Brian Blessed's Bastard Boy: Mom and the daughter got her somewhere north of us, but not really sure.  I'm stunned in that this is the woman who constantly complains we have too many pets as it is.  I know the daughter talked her into it, but the fact she went along with it is still stunning.  He's still a little shy around the house, so we haven't had too many picture opportunities just yet.  Below is him and Pirogi.  Keep in mind Piggy is 18 and a half pounds, and shiatake is easily as long as he is, but no where near the weight.  He could stand to gain a little more and put him around ten pounds, but his fur is so long and soft that he looks like he weighs a lot more than he really does.

To paraphrase Paul Harvey: "Page...THREE!"

Brian Blessed's Bastard Boy: It's been less than a week since I lost my Sake', and it still hurts, but I'm not overcome by it now.  But seeing as how this is the B4 home for animal hoarders, you can pretty much guess what happened.  But surprisingly, there was a twist.  My mother, the one who hates the ferrets, and is terrified of the lizards, and doesn't really like the cats, decided to work with my daughter and on Wednesday night, brought home Mo.  He is about 3 years old, and is definitely part, if not all, Maine Coon, which is what the wife always wanted anyway.  I know she wasn't a part of it, because she's a horrible actress, and she was shocked by it.  I'm guessing he's supposed to be mine, but he's spending more time with the wife than me.  She's smiling that she finally got a Maine Coon, so I'm going to be happy for her in this.  He's been very skittish since he's been here, so the pictures are limited right now.  I'm hoping that here soon he'll be more comfortable with us, but I know it takes time.  So say a big Caturday welcome to shiatake, the newest member of the B4 family.  And yes, I named him with another Japanese themed food in honor of my beautiful boy.

WOW! That's impressive!
As somebody who sews (SCA as well as mundane clothes) I salute you!
My current 'project' is reconstructive surgery on a friend's beloved baby blanket. LOOKS major, but all it really requires is new binding and some judicious patching.
A much easier job than another friend's favorite pair of pants...required removal of back pockets and opening of leg seams before I could even START the repairs.

I love this picture!  This morning my daughter and came across a You Tube video called "Star Wars Uncut: Directors Cut".  It is Star Wars with different people and things, along with the real people.  It was hilarious!  I haven't laughed out loud that hard for a very long time.  It is perfect for Farkers as it has so many obscure references.  The Mos Eisley bar scene where Obi Wan defends Luke made me fall over laughing (about 45 minutes in, if you don't have the time to see the whole thing)

You might enjoy this one... Hardware Wars.
The purposely cheesy 'special effects' are a hoot. :-D

yobbery: predle: Yobber, here are a few more options for Biscuit

We have enough fur to make one. That would be creepy...a sweater made of his own fur.

Yeah, I can see myself explaining that one to the surgeon. ;-p

You might be surprised....there are some REAL purists out there who spin their own yarn for knitting/crocheting.

Day three of shiatake being here, and things are going OK so far.  He's still a little intimidated by Waffles and Scampi, and has been spending his time under the stairs, but he came out last night and crawled into bed with the wife and was begging for tummy scritches.  Looks like the wife not only got her Maine Coon finally, but I'm thinking he is going to attach himself to her.  She was worried that I would be upset about it, but I told her it's a cat, and it will decide who it's master is, not us.  Yes my heart still feels broken, and will be for a while.  If the new cat attaches to her and not me, then as long as he's happy and content, then so am I.  I think he'll be skittish for a while, but that's understandable.  Pirogi is cracking me up in that he and shiatake are kind of bonding.  Under the stairs is Piggy's spot, and I was worried that something might happen, but there haven't been any fights yet, and now Piggy is taking him food by filling his mouth with it, then walking over to the stairs and spitting it out on the floor.  I saw him do this and thought he was getting sick until I saw a paw come out and grab some of it.  Never saw anything like that before and just had to laugh.  As for the other critters, we're more than likely days away from our second brood of bearded dragons.  Sage is beyond pregnant and ready to burst, so they're coming soon.  Papaya is much more active in his cage, so he's adjusted to being here now.  The ferrets are still terrorists, so nothing ever changes with them.  As for me, I'm still healing and miss my boy, but life goes on here, and if you're not paying attention, the furry and scaly things here will run over you.  I'll try and get some pics of shiatake today, but he's still a very shy boy.

Hai, Caturday folks! Need some good thoughts, vibes, prayers etc. for my Cracker Jack. He just puked twice then went to the litterbox, got out of the litterbox and peed on the rug in front of the tub, then when he finished, we noticed that he has blood in his urine. Taking him to the vet ASAP. Hope it's nothing serious!

Not a happy Ice Queen today.

First off, the flu - BLARGH!!

2nd - my grandparents' dog has diabetes and the vet is trying to tell them to put her down. I'm sorry, but she still eats, she still plays, she torments her cat (yes, she has a cat), she shows no signs what so ever of having difficulties and he wants to put her down. I'm sorry, but she's diabetic. Just makes me a little irritated at the moment and having a sick, irritated Ice Queen is not good.

1st off - Sorry you have the flu, call your local chinese place and get some egg drop soup. it's usually cheap and is as close to homemade chicken soup as you can get without doing all the work.

