Now I see why the Zoo was brimming with people this past weekend.  Easter is normally kinda busy, but 26 was a parking lot.

Now I wanna go to the Zoo too.  Or just take a ride up-river and see 'em.  Either way, I love me some Otters.

John Buck 41: I could watch otter videos all day long.

Seconded.  I was amazed that the kid didn't freak out every time his mom dragged him underwater.

My mother tried to teach me to swim the same way, and I smacked the hell out her the first time she tried that.  Then I cried and shiat myself.  Mr baby otter was much more composed.

Damn, that was adorable.

Now I have to go shoot a few tigers to get my masculinity back.

She bit your neck and dragged you underwater?

"F*ckin' A, Mom! WTF?"

So do you like to swim now, or did she ruin it for you?

Yeah, that would kind of either kill swimming for you forever, or, well, make you into an otter...

Oh, she pushed me underwater plenty of times.

And yeah, I'm 45 years old and I hate swimming.  If I hit the beach and the water goes above my head I still do the panic doggy paddle to get to higher ground.

Still peeved that, during our first-ever family trip to California, we hit the Monterey Aquarium TWO DAYS before the otter exhibit was scheduled to re-open. :(

Baby river otters make lovely armrest covers

A momma otter is a bit rough and it's cute but a college basketball coach does it and outrage? Double Standard.

Could that dizzy batch have said "actually" any more? It was an endurance test by the two minute mark, I swear...

/Cute otters are cute though, I almost "awww"ed.

I've seen them in the occasional backwater creek (in Florida) and then saw them at the Brevard zoo where they have a pretty awesome space. I never wanted to leave that area...

They seem to take great amusement at people staring at them, and would plunge down into a glass-fronted pool and do extra gymnastics just to rub it in that they were far more muscled, lithe and acrobatic than humans could ever hope to be. I'm pretty sure back in their dens after zoo closing time,  they mock us as wide-eyed rubes...

Ha, I don't know if Mo The Otter had much choice, especially when she was teaching him to dive. He just barely had enough time to take a tiny breath before she went under again. Cute video!

On the up side, at least you won't drown.

I whole-otterly approve of this ottdorable post.

River otters are awesome. I wish they got more play as the baseline 'otter' than sea otters n.n

If otters are anything like cats, grabbing them by the back of the neck like that has a calming effect on them.
However, if you do it right, even human babies often love swimming:

Oddly, human babies have reflexes to hold their breath under water but then they lose it as they get older.
