Yeah early Caturday

The babies are now 2 weeks old and eyes are open. There is one I call Leo because he is so brave. When he started crawling, when he heard my voice, he crawled over to me and snuggled on my sweatshirt. Now the rest are starting to follow him around. Will post pics later, right now its meal time, mom me and babies :)

Yay !! Caturday is here.. Greetings to all, and hopes for a stress free weekend for everyone.. rainy tonight and tomorrow morning, sleet/snow to the west, and forecast of 78 degrees for Monday... maybe spring will have sprung...  Fred is in the utility room staying dry.. has a plastic food bowl.. when it is empty, he smacks the edge and flips it around.. doing so now... can hear that in the house....
Will there be some reconstructive surgery with our star?  Breathing/ smelling/ eating could be an issue...just curious....

Ugh! What a stress filled week! We were supposed to go to my folks. They decided that the bath renovation was too much for guests..then, at the last min son and I decided to go to a college open house..so..online booking for that..then a friend in need..then I have two memorial services this weekend. My hubby's Uncles. Both died within weeks of one another. Uncle Ted wanted his memorial to be on opening day, and for everyone to go to the game..he and his two bros went to Spring Training several yrs in a row....only my father in law is left of the baseball trio. And he is the eldest! He will be spending the evening, with dinner and dessert at our house.

TGICday!

He's throwing off a lot of heat and he's been real snuggly. I wish it would hurry and get warmer. I hate having to do this to him but we really don't have a choice.

She gave him a really nice cut. No fancy stuff. Other than a little touch up on the butt (one cheek is longer than the other) he should look nice and smooth in about a week.

Hubby and I *may* have to move sometime in the next year due to the fact that the bank wants money for the house that we ain't got. Nothing is certain yet, but I'm making myself crazy thinking up every possible contingency and trying to plan how to deal with each - but planning for the future is impossible when you don't know what that future is!

Spinnyr: yobbery...do they put the kits 'under' to shave/cut/trim them?

No, he was awake. His behavior was really surprising. It was about a 25 minute drive there and back. He just looked out at the world from his carrier and didn't make a peep. He was a perfect gentleman through 95% of the trimming. He wasn't fond of having his butt and tail done. I expected much worse.

Most of his car trips lately have been only about a half mile to the emergency hospital.

It is with a heavy heart that I tell you, my Caturday friends, of my Dinah's passing into the Summerlands. Her 18 years in this world ended early Wednesday morning, as she was eased out of her old, tired, sick body into the next world. My daughter (a vet tech), our favorite kitty doc, another vet tech friend, and I were there to send her on her journey. Fare thee well, my old friend.

Yes, I read the book before I saw the movie (2x in theaters summer of '80) After the first viewing we came home to a bat in our apartment! As a rule I try not to compare movies with the novel. To me it's like saying bacon is better than pork chops, or stout is better than bourbon. Or the old standby...apples and oranges. Having said all that, the movie was FAR better than the mini-series that King supposedly liked better. Go figure.

My MIL (no, that is NOT a typo) has informed us that her 3 y/o Maine Coon Cat Jasper has exacerbated her allergies to the point that Jasper needs to find a new home. Namely, HERE at Buck Manor! He is a bee-YOOT-i-ful cat and I can't wait to introduce him to you, but it probably won't be until next weekend. Only problem is he's been an outdoor cat all his life and that's just not gonna work in this neighborhood, so there will be a major lifestyle adjustment on his part.

If female, it might be carrying the young in it,s pouch.. when they are born, they are tiny.. and stay in the pouch until they can get around on their own ..mammaries are in the pouch.. had a possum show up in my garage where I used to live.. stood there by my feet looking at me, belly dragging the ground.. figured that she might be looking for a safe place to have her brood.. didn't know about the pouch routine.. found a cardboard box, put some straw and grass clippings in it and put it down in front of her: she climbed in and lay down.. put the box in a corner.. two days later there were 11 babies in there with her.. mini- possums.. with teeth and all.. she stayed there for about three weeks, then moved on... she had the trust.. I would sit down by the box and the babies would crawl out of the box and all over me.. I could pick them up.. mama was totally cool with it...knew she was safe.. if you have a location away from the house where you could give her some privacy and Eli wouldn't go, she'd probably take you up on it....

