I expect the remake will still be an improvement on the original "The Black One."

Oopsies, that's Black Hole.

I'm betting there is going to be some hot robot sex in this one.

I doubt the remake will be as trippy and farked up as the original.

Ah, then it will have the correct amount of suckage for a black hole.

I recently re-watched the original. The visuals are still pretty stunning at times, even though it came long before the days of CGI.

The bots are still just as campy as Jar Jar, and just as grating.

Oh you just say that because Prometheus couldn't keep straight the 5 themes they were trying to get across when most movies manage to handle one or two.  I mean, daddy issues, meaning of life, alien life, origin of life, God and religion, are androids real people....  And then the gaping plot holes starting with the opening scene and pretty much occurring in every scene thereafter...

I see I'm too late to beat the Prometheus whiners.

Prometheus wasn't as good as you wanted it to be, but it sure as hell wasn't as bad as you insist.  This Black Hole movie will be better written and directed than any of you losers could manage.

I think of the two writers involved in Prometheus, this is the one that didn't totally fark it up.

I notice "one of..." I didn't watch the writing credits but I am going to generously assume one person can't have enough suck in them to have solely written Prometheus. I don't know which was worse the film or the pretentious twits that tell you how misunderstood it was.

Spaihts? He's cool. It's that other guy who rewrote most of Prometheus we have to look out for.

I watched it a few days ago, and wondered aloud why it hadn't been re-done.

I also think Dune should be re-done, with the entire original script, but with special effects that aren't embarrassing to watch.

Are you going to support that argument, or is it just on your say-so?  Here's my argument for why "Prometheus" is a bad movie - yes, a bad movie:  the narrative is a rambling, unfocused jigsaw puzzle that doesn't make any sense no matter which way you try to put it together.

If you can explain the story and plot to me in concise, understandable terms, I'll concede my argument to yours.  What do you say?

Oh, that's easy.  Humanity was created by aliens who later decided to eradicate us because we killed Space Jesus.  Meanwhile, Guy Pearce in really bad age makeup wants to live forever, so he shoots himself into space with a robot, his daughter, and a half-dozen idiots.  The End.

Yep. Spaihts' "Alien: Engineers" script has been floating around for a long time and it was waaaay better before Damon "See? Jack and his friends are in limbo after all" Lindehof got his hacky mitts on it.

wow, i just read the plot synopsis on this movie on Wiki, and althoguh I know I saw it about fifty times as a kid, I can't really remember anything about it other than "Oh, fking cool! robots!"

I'd be more worried about this:

Justin Springer, who produced Kosinski's feature debut Tron: Legacy

The new Tron movie looked spiffy but somehow managed to be crushingly boring. And don't get me started on Jeff Bridges uncanny valley doppelganger .

I went into Prometheus with really low expectations, mostly because I waited until it was available on iTunes, so I'd heard from everybody how much it sucked. It seemed a lot better than I expected. Could it have been better? Certainly. Was it Dungeon King: Two Worlds bad? No, but not much is. Sure, it was no biatch Slap! but then, only biatch Slap! is biatch Slap!

This part just bugged me. His master plan was to shuffle up to and ask one of the aliens to grant him eternal life...why did he have any expectations that they would?

2013-04-04 11:46:32 PM
Prometheus wasn't horrible and it was visually stunning. Unfortunately, good writing is still the best special effect, and they apparently didn't budget for it.

So they're doing remakes of The Black Hole and 2,000 Leagues Under the Sea? Kind of redundant.

Well, he wouldn't be any worse off if they said no. He was about to die anyway, and willing to spend a ridiculous fortune for a slim chance. That being said, the story really needed a lot more work.

I loved The Black Hole, but will not mind a remake. If it's good, yay, another chance to see the story done anew, and if it sucks, the original still exists.

I can't even figure out the economics of that world. Massive interstellar ships without landing vessels. Sublight interstellar ore haulers. Rates of angular rotation of ships that mean they either have inertial dampening or ship parts held together with strong force reinforced matter.

But it's got a simpler story and plot than Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, which was a superior movie.

And at least we're not talking about road trip movies. So many stories are road trips, which end up being easy to explain because they really are linear.

/What is Star Wars but a series of epic road trips.

Nope, sorry Prometheus blew goat chunks. Nice visuals but who ever wrote it was either high or stupid or both.

You know, a modern, non-disneyfied remake of 20,000 leagues would kick ass if done properly.

Otto_E_Rodika: The Cygnus remains one of the coolest spaceships ever on film.

Old-school FX model makers in Hollywood have said that they LOVED the Cynus model kits because of all the "greeblies" (odds and ends) they could make from it.

Probably the first Borg Cube was made from several Cygnus kits.

Actually yeah, it was horrible. But the visuals were so compelling, some people were fooled into thinking they'd seen something better than they really had. Call it the Avatar Effect, where audiences are so wowed by the window dressing, they refuse to accept that what's on display is worthless junk.

Picture the exact same film done with SyFy Channel production values. No one would be championing it because no one would remember it.
