tigerose: Well, back frm my husband's Uncle's memorial service. Very short and upbeat. My father in law is supposed to visit with my bro-in law. *sigh* my father inlaw did not know me. And he just looked so bewildered. I hope he remembers my son. They used to be best buds.

I'm de-lurking briefly, because I've seen this a lot (have been a nurse in a nursing home). If FIL has Alzheimer's he may still have older memories. If he doesn't recognize your son, but remembers him as a child, your son may still be able to connect with him by asking about stories if when he (son) was a kid. I've seen this in action, and it tends to make the kid feel less rejected, as well as giving FIL something to talk about.

I don't understand what is going on with FARK and what I'm writing, but it keeps correcting me after I post and I'm at eye bleed levels because of it.  Anyway, new kitteh is S-H-I-I-T-A-K-E, not shiatake, that for some reason keeps showing up.  And he's still hiding under the stairs, but going to try some chicken here soon and coax him out.

It's because it looks like sh*t to the auto correct. I was WONDERING why you spelled it that way!! Thought it was on purpose! And make sure it's cooked chicken!!! :D

The Ice Queen: Another successful spay & neuter day. The sad thing was just about every adult female was in heat or coming out of heat. At least they won't have to worry about that anymore.

On a side note, we decided Angry Uteri would be an awesome name for a punk band.

Yay!

sorry. It got to about 54 today...after raining all morning. Glad I got the lawn mowed yesterday! Was windy here, too.

I dealt with this with my great grandmother.  After a while, I just decided that whoever she thought I was when I visited was the person I tried to be.  It made me feel better that I knew it was making her happy.  Near the end, she thought I was her daughter so I talked to my grandmother to get stories and memories she would remember so I could make her happy.  It was hard but it seemed like the right thing to do.  Maybe your son can do something similar.  It's still hard but at least you feel better knowing you're making someone happy.

laulaja: Hardly looks right -- last prior post at literally 0dark30 (2:30AM)?

Well, I was up late, and apparently I was the only one, so I didn't wanna just fill up empty "space" with silly things just to fill the void. One of the few downsides to being on my husband's late-swing-shift schedule. :)

professional_vampire: Poor little Cracker Jack. He still doesn't trust hubby or me, because we took him to the vet yesterday. He's fine with us when we're sitting or lying down, but when we're standing up he gives us this "are you going to put me in that carrier again" look.

On the plus side, he's eating, drinking and using the litterbox like a healthy kitteh should.

Sonny did the exact same thing to me for the first two days after I got him here. Every time he heard the door open he bolted under the bed, and gave me the hairy eyeball when I reached over to pet him.

yobbery: The wireless cut over last night could not have gone better. We shut down the old at 11:55pm and all devices were online with the new system by 12:05am. We quickly canvased the hospital checking coverage, then just sat around munching snacks while waiting for trouble calls that never came. I was home and in bed by 4:00am.

It has been an absolutely brutal 12 weeks. I'm having fun this morning reading all the empty congratulatory emails from the suits in the ivory tower. They set this timeline to cover their own asses (long story) knowing we has one single chance in hell of pulling it off. As of this morning they can all kiss my ass.

I never want to do this again.

*Techie brofist.* I'm training to basically do that sort of thing, and while I love the class, I do not look forward to working under pointy-haired bosses who think that the internet is a series of tubes. Great job, man, when I saw your post before you went off to work I knew that if it went off, the suits would get all the credit, but if it went pear-shaped, you guys would be blamed. *Rolls eyes.*

For those of you that crave sweets......

Ha! That reminds me of the chocolate crosses and other "Jesus-sweets" I saw at the store before Easter. I had a bit of a double-take, and I'm genuinely not sure if that's a nifty idea or if it's blasphemy of some kind. I should've taken a picture, it genuinely made me laugh. :)

Brian Blessed's Bastard Boy: Thank you for that.  I know it's something that will always be here, and I never know when it will hit hard.  I tried explaining to the wife about it when it got really bad and I was talking to two different doctors over the course of two years about it.  I told her it was like fighting a ghost.  You know it's there, but you just can't see it or fight it.  She didn't really understand until last year when we went through our surgical issues.  She finally looked at me one day when she got done with therapy and told me she finally understood what I meant.

This. I only had a small case of "meh, sucks to be me" for a few months, but real depression is mean stuff, and needs to be taken seriously. The person who draws Hyperbole and a Half did a great comic/blog about it, and hits that nail right on the head. To me, what's really scary about it is that you know that there's something not quite right (not "wrong," but not quite "right"), but you can't really quantify or do anything about it. I like your term, a "ghost" that just follows you around, going "not touching you, not tooooouching youuuuuuu," but you can't do fark-all against it.

A couple of months ago I was getting a bit sad about things, and I kept telling myself, "why are you sad? You've got a great husband, adorable kitties, a good military career, you're healthy, so quit feeling sorry for yourself and get off your ass. You're feeling worse? What the hell, quit being stupid, things aren't great, but they're not awful! Argh, you're feeling worse, what is wrong with you? Just shut up and go do something. Why are you crying now? Holy crap you're useless! Just shut up your stupid face and get off of your ass and feel better already! Ugh, now you're feeling worse, you're a waste of time, maybe beer will make you stop being a stupid-face for a while." Repeat on and off for a few weeks. Looking back, I feel like a doofus for it all, but given the circumstances it wasn't unreasonable, and I just didn't have a healthy outlet, I just kept bottling things up. I think I understand a little of where people with depression are coming from, and hope that they get the help/resolution that they need. *Big hugs* that you're on the other side of it and have an awesome home and family. And here's hoping that shiatake gets settled in (curse you, inevitable filterpwn), at least the other critters are trying to help him feel welcome. :)

Hi.. just got back from a service call... biig ol' country house about 1/2 hr away.. owners just got back from a week out of town and the house was 50 degrees inside, and nothing worked... got him to check a few things.. based on what he told me, I grabbed some parts and headed out.. bad low voltage transformer.. caused by a rodent chewing through a control wire.. new transformer has a circuit breaker built in... it will take at least a day to warm everything up.. I suggested throwing on extra blankets tonight and opening windows tomorrow, as it will be 80 .. save some fuel...house is 4 floors, one underground.. and a 'widow,s walk' on the roof....circular staircase goes all the way up...