Oh my, you lucky person! I had a Maine Coon, a breeder told me she was a "foundation" female. He was bummed because she was spayed...one of these days I gotta scan her pics...anyway, I am sure you can convince kitteh to stay in. Either that or train her to harness. I tried with a free photo thingummy online... It had all sorts of stuffs to animate pics and everything else peoples around here do, just couldn't figure out the side-by-side type thing.  I want the ability for around here, but I need it for our business pics, too.  Thoughts?

He is a bee-YOOT-i-ful cat and I can't wait to introduce him to you, but it probably won't be until next weekend. Only problem is he's been an outdoor cat all his life and that's just not gonna work in this neighborhood, so there will be a major lifestyle adjustment on his part.

Oh my, you lucky person! I had a Maine Coon, a breeder told me she was a "foundation" female. He was bummed because she was spayed...one of these days I gotta scan her pics...anyway, I am sure you can convince kitteh to stay in. Either that or train her to harness. They are truely intelligent kittehs...

Hopefully he will be more friendly than Ripley. No matter how many hugs, kisses or ear skritches I give her only time she gives a shait about me is when we play red laser dot in the bathroom at bedtime.

Wait. That makes it sound like I go to bed in the bathroom. Uh, no.

Debby7813: It is with a heavy heart that I tell you, my Caturday friends, of my Dinah's passing into the Summerlands. Her 18 years in this world ended early Wednesday morning, as she was eased out of her old, tired, sick body into the next world. My daughter (a vet tech), our favorite kitty doc, another vet tech friend, and I were there to send her on her journey. Fare thee well, my old friend.

A retrospective:

mousiebelle: Otay, I has a picture question.  How do you get the side-by-side comparison type pics?  I tried to create one earlier today and failed miserably :(  I don't have PS... I tried with a free photo thingummy online... It had all sorts of stuffs to animate pics and everything else peoples around here do, just couldn't figure out the side-by-side type thing.  I want the ability for around here, but I need it for our business pics, too.  Thoughts?

[farm9.staticflickr.com image 375x500]

Hi mousie!
Picmonkey has a fairly simple tool for this that you might like to try.

(I'll put some step-by-step instructions here in case anyone else would like to try it too!  Sorry for long post.)

OK:

Go to Picmonkey site: http://www.picmonkey.com/#

Click "Create a collage".

Click the blue "Open photos" square and upload whatever pics you'd like to use from your computer.

When you're done that, a default collage layout appears on the right side pane.

To choose a different layout, click the small divided-up square button from the toolbar strip on the left (says "layouts" when you mouse over it).  For a simple side by side thing, I'd go with the two-square "ducks in a row" option.  If you want it to be one on top of the other, just use the "rotate" button tool at the bottom of the layout area.

Now go back to your images by clicking the little mountainy-picture looking button on the toolbar (says "images" when moused over).

Drag & drop your images into the layout panes on the right.

Drag images around to desired position.

To change pane dimensions: hover mouse pointer over edges and divider lines of layout panes until 2-headed arrow appears; click & drag to desired positions.

To change spacing or border colour between photos, click the paint palette tool on the left toolbar strip (says "background" on mouseover), then use the sliders to achieve desired result.

When you're all done, at the top of the layout area, click "Save".

Enter a filename, choose a file size if desired, then hit the green "Save" button at the bottom.  Pick your destination folder and hit save, and you're done!

Hope it works for you and that my instructions made sense!  :)  Any questions please feel free to email me.

Cat!

