maynerdkitty I thought you said your son wasn't hurt? What did he do to his shoulder? And Ow! tell him he has my sympathies..I heard somewhere that you aren't a rider until you've fallen off at least 7 times...gads, that mean's I'll be a rider if I fall off 3 more times? I think I'll do without!

I think you are going to have to go out and build him the pen. Especially if his shoulder isnt happy with him. So glad the new kitteh is getting along with you and your crew. Good on your son and daughter in law for bringing him out. Purrhaps they will find a new kitteh in need of a home!

I'm going on a field trip tomorrow..an "underground railroad" experience...it is supposed to rain! Good thing I get to go home after the trip and dry off! :)

tigerose: predle ugh, isn't it time for the snow to go away?? I know I am tired of it here

Not around here, we are in a deep, scary drought. Hay is so expensive that ranchers are having to sell off their stock because they can't afford to feed them, people are having trouble finding hay for their horses.  It would take around 8 feet of snow in the mountains for us to catch up, so any precipitation we can get is welcome, even 1 ft.  Besides this isn't unusual for us, in fact April is our second snowiest month (March is the snowiest).  When the rest of the country was getting dumped on we were getting practically nothing.

So as far as I'm concerned:

A pretty girl indeed. So you are saying Arabs are a wee bit high strung? :)

I'm riding an Appy who is gray with black spots and brown knees..he has a nice headset, and he listens to me for the most part! He is also quite tall, and has very big feet. He is a lesson horse, but I wish he were mine!

He has always had shoulder pain of one sort of another, may be related to marfans syndrome. When he fell he didn't tuck and roll and his shoulder got crunched. I did not know about this until two days later when he told me he had gone to the Dr. He will be OK but he can't lift anything for a while.

Greetings from Mordor!
Been up off and on since 3, finally got up at 5.
Samson decided since I was awake that he should do the happy stomping dance on my head. Daisy decided to help things along by pinning my legs down. Sadie, in turn, picked a fight with Daisy; this got them both evicted from the bed for a few moments.
When all of that ruckus didn't work, they brought in The Big Guns...aka Lola Marie. She sat in my lap at purred at me while I drank my coffee.

I should know how Mom's doing around 11:30 - noonish today. Hoping they give her some good meds to keep the pain at bay.

Buddy update:  Our baby boy seems to have recovered just fine from his little trip to the dentist last week.  He has almost forgiven me for forcibly squirting horrible shiat-tasting antibiotics down his throat as a precautionary measure twice a day for five days, and for my being a wound-up worrywart.  He's still not thrilled about crunchy treats, but will eat them if I break them into tiny pieces.  He's still not thrilled about his regular food either, but we noticed that he has no problem getting excited about people food.  The obvious smacked us upside the head.  Maybe he was just getting sick of the old food and perhaps would like to try something different?  So simple it just might work?  Spent an afternoon doing dog food research online, then off to the pet food store!

I dreaded experimenting with new food, but much to my surprise we found a couple things that he actually likes, almost right away!  And seem to agree with him so far!  He will eat all his meals without delay when combined with either "savory chicken stew" or "organic New Zealand lamb tripe" (only one of which I can dish up without gagging, guess which one, lol)!  Who knew?  Hopefully the novelty won't wear off anytime soon.  He seemed to feel quite good earlier today, he told off the neighbour's cat, and got goofy & playful after supper, both of which he hasn't done in a while.  Our sweet little old fart has some life left in him yet!  Thanks again for all the good wishes last Caturday, I think they really helped.  He still seems a little tired and slow, but he is looking happier now, and that's a very good start.  :)

Sending hugs and love and healing wishes to all the other kitties and humans needing them this Caturday... seems like quite a few this week... huge long thread and I can't remember all the ...

Buddy!  Awww!  He is just so darned adorable!  I am so glad that the little cutie pie is feeling better and it sounds like you are definitely doing the right thing with the new foods.  I don't think I could stomach the "tripe" thing either.

