Wow...now that he's de-floofed, you can really see how THICK his coat is! Hope he's more comfortable.

tigerose: I you had a bacon scented candle at your house, who would be trying to eat it? You, your significant other, your teen, the dog or the cat? Or would the neighborhood be knocking on your door?

tigerose...
You have such an incredibly RICH life...not to mention talent!

CSB (and associative memory regarding scent)/

One time my room mate and I harvested a veritable FIELD of catnip (yes, it really was catnip)...we were going to use it (and all these otherwise too-small-to-be-useful scraps of fabric) to make cat toys for some kind of sale or other. Fresh catnip needed dried, so we used the oven to do so (no dehydrator at the time).
House was REDOLENT of that aromatic green smell...and we had nearly a dozen of the neighborhood cats gathered around outside the house...
"Is this where the party is?"

Ahhh...."Bored of the Rings" fan....(peeked at you profile)  !!!  LOVED that book!  Just recently gave it to a co-worker to read. :D  Yeah...I'm old.

LOL
Truly nothing is obscure on Fark. I need to get another copy; someone failed to return my last one.

Love how that 'teaser' of Frito and the elfmaid didn't actually appear ANYWHERE in the book... :-D

You'd probably enjoy Doon by the same authors.
Came out about the same time as the movie "Dune".

Debby7813: It is with a heavy heart that I tell you, my Caturday friends, of my Dinah's passing into the Summerlands. Her 18 years in this world ended early Wednesday morning, as she was eased out of her old, tired, sick body into the next world. My daughter (a vet tech), our favorite kitty doc, another vet tech friend, and I were there to send her on her journey. Fare thee well, my old friend.

Sorrow for your loss...Dinah was a beautiful girl.
Sometimes I wonder if it's a left-hand blessing that we know we will eventually lose them. Helps us to really appreciate the time, love, laughter and companionship with them that we do have.

(Left-hand blessing: When you trip and fall face first in the mud, spraining your ankle...thereby avoiding the low-flying jet that would have otherwise taken your head off.
Hope this doesn't come across as flip...it's not meant to be.)

tigerose: We have an Oppossum problem. There is a huge, possum who I have seen several times in the daytime..bright sun...very unusual. It doesnt look sick..in fact it is stout! Could be a pregnant female...is there a way to discourage to frm roaming my yard. I do not want Eli tackling this marsupial monster!

Wasn't a problem as such...but looked out my window early Wednesday morning to see 3 mule deer strolling down my driveway.
One of them looked at my incipient daffodils with "Mmmm...looks tasty..." expression and I found myself telling it "Don't even THINK about it!"
Looked at me with a "Huh?" expression...and if deer can shrug I swear it would have done so.
It turned and followed its buddies into my backyard (where they are welcome to eat all the weeds they want!).

Riktor, Wimsey and Raven were watching them with great interest. I wonder what the deer must have smelled like to them...they were fascinated by these big critters.
Told them "Forget it, kids...they're too big for you."

OlderGuy: tigerose: We have an Oppossum problem. There is a huge, possum who I have seen several times in the daytime..bright sun...very unusual. It doesnt look sick..in fact it is stout! Could be a pregnant female...is there a way to discourage to frm roaming my yard. I do not want Eli tackling this marsupial monster!

If female, it might be carrying the young in it,s pouch.. when they are born, they are tiny.. and stay in the pouch until they can get around on their own ..mammaries are in the pouch.. had a possum show up in my garage where I used to live.. stood there by my feet looking at me, belly dragging the ground.. figured that she might be looking for a safe place to have her brood.. didn't know about the pouch routine.. found a cardboard box, put some straw and grass clippings in it and put it down in front of her: she climbed in and lay down.. put the box in a corner.. two days later there were 11 babies in there with her.. mini- possums.. with teeth and all.. she stayed there for about three weeks, then moved on... she had the trust.. I would sit down by the box and the babies would crawl out of the box and all over me.. I could pick them up.. mama was totally cool with it...knew she was safe.. if you have a location away from the house where you could give her some privacy and Eli wouldn't go, she'd probably take you up on it....