Hi there everybody! About 3 days ago my niece called me in a panic after a friend of hers had come across a litter of 3 kittens, just hours old, and no mom to be found anywhere. Now while my niece Katie as well as her friend have rescued such younguns successfully before, they both now have jobs, kids of the 2 legged variety, and can't devote the time to care for the wee ones properly. The Society of Humane Friends to the rescue!! This Gwinnett County rescue in GA has stepped up and the youngsters will be available to join someones home in the near future. Thank you Monica and everybody at SHF, you do so much good!!! It would be nice if someone could send them a little food $$$. Hint, hint.

There is also a much more affordable option of the same thing but different brand (I think they are less than half the price).  The collars work for about a month and are a little stinky at first.  Your local pet store may have both brands, or you can get them on Amazon.  :-)

As the barbershop harmony contests approach, my mind lies out on the floor to serve as a Cat Toy. Recall almost nothing  I don't write down!
Intended to compliment Snuffybud on his floor laying dab hand(s). Looks well done.
Other Fang Qs & compliments I don't recall; please visualise & imagine a general one of those at high enough decibel level for earplugs to be recommended.
Am now surprisingly to temp threadsend!
Have also recalled that haven't yet transcribed the 2d (JanFeb) amateur radio mag for my client in Salt Lake. Also, Plumbicon has directed that bush hog & flamethrower be employed to Clean Up for when Cat Sitter comes next week to feed & medicate when contests underway. If successful, might help for midMay when sister Buckeye Belle needs place to stay during Dayton HamVention. She's on huge Volunteer Examiner team who do licence testing. One of my chorusmates might've been able to put her up, but one of her daughters has planned for whole extended family to Be Away that week. Pl also said we'd book a motel room nearby for Connie N8IO the Belle, but Connie much prefers to stay with folks, even if free motel room's offered.  Pl thinks she'll be Put Off by residual anointment scent that we no longer notice.

Your helper and supervisor are so adorable!  I love how they are so interested in what is going on!

I had more than just those two, those are the only ones with decent photos. Cisco was very helpful too! He came to check and see if I was still alive after an afternoon of whacking boards together!

It's been less than a week since I lost my Sake', and it still hurts, but I'm not overcome by it now.  But seeing as how this is the B4 home for animal hoarders, you can pretty much guess what happened.  But surprisingly, there was a twist.  My mother, the one who hates the ferrets, and is terrified of the lizards, and doesn't really like the cats, decided to work with my daughter and on Wednesday night, brought home Mo.  He is about 3 years old, and is definitely part, if not all, Maine Coon, which is what the wife always wanted anyway.  I know she wasn't a part of it, because she's a horrible actress, and she was shocked by it.  I'm guessing he's supposed to be mine, but he's spending more time with the wife than me.  She's smiling that she finally got a Maine Coon, so I'm going to be happy for her in this.  He's been very skittish since he's been here, so the pictures are limited right now.  I'm hoping that here soon he'll be more comfortable with us, but I know it takes time.  So say a big Caturday welcome to shiatake, the newest member of the B4 family.  And yes, I named him with another Japanese themed food in honor of my beautiful boy.

Welcome Shiatake! You look kinda mad in your picture. Guess you weren't ready for your close-up? Where did your Mom get the newest kitteh? What a very kind thing to do. I hope that your little mushroom grows on you...

Mom and the daughter got her somewhere north of us, but not really sure.  I'm stunned in that this is the woman who constantly complains we have too many pets as it is.  I know the daughter talked her into it, but the fact she went along with it is still stunning.  He's still a little shy around the house, so we haven't had too many picture opportunities just yet.  Below is him and Pirogi.  Keep in mind Piggy is 18 and a half pounds, and shiatake is easily as long as he is, but no where near the weight.  He could stand to gain a little more and put him around ten pounds, but his fur is so long and soft that he looks like he weighs a lot more than he really does.

