(Mirror.co.uk)   If you've cut millions in benefits and services to the disabled because you claim the system is "broken" and abused by "scroungers", you probably shouldn't let your chauffeur park your £50,000 land rover in a disabled parking space   (mirror.co.uk) divider line 58

There is currently a minor revolution going on in the UK, because the Conservatives know they're going to be a one term government and probably not regain power for a decade, to dismantle almost every aspect of the social infrastructure.

The welfare system? Gutted.

Austerity? Yup, in spades, even though we're the sole "functioning" country headed for a quadruple dip recession.

The NHS? Semi-privatised in the last few days.

Schools? A huge wad of the funding now going to "free schools", which are essentially a backdoor for private religious schools funded by the state.

The disabled? Getting smacked by the "bedroom tax".

The only non-ass backward thing happening is marriage equality.

None of this was in their manifesto. In fact, promises to do the exact opposite on most of these things were.

I used to drive my grandmother around after she finally lost her licence to drive. We'd use her disabled permit to go to the grocery store, hair parlor, ect.

Anyway; I'd always go and get her prescriptions by myself, because granny always had questions about her meds that the 20-something gal that ran the counter couldn't answer, or had been answered by the doctor. I'd use her disabled permit; so the errand didn't take too long ( granny would wonder where I'd gotten to). One time; some lady tried to make a federal case about me using the permit. I explained that I was getting meds for my granny and the lady could go have relations with a fire hydrant.

/ I wasn't there long; besides, there were 12 other disabled spots

Do you really believe you were justified in using that permit, let alone on the right side of the law?

This is a guy who deserves the 'Walter' treatment.  Who can make an honest man out of him?

I have borrowed my fil's truck a couple times after he got his handicap placard and I have drove with him in my car.  I only parked in the handicap spot when he was with me and he remembered his handicap placard.  It is weird that I got out his truck (it had the actual tag) and got the 'but you are able bodied' look even though I parked away.  If I don't park in the spot then the tag isn't for me, geniuses.

George Osborne has the most hateful, punchable face the world has ever seen. Seriously, GIS him and see.

"Karen Girvan2:39 PM on 5/4/2013I dunno - I suppose being a tory could count as a disability...."

This was done in one in the comments on the article itself.

What's the point of living in a democracy if you just roll over like a good little doggie and accept that everyone in power has the right to be a corrupt, greedy arsehole?

I'd agree that I would be unjustified if I was using it to conduct my own business. But, I was conducting my granny's. The reason I think I was justified is; she was suffering from Alzheimer's and a heart condition. If she got too upset; it could kill her. She'd always get upset about her meds; or she might spend 3 hours on the phone with the bank, trying to balance her check book.

/after she had a series of mini-strokes; we just did that stuff for her

The reason we think you weren't is because you seem to have missed the point of those parking spaces. They're there so people will have wider spaces to use their wheelchairs, and those who struggle to walk will have less of a distance to travel. They're not a special luxury space you get because you're running an errand. They fulfil a real need.

9.8/10.  You got some decent bites and artfully executed that post in a convincing way.  The .2 deduction comes from the follow-up post which doesn't lend much in the way of getting angered responses.

All-in-all, I'd say: "Job well done!"
