Interesting to see Julianne Moore as Carrie's religious fanatic mother. Not a role I would have ever imagined her in.

Huh?

Didn't they already remake that once?

How much will Stephen King make off of this?

I liked Sissy Spaceck as Carrie - don't really remember the first remake, not looking forward to a 3rd remake.

The book was better.

I don't think it was a remake, but a half assed sequel.

I like the looks of this one, but sadly I doubt we'll be seeing the goods in the "plug it up" scene.

His name was in the trailer like twice so that's probably six figures right there. I'm sure one of his accountants noticed.

I also think it's funny that Stephen King's name is being played up again in movie and TV trailers after sort of disappearing for awhile. Ka is a wheel.

Huh, I actually had no idea that actually existed. Why in the hell would they go with a made for TV version? Very little of King's work is suitable for made for TV. Way too much ends up being cut.

To be fair, Salem's Lot was a rare (good) TV adaption of a King novel.  What other TV adaption of a King novel was as good?

My only issue here is that the lead is too cute to be an outcast.  Even if she's messed up from her weird home life, there would be boys hitting on her and she'd have at least some level of acceptance just from being pretty.

Actually, if they already remade this once, this would only be the second remake...

And why does it matter how much King makes off of this? You think he's the one out there peddling this story? That's not how it works at this stage in the game, someone came to him and asked to make it.

I don't really know if I want to see it either, the trailer didn't look too bad, though. I agree with some of the other posters, they pretty much showed the entire thing there, which is stupid, even if you DO know how the story ends. There's not really a reason to go see it in the theaters now.

Plus there's a whole heap more of actual FX work -- note the floating books. Once we saw the one girl's face fly into the school gym window, we got pretty excited.

What, is io9 hiring 14-year old girls as movie critics now? Wow, floating books? 'Never seen THAT level of "actual FX work" before, if we can just see that one girl's face fly into a window, I may just cream myself...'

Why? He doesn't need the money, so he isn't going around to studios begging. As for his name being in the trailer, it's one of his most famous books AND one of his most famous movies, you didn't think they were going to trot his name out at every opportunity? They're making money off of throwing his name out there, and they're going to flog that horse for as long as they can.

As for "disappearing for awhile", he's still putting shiat out regularly, 2 novels and a play out this year, plus a nonfiction book, 3 e-books and a novel last year, 2 novels, an e-book and a comic in 2011, the list goes on.

Oh I know, I'm pretty caught up on my Stephen King. But back in the 80s and early 90s, his name was used in trailers all the time to sell movies. Hell he even sued The Lawnmower Man to get his name taken off of it. But you really haven't seen that for a long time. Now between this and CBS's Under the Dome King is everywhere again.

Ok, please explain the "douchebag" thing. I've heard people write off his stuff seemingly for no other reason than the fact that he's incredibly prolific. Not all of his stuff is an out of the park homer, and he sometimes farks up his endings. Also, some people don't like the deep back stories he gives his characters and the tangents he goes off on(personally it's what I like best about his stuff).

That said, I have NEVER heard even his harshest critic call him a douchebag, and it seems like everything I've heard about him paints him as a rather nice guy.

Anyway, I'm just curious if there's something I hadn't heard of regarding him being a douchebag, something you've heard, or some interaction you had with him. It just goes against anything I've heard...

Moretz is not right for this role. She is not homely enough. This goes against everything that Carrie is about.

What a waste.

I'd sue to take my name off of Lawnmower Man, too. I was excited when I heard about it, thought they were going to do the actual story, which is a nice mind-fark. Instead, they bought the rights to the name, put in a self operating mower and then gutted the story. That movie blows goats.

I seriously think this is the studio doing everything they can to tie his name in, just a marketing tactic...

Under the Dome will probably suck, IMHO. King movies are hard, despite what people think, there's not a lot you can cut out and still keep the heart of the story, but the moment you put it on TV, you have to cut out everything that actually makes it a King story. A cable network, not bound by FCC regs, would be a good choice. I like the idea they originally had for The Dark Tower, a movie, a season of TV episodes on HBO or Showtime, another movie, and one more season. That would have been a great way to try it. Too bad it fell through.

Exactly. The trailer doesn't need to hide any plot points, it needs to convince you that the remake has a reason for being. Showing flashes of the most famous scenes - the scenes that you know are going to be there whether you see the trailer or not - give the trailer editors a way to say "yeah, it's going to be different."

Now, we could argue about  how different it may or may not be. But to complain about the trailer for the remake of a well-known giving away too much is like complaining that the "Titanic" trailer showed the ship sinking.

There was a made-for-TV remake of "Carrie" in 2002. It was pretty crappy.