Your mom helped bring Shiatake home? That is quite a turn of events!

What a handsome young man!

Lola has that look from time to time. Give him time and he'll adjust. It took Lola three years to get used to the human living in her house.
We still have issues from time to time, but that's to be expected with a diva like her. She's the princess and she knows it!

I just wanted to point out that Maine Coons tend to not fully mature until after they are 2 yrs of age. So kitteh may not be "full grown". I think my Punkin got up to 12 lbs. I know she looked huge until you bathed her!

oooh! funny kitteh story! Today at the barn, one of the nicer horse people was telling me that she had shaved her kittehs rump, because of the dingleberries(I gave her that term!). She said the cat loved it, and even started drooling while she was removing the matted hair. So now she says she is going to keep the cat trimmed back there. -This conversation started when we were talking about the horses shedding out, and needing some long hair trimming around the face!

Can you tell I had a good day?

Oh he is handsome! I really like big bulky cats. You can give them a good squeeze! I had one big black male cat named Porky. He was so unusual. He had a medium coat, with ear tufts, and long fur between the toes. Gold eyes. Short front legs and long, long hind legs..He looked like a supped up car..and the longest most inquisitive tail on the planet! Durn near prehensile I swear!

Funny you mention that. I put one of those floors in our spare room. I can't remember the manufacturer but it wasn't Pergo. The floor looks great (as does yours) and is impervious to just about everything as advertised, but "simply snap together" my ass! I spent a day and a half beating the living shiat out of those planks.

It went easier after I went back and bought the optional 'HaHa, Knew You'd Be Back..' custom pounding block with S shaped beater bar...but I was almost done by then.

Old feral cat my aunt saved from starvation (due to his deformities he could barely eat but had somehow hung on for a year -- when she found him, he was bald on his head from malnutrition and could barely stand -- vet said he was probably a couple days from death).  We took him in and got him surgeries and he was the most awesome, loving (and obviously very compliant since he used to let me dress him up) cat ever.

He had no front teeth, just fangs, so his tongue used to get stuck between them after he was done cleaning himself, and he'd walk around with his tongue hanging out.

Also, he was hooked on the 'nip:

Brian Blessed's Bastard Boy: It's been less than a week since I lost my Sake', and it still hurts, but I'm not overcome by it now.

Poor guy, we turned up the heat a couple of notches. It went up into the high 50s today, which means the furnace hasn't been running enough, which means the Biscuit/Man CaveTM is getting cold, which means the Biscuit gets cold.

We never have the cats bathed before grooming, so his cut looks a little choppy right now. He'll look silky smooth in a week or so.

Get to type on what's sing-cerely hoped to be Lucky Pg 7, right below one of those OddHaircutFotos of Biscuit. Does kinda reflect how much came off. Requested similar foto from chorusmate who had Coonie Simba, who lets her live with him, done few days ago for seasonal matting. Not seen that yet.
In course of transcription, in ARRL District 4 which is US SE, the district chair has a tale & foto of Border collie mix she took in a while back. Once transcribed, will be able to copy text (& scan foto of course tho it's black & white) to Fetch both.

yobbery: Snuffybud: I had more than just those two, those are the only ones with decent photos. Cisco was very helpful too! He came to check and see if I was still alive after an afternoon of whacking boards together!

It might be the brand of laminate. The Pergo doesn't simply snap together, but it doesn't take much work to make it. I'd drop a piece into the slot of the previous piece, thunk it 3 or 4 times with a rubber mallet to seat it, press it down, then (using a scap piece as the pounding block) thunk it another 3 or 4 times to put it into place. I didn't have to beat it into place, it went together nicely with fairly light taps, but Monday my right shoulder told me all about it! It wasn't that I had to hit it hard, it was the repetitive motion that bothered me, both the up/down workout on my legs and the wear and tear on my shoulder.

