out, instead of a hostage situation. Civilians with a basic healthcare course watch the dunks, so the officer can get the fark outa there.  Full time cleaning staff to mop up the barf is optional.

2 to 3 year wait to get your drunky case heard in court, so most people don't challenge the tickets, which the gov likes.