The weather icon on my homepage shows 92 and cloudy tomorrow. I hate being cold but I will have to invest in an air conditioner at some point this summer.
And I got pictures of my new kitty!
Meet Max:
[farm9.staticflickr.com image 500x282]
He was my son and daughter in laws cat. My son convinced her to adopt a kitty so they found one that a family could no longer keep. He came from a house that had more than one kitty and he is declawed. they think he is about 15.
The kids thought he was just old and sweet as he would lay around and be a cuddle bug. When I moved in with my kitties he changed. He began to jump and run and play with them. He would get high with Li-Ion and he taught Tom to sit with people and cuddle. When I moved out to the farm with my kitties he walked around crying and looking for his friends.
My daughter in law cried when she saw how sad he was, and after a week. they came out to visit and brought Max with them. He seems happy enough now but is wary of Fiona. Tom and Li-Ion are cool with the dog so I am sure Max will be too. Although Fiona keeps trying to sniff the new kitty and it keeps moving. she is not really chasing him but I toss her outside when it happens. She will learn to ignore the new kitty just to stay in the house.

Max is a handsome guy!  That is so sweet that your son and Daughter in law did what was best for him.  It sounds like a good fit and will keep him happy too.

akimbotoo Yep, would not be able to do the tripe thing either..eww! I feed Eli the Friskies Prime Fillet because a)he likes it. b)it doesn't make me want to hurl when I open the can..c)I can get the 24 can box at the local pet store. Saves me from having to apologize to him for no gooshie food...

Speaking of gooshie fud..anyone know of a brand called Sheba? I got a freebie sample in the mail. One of  those small cans...Eli ate it..I was thinking for when we go on vacation, that way there would not be any "old" food around...

I used to feed Dinah Sheba canned food eons ago; I did a quick search, and Wikipedia states that it's made by Mars, Inc. (yes, the candy bar people) and was discontinued in 2011. Now it's available again in Walmart - which would scare me a little bit. It's most likely being made in China! Mars also owns Nutro, Greenies, Royal Canin, Whiskas, and the Banfield Pet Hospitals.

I've been feeding my cats Wellness canned food a a while now. It's the first food that, when I opened it, I thought "that smells tasty!" as opposed to "yuck, how can they eat this crap?" to myself. But it is pricey. Petco has the 12 oz. cans that can last a few days. YMMV.

Anyway, Eli will be feeding himself the chipmunks again soon, won't he?  ;-)

maynerdkitty: She is beautiful, I love a flea bit grey. I have never been fond of Arabs though, they are pretty to look at but I don't seem to get along with any that I have met. Not sure why.

In defense of Arabs, they are the sweetest horses, very personable. They can bond with people like a dog, she would come running over to see me.  She was an amazing trail horse and her endurance was great, she could go all day with no problems at all.  That picture is from a NATRC competitive trail ride, we placed 2nd in our 5 state region that year. But, should one of those horse eating plastic bags from hell (or Safeway) flutter nearby, every bit of sense just went flying out of that pretty little head.

My Quarter Horse, on the other hand, was never bothered by anything, but she had the personality of a fence post and her biggest goal in life was to avoid work of any type, which included running away when she saw me coming and once I got on her back trying to go under every low hanging branch and smacking my leg into anything she could find. Most of my falls are from her, but I rode bare back and I was young so I just bounced right up. A horse's back is really slippery when it's wet and it can be tough to stay on when you're climbing out of the water hole.

It's pretty unlikely, but if I can ever get another horse I think I'll get 1/2 Arab 1/2 Quarter Horse. I've known several and it's a great combination.

Can't wait to snuggle up with the Sneaker and start editing all of these papers. The students graduate on April 27, so the first early-birds have their final thesis papers in for final comments this week. It means a lot of reading for me, and that always goes better with a furbaby beside me.

Trying to wrap up filing my federal taxes. Gods, what a pain.Wading through all the legalese on the various forms trying to figure out terms that are clear to the IRS but totally not clear to me... *sigh*