I love this picture!  This morning my daughter and came across a You Tube video called "Star Wars Uncut: Directors Cut".  It is Star Wars with different people and things, along with the real people.  It was hilarious!  I haven't laughed out loud that hard for a very long time.  It is perfect for Farkers as it has so many obscure references.  The Mos Eisley bar scene where Obi Wan defends Luke made me fall over laughing (about 45 minutes in, if you don't have the time to see the whole thing)

Joan Jones W4JMJ, resident in Parrish FL in winter, wrote in her district column in Jan-Feb 2013 YL Harmonics as only one member in her district sent anything in:

I would like to share with you our newest addition to our family. We lost our 13-year-old Yorkie, Coco, just before Christmas 2011. She was the best dog ever & will be missed.
Before long, we thought our (then 1 year old) Yorkie, Gigi needed some companionship. So we decided to adopt a rescue Border Collie mix into the family. Sophia is the best friend of her "sister" Gigi. It seems to be a match made in heaven. Isn't it amazing how much joy & comfort our furry friends bring! I hope you enjoy the picture. & as always, I look forward to hearing from you with any news & pictures to share.
I wish you all the best in this New Year.

It was definitely the brand. The underlayment came pre-attached to each plank and it quickly became obvious that the interlock was a bit more radical than Pergo. The wife sold flooring at the time...she picked it.

Using a scrap piece for all that pounding just got old halfway through, plus there's that shoulder thing you mentioned. I could have made a larger block to beat on but I took the easy way out and bought one. Still, the stuff held up to all the pounding with only one damaged plank.

It could be a memory stick going bad or the MB as you suspect. Most likely a bad solder joint due to lead free solder. A quick way to rule out or prove a MB problem would be to download Damn Small Linux and run it from the CD, it's only 50Mb on disk and it runs from ram so it won't change anything on your hard drive. Just set your CD drive as the first boot option in the BIOS.

Retreat to ft of pg 7, which was fairly lucky except for the Sweater Show (Suzy's Sweater of Death  isn't any worse than any depictured there)yobbery, if you know or can find someone to spin Biscuit's fur into yarn (esp for either free gratis or a friendly price), a sweater knit of his own fur wouldn't really be creepy at all! Also, it'd be purrfect match.  Don't know how to spin but might be able to knit, given desired dimensions ..... would also do it for free gratis, tho am not sure would also spring for yarn postage.  But not until after barbershop contests! Quartets (am not in one but wish to watch & cheer, 5 QTs from my chorus!) 4-12-13, chori 4-13-13.
Time for me to turn into a watermillion or something like.  CU good folk in the Daylit AM.

ArmednHammered: OlderGuy: Have been working on the computer issue.. believe I have MB problems.. will go off line at random times, drop the browser periodically, and just do weird stuff.. not consistantly.. reboot fixes it... for a while... the other systems are not affected.. got that system shut down.. will be reinstalling the OS on a different HD... process of elimination is happening..  may just spring for a new MB/ i3 processor and go Win7, as XP support gets dropped next year and I can't get IE9 or 10 on XP.. if I can find the drivers I need, it will happen soon..

The MB in there now is a combo board.. HD,s are SATA, Opticals are IDE, still has an 'A' drive in it...pull the memory periodically and clean the connections.. pin connectors get tarnished after a while.. front USB,s are worn out... running an Antec 430 power supply that is 10 years old.. NO dust bunnies present.. have a 60 lb nitrogen tank here to keep them out... and the cat hair....only issue I have is my Audigy2ZS sound card w/ front panel.. allows me to record whatever I am listening to in WAVE format.. need to find Win7 drivers for that... front panel jacks out coax and optical.. Creative ceased making that years ago.... hate to lose that... has EQ and mixer onboard, plus THX, EAX, and a bunch.... What does your program do?  Is it a diagnostics program?

