Needed note I didn't make to offer good wishes & best Caturday luck to Cracker Jack on his vet visit. professional_vampire too,  as she typed earlier that he didn't wanna go there.   Maybe better later than not, leastways this time.

Alien: I for one am delighted that you are chatty and sharing. I love your stories and am glad that The Dandelion is popping back up. Gremlin has turned into a handsome cat.

My Gremie is like that. Every time I move a piece of furniture he has to climb up and check things out from the new location. If I bring in a new piece of furniture it becomes his new favorite spot for a few weeks, then he goes back to his regular spots.

baka-san: I swear Zenwitch is ruining my wonderfully evil Pogo

baka-san!
Good to see ya...you (and Zenwitch and Pogo) have been missed!

GoldSpider: So I decided this past week that this house is far too quiet without the pitter-patter of a kitter-cat, and put in an application to adopt an 8 month old kitten from a local rescue organization.  Is it considered bad luck/form to post pictures of him and start thinking about names before I actually have him?

Not bad luck as such...but (IMHO and YMMV) if you pay attention, he'll 'tell' you what his name is. All mine did, at any rate. It may take a few days, but you needn't be in a hurry.
I've found that 'kid' or 'little guy/girl' work as a stop-gap. They seem to know that you're addressing them.

professional_vampire: Hai, Caturday folks! Need some good thoughts, vibes, prayers etc. for my Cracker Jack. He just puked twice then went to the litterbox, got out of the litterbox and peed on the rug in front of the tub, then when he finished, we noticed that he has blood in his urine. Taking him to the vet ASAP. Hope it's nothing serious!

Had similar with Dinky.. turned out to be dietary.. my sainted vet put her on Hills prescription Bladder Control dry food.. done deal.... regular dry food was causing crystals in her bladder....

Well, I am back from the college visit with my son. Wow, it is a really small school. Very British Boarding school feel to it. Everyone was super, super friendly. You could ask anyone pretty much about anything. I can see my kid going there. Very small classes..think 16? in some. Biggest class would be 25.

When I got home, Eli was outside by the side door rolling in dirt. Great cat..just what I want you to drag into the house.

AlienDandelion: guy sits down across from me on skytrain, and proceeds to eat a non sliced loaf of bread. As in just nomming an entire loaf of bread...Bonus: saw this dude twice this week...and eating a loaf of bread each time.

Waaaaaay back in the day, when I was still living in the Depths of California (that's "Los Angeles" to you, Missy!), my housemates were big time stoners. We're talking "will eat two boxes of Fruit Loops on the way to the registers" big time stoners. One of them would do stuff like that. I couldn't let him try any of my experimental loaves of bread because it wouldn't matter what they tasted like, if it was bread, he'd eat it. I think it was when I finally realized that I also finally realized what a "carbo loader" was and how to deal with them when you don't have much money. (Go to the food bank as they always give you a bag of bread. He'd just eat around any moldy spots. I hope.)

Also, on a strictly Alien-related note, I was looking for a template for something else, and stumbled across these, which made me think of you AND are cookies!

You know I'm going to try something similar to those some time. You'll be first on the list for 'em when I do!

Brian Blessed's Bastard Boy: Day three of shiatake being here, and things are going OK so far.  He's still a little intimidated by Waffles and Scampi, and has been spending his time under the stairs, but he came out last night and crawled into bed with the wife and was begging for tummy scritches.  Looks like the wife not only got her Maine Coon finally, but I'm thinking he is going to attach himself to her.  She was worried that I would be upset about it, but I told her it's a cat, and it will decide who it's master is, not us.  Yes my heart still feels broken, and will be for a while.  If the new cat attaches to her and not me, then as long as he's happy and content, then so am I.  I think he'll be skittish for a while, but that's understandable.  Pirogi is cracking me up in that he and shiatake are kind of bonding.  Under the stairs is Piggy's spot, and I was worried that something might happen, but there haven't been any fights yet, and now Piggy is taking him food by filling his mouth with it, then walking over to the stairs and spitting it out on the floor.  I saw him do this and thought he was getting sick until I saw a paw come out and grab some of it.  Never saw anything like that before and just had to laugh.  As for the other critters, we're more than likely days away from our second brood of bearded dragons.  Sage is beyond pregnant and ready to burst, so they're coming soon.  Papaya is much more active in his cage, so he's adjusted to being here now.  The ferrets are still terrorists, so nothing ever changes with them.  As for me, I'm still healing and miss my boy, but life goes on here, and if you're not paying attention, the furry and scaly things here will run over you.  I'll try and get some pics of shiatake today, but he's still a very shy boy.

I just love that Piggy is taking food to the "new guy"!  I've never heard that before!!!  :D

We've put him in the bedroom for now.  Took a while to get him out from under the stairs, but he'll stay in there for a couple of days, then we'll re-integrate him with everyone else in the house.  He's a very lovely young man, and very personable once he gets over being scared.  Piggy is sniffing at the door, so we'll let him in there as well for a while a little later.

- guy getting on skytrain with a bike. Then he turns around and I noticed a pomeranian strapped to his chest like a baby...
- guy sits down across from me on skytrain, and proceeds to eat a non sliced loaf of bread. As in just nomming an entire loaf of bread...Bonus: saw this dude twice this week...and eating a loaf of bread each time.

What thoughtful, caring children! (You might want to look into donating to Pantene Beautiful Lengths though. Locks of Love does not provide wigs for kids with cancer, they sell the hair to purchase wigs which they then sell at discounted prices to families with kids with permanent hair loss from alopecia. Pantene works with the American cancer Society to provide wigs at no charge.)

AlienDandelion: Also...

Is it a sign that I cannot go to any wards in two different hospitals without hearing:
"Uh oh! Here comes trouble!"
and then watching as both workers AND patients all turn or crane their necks (to see out of their rooms) to
check if it's actually me?

Heh. Maybe that should be telling me something.
I sure love it though when I see patients break into smiles and see them waving at me from their rooms and try to get my attention.
I always make sure to say Hi to everyone and gently joke with them and the staff.

Most of the people I work with don't like it - but I don't care.
The positive reactions from the other hospital staff and especially the patients - speak louder volumes. Even if I may be feeling crappy myself, it always makes me feel good at the end of every shift that I was able to make others smile.

Debby7813: It is with a heavy heart that I tell you, my Caturday friends, of my Dinah's passing into the Summerlands. Her 18 years in this world ended early Wednesday morning, as she was eased out of her old, tired, sick body into the next world. catmandu: Pantene Beautiful Lengths

That's who my son donated his hair to last time. His hair grows very fast, so he can donate every couple years, easy. He's 25 now and has been doing the hair donation thing to some group or another since third or fourth grade. He's a weird shade of red head, like me, but lighter colored than mine, so every time he gets it chopped off the person doing the chopping is either traumatized (Why??? You have beautiful hair!) or excited for the person who is going to get his hair because it is such an unusual shade.

The thing about kids - most of them, anyway - is they have to learn how to be selfish and mean. They usually like to help and feel like they're doing something awesome for someone else. My son is great evidence that empathy and that willingness to help others, even in small ways, carries on into adulthood. So, Brian Blessed's Bastard Boy, your kids are going to grow up to be alright, especially as they are receiving positive reinforcement from you about how to treat other living creatures - cats, "rat things", reptiles and even their fellow humans. Who's the good daddy? WHO'S THE GOOD DADDY?! *pats on head* You are!