2nd besides diabetes what else is wrong with the dog. Someone I worked with had a cat with diabetes and she did
stick tests and shots for years until the cat finally wore out. Didn't mean to sound flip about it but at some point even the shots just don't do it anymore. Is the dog at the stage where the shots just wouldn't work?

I don't think it's the vet's decision to make. My Dinah was diagnosed with diabetes in 2007, took insulin for over 3 years before it no longer became necessary; she'd lost weight and the disease reversed. This happens with people with Type 2, too. I think they need to see another vet!

Things I saw in Vancouver this week during my travels to work and appointments that made me go Dafuq?!
- two guys getting escorted off the skytrain by security...carrying a kings sized ratty looking mattress...
- guy getting on skytrain with a bike. Then he turns around and I noticed a pomeranian strapped to his chest like a baby...
- guy sits down across from me on skytrain, and proceeds to eat a non sliced loaf of bread. As in just nomming an entire loaf of bread...Bonus: saw this dude twice this week...and eating a loaf of bread each time.

Not cat related, but how I spent my day so far with the family.  After three years of not liking this (I'm old fashioned and don't have much hair anyway), my son finally grew enough to donate to Locks of Love.  He told me this a couple of years ago when it was time for a haircut.  I didn't believe him at first, but he kept up with it, and below are the befores and afters.  It's nice to finally have a son who isn't mistaken for a girl a lot of the places we go to.  Now the daughter has a few more inches to go and she'll be ready to donate.  Both saw a special on TV about kids with cancer and decided they wanted to do it.  I was overseas at the time, and never gave it much thought, but the stuck with it and I am very proud of him and her.

Hugs and love to all who need them (Dinah's owner and Cracker Jack's too.)  BBBB congrats on the new addition and as cats get older they change a bit.  So you may find yourself "chosen" by one of your existing brood as time passes.

And another thank you for Bathia_Mapes for the month of TF!!!

Cracker Jack is being seen by the vet now. He was *not* pleased when we tried to put him in the carrier - we ended up having to wrap him up in a towel like a burrito. When we got to the vet they had to sedate him so they could examine him. Poor kitty!

HAhaha.

Wanted to share a hospital moment with you.

So I was at work yesterday and I had gone up to one of the recovery towers to do some work.

In this particular ward is a big male nurse, totally would not even make one think he is even a nurse the way he looks with his shoulder length curly hair and beard ;)
Anyways I hear him ask one of his coworkers to whack him on the back between his shoulder blades and she very hesitantly gave him just a light slap.
As I knew exactly why he needed this done, I went up and said "Allow me" and proceeded to give him 3 big hard hearty whacks on his back with the heels of my hands, hearing the phlegmn loosen up as he breathed (Asthma/lung issues: I remember my mom doing this for hours with me lying across her knees as she pummeled my back to loosen my lungs up). He turned around and with a surprised look on his face said "Oh! I thought it was someone else given the strength of those whacks! you sure pack a whallop for someone your size! thanks!" and proceeded to give me a high five and also comment how he's surprised I'm not a nurse myself. Hahahah.

I run into things like this all the time at work. People are genuinely surprised how much knowledge I have on a variety of things, how seeing a lot of things happen at work don't phase me and how much I interact with patients every where I go.
That and for some reason, I've been getting a lot of positive comments on my dandelion tattoo.
I have no idea what's up with that.

Never considered my kids to be socially active or aware, but all those years I was gone, I guess Mrs. B4 took care of that.  My first conversation with him basically ended up with him saying that it wasn't fair that kids didn't have hair.  Didn't know how to respond, and said that if he wanted to do it, then I had no problem with it, but at some point he would get it cut even if he backed out and decided not to donate it.  I was just worried that it was some thing for him to grow his hair out like some of his classmates.  Very proud of him, and just wondering what the daughter is going to look like once hers gets long enough to donate, and she has enough to not be bald.

Hellloooo Alien Dandelion! Wonder if Box you said not to send, ever arove or if it may be en route back here again.
Tnx for Gremlin photos. You right, he is getting huge...
Backing up, for TheIceQueen, diabetes is not grounds  for downputting! Purrsonally know more folk with dogs than cats who have that charming disease. Ginger's doing Not That Bad with his -- we'd thought he Ate Everything In Sight last eve but turns out not. He was higher than shoulda been at lunchtime, but not nearly as high as we expected.  In same vein of thought, mayhap my parents shoulda had me put down when I was diagnosed, woulda been a lot less trouble for them.

Also...

Is it a sign that I cannot go to any wards in two different hospitals without hearing:
"Uh oh! Here comes trouble!"
and then watching as both workers AND patients all turn or crane their necks (to see out of their rooms) to
check if it's actually me?

Heh. Maybe that should be telling me something.
I sure love it though when I see patients break into smiles and see them waving at me from their rooms and try to get my attention.
I always make sure to say Hi to everyone and gently joke with them and the staff.

Most of the people I work with don't like it - but I don't care.
The positive reactions from the other hospital staff and especially the patients - speak louder volumes. Even if I may be feeling crappy myself, it always makes me feel good at the end of every shift that I was able to make others smile.

/no idea why I'm all chatty and sharing all of a sudden