BLARGH!!!  SHERPA SMASH!!! *takes deep breathe, chugs rum and diet coke*

OK - first off, I apologize for my absence, but it is not my fault .... I had issues with my ISP (what else is new) earlier this week and they gifted me a year of their upgraded super-dooper high speed interwebby connection (~50mps download) and I was grateful. The new modem showed up first thing this morning via FedEx (despite the fact that they could not find a tracking # late last night when I called) ... so I installed it and.... wait a minute... first, my phone does not work, and then ....this is actually SLOWER than the speed I was getting before. Long story short (too late) I spent 4 YES 4 farking hours on the phone with tech support trying to resolve this, as usual it's "my router or internal wiring" so I yanked all the cables and ran a home run from their modem to my main CPU... and .... the connection got even slower... (5.9mps download, I may as well have dial-up). Now I have to get up super early (8AM Sunday) to have a tech come and tell me that their wiring is ancient and can not handle the upgrade. Which tech support warned me about, so I have to get the tech's name and ID and report him as a bad guy (they are not allowed to do that).

tigerose: I just wanted to point out that Maine Coons tend to not fully mature until after they are 2 yrs of age.

I didn't think Maine Coons ever really mature. My dorky dumdum is 7 and still immature.

or Not So Good Meowning in  Tardar Sauce's case.

Still haven''t figured out why it seems the UK papers are the ones who pick these tales & tails up, aside from the fact that Brits lurv moggies & goggies.
Am so late due to singing, again.  Was out til late at rehearsal with Lexington chorus once more; they came up to office/works of Aviation Quality Group just south of Cinti Intl Airport, that belongs to bro-in-law of newish member of my chorus.
Tnx all for early postings; greenlight came just about time Plumbicon & I needed to get on road to AQG. We took Anderson Ferry for 1st time in yocks to avoid Interstate rush hr traffic. Round trip auto ticket $3.50 each way, which he took advantage of as he could.  Saved ~26 driving miles each way; but had to go long way to collect me again as ferry stops running at 8PM week-daily.
Fwd to pg 2...

Digging for moggies is almost a lost art, much like truffles.

Thank you, everyone, for the kind words regarding my late Dinah. It gives me a warm fuzzy feeling, knowing that this group understands and empathizes.

BBBB, I am not surprised that another kitty has joined your merry household; you and your family's capacity for love is amazing. I hope shiatake feels right at home ASAP. He's quite the handsome fellow!

You need to get this book http://www.amazon.com/Crafting-Cat-Hair-Cute-Handicrafts/dp/159474525 0

It's full of all sorts of fun stuff you can make out of Biscuit's hair.

RJ-6 quad shielded coax is the standard now. Most cable companies are using this for all new installs, but they're only replacing the old stuff when needed.

sherpa18: 5.9mps download, I may as well have dial-up

I might be persuaded to do evil things for 5.9mps download speed. I'm stuck with 768k down and 128k up.
Mostly because I'm at the very edge of the distance limit from the central office and I won't touch the local Cable company because they act just like yours. I think they all use the same training manual.

Goodnight guys. I'm going to go get a good night's snooze. We're cutting over to the new WLAN at work tomorrow night. I have be there about 8:30pm to prep and make sure everyone knows the plan. Then we flip the switch at midnight and hopefully we'll all be home by 2:30am. Everything should go well...we certainly did enough testing.

We're lighting up 803 access points (up from 212). My goal is not to hear anyone biatching about coverage from now on.

I know this is off topic, but I just got home from the new Evil Dead movie.

If you're interested in seeing it: DO IT.
If you're on the fence: DO IT.

I think this is what they had in mind when they made the original, but the lack of budget made the corniness go through the roof.  This version is... I can't even describe.  This is the first "scary" movie I have seen that was actually fear-inducing.  Most of them were just gory, this one actually gets into your head.

What about the guy using AppleTalk over PhoneNet through a SCSI adapter block?
Where will he plug the antenna???

(PS - Good luck!)