There is something about the freely-given trust of a wild animal (especially from a Mama critter!)...don't have words to describe it.
And it's NOT that they're unaccustomed to humans so don't consider us/them a threat...it's a CHOICE.
Makes me feel humble to be honored so.

Spinnyr: I just found a whole new folder on Photobucket.
Yeah, I know...Pebcak....
I made this when we were all waiting for Vanna to give birth.

So I decided this past week that this house is far too quiet without the pitter-patter of a kitter-cat, and put in an application to adopt an 8 month old kitten from a local rescue organization.  Is it considered bad luck/form to post pictures of him and start thinking about names before I actually have him?

Li-Ion helped too.
This floor is snap lock like laminate but it is vinyl plank. I mail ordered it, all 2000+ lbs of it. I wanted a floor that was easy care and water resistant since it is going in the whole house, baths and kitchens included.
Even with shipping it was less than the cost of the high end laminates and it is way easier to put together. Less floor prep, no underlay, and just the occasional light tap with a hammer to seat. And it cuts with a score and snap. So much easier than the laminates I have done in the past.

Haven't read the thread yet.  It's been a hell of a week.  Could I have some happy thoughts and love sent to my friends who lost their 5 year old dog, Fender, very unexpectedly on Wednesday?  He got the runs last Friday and it all went downhill from there. Possibly cancer, definitely renal failure. Fender was one of those perpetually happy, easy going dogs who wagged his tail the whole time he was ill. I told them about the Rainbow bridge and that he'd be there with their other dogs who have passed. Thanks y'all :)

This is about all the help I got from Tom, he has been going outside and checking out the farm. Yesterday he rode in the back of the pickup! I was unloading feed and after he got done playing in the empty feed sacks he jumped in the back of the truck. I told Fiona to get in and drove the truck from the barn to the house. Tom rode the whole way, he will do anything his dog does, and more. He was hunting a mole yesterday, I saw him sitting in the same place for over an hour. When I checked to see what he was doing I saw a new mound, it had a hole in the top and Tom was sitting on it with his front leg dangling in the hole up to his shoulder. I think he was expecting to snag it as it went by.

Good for you...your heart knows when it's time!  And no, I don't think it's bad luck at all....I had already decided what Lily would be named before I ever saw her!  Fortunately, her name fits.  I don't know if I ever said this before, but her "legal" name is Miss Lily Mae Von Puss Puss.  She is also known as Fuzzbutt, Butterbutt, and GODDAMIT LILY, depending on the situation. :D

Children's Hospital got it right with pet center recent letter to Enquirer editor
Well done, Children's Hospital, on the ground breaking of the Family Pet Center, whose goal is to reunite sick children with their pets ("Children's to open visiting center for patients" March 29).
Without question, the stress, pain & anxiety of a hospital stay will be reduced by the unconditional love of sloppy kisses by those beautiful animals God created especially for children. We are truly blessed to have such a remarkable hospital in our community. Amy Kerth, Anderson Twp

kevinboehm: I know this is off topic, but I just got home from the new Evil Dead movie.

If you're interested in seeing it: DO IT.
If you're on the fence: DO IT.

I think this is what they had in mind when they made the original, but the lack of budget made the corniness go through the roof.  This version is... I can't even describe.  This is the first "scary" movie I have seen that was actually fear-inducing.  Most of them were just gory, this one actually gets into your head.

I was on the fence about it. If I can scrape the time together, I'll scrape a few friends together and we'll get dressed up in our finest "weirdo aging metalhead/horror flick fans go to the movies" attire. This means backpacks full of snacks and quite possibly an airline bottle or two of refreshing beverages. Cuz that's just the way we stagger roll, dudes.
