ArmednHammered: OlderGuy: Have been working on the computer issue.. believe I have MB problems.. will go off line at random times, drop the browser periodically, and just do weird stuff.. not consistantly.. reboot fixes it... for a while... the other systems are not affected.. got that system shut down.. will be reinstalling the OS on a different HD... process of elimination is happening..  may just spring for a new MB/ i3 processor and go Win7, as XP support gets dropped next year and I can't get IE9 or 10 on XP.. if I can find the drivers I need, it will happen soon..

It could be a memory stick going bad or the MB as you suspect. Most likely a bad solder joint due to lead free solder. A quick way to rule out or prove a MB problem would be to download Damn Small Linux and run it from the CD, it's only 50Mb on disk and it runs from ram so it won't change anything on your hard drive. Just set your CD drive as the first boot option in the BIOS.

The MB in there now is a combo board.. HD,s are SATA, Opticals are IDE, still has an 'A' drive in it...pull the memory periodically and clean the connections.. pin connectors get tarnished after a while.. front USB,s are worn out... running an Antec 430 power supply that is 10 years old.. NO dust bunnies present.. have a 60 lb nitrogen tank here to keep them out... and the cat hair....only issue I have is my Audigy2ZS sound card w/ front panel.. allows me to record whatever I am listening to in WAVE format.. need to find Win7 drivers for that... front panel jacks out coax and optical.. Creative ceased making that years ago.... hate to lose that... has EQ and mixer onboard, plus THX, EAX, and a bunch.... What does your program do?  Is it a diagnostics program?

BLARGH!!!  SHERPA SMASH!!! *takes deep breathe, chugs rum and diet coke*

OK - first off, I apologize for my absence, but it is not my fault .... I had issues with my ISP (what else is new) earlier this week and they gifted me a year of their upgraded super-dooper high speed interwebby connection (~50mps download) and I was grateful. The new modem showed up first thing this morning via FedEx (despite the fact that they could not find a tracking # late last night when I called) ... so I installed it and.... wait a minute... first, my phone does not work, and then ....this is actually SLOWER than the speed I was getting before. Long story short (too late) I spent 4 YES 4 fu(king hours on the phone with tech support trying to resolve this, as usual it's "my router or internal wiring" so I yanked all the cables and ran a home run from their modem to my main CPU... and .... the connection got even slower... (5.9mps download, I may as well have dial-up). Now I have to get up super early (8AM Sunday) to have a tech come and tell me that their wiring is ancient and can not handle the upgrade. Which tech support warned me about, so I have to get the tech's name and ID and report him as a bad guy (they are not allowed to do that).

tigerose: I just wanted to point out that Maine Coons tend to not fully mature until after they are 2 yrs of age. So kitteh may not be "full grown". I think my Punkin got up to 12 lbs. I know she looked huge until you bathed her!

oooh! funny kitteh story! Today at the barn, one of the nicer horse people was telling me that she had shaved her kittehs rump, because of the dingleberries(I gave her that term!). She said the cat loved it, and even started drooling while she was removing the matted hair. So now she says she is going to keep the cat trimmed back there. -This conversation started when we were talking about the horses shedding out, and needing some long hair trimming around the face!

Can you tell I had a good day?

I didn't think Maine Coons ever really mature. My dorky dumdum is 7 and still immature.

or Not So Good Meowning in  Tardar Sauce's case.

Still haven''t figured out why it seems the UK papers are the ones who pick these tales & tails up, aside from the fact that Brits lurv moggies & goggies.
Am so late due to singing, again.  Was out til late at rehearsal with Lexington chorus once more; they came up to office/works of Aviation Quality Group just south of Cinti Intl Airport, that belongs to bro-in-law of newish member of my chorus.
Tnx all for early postings; greenlight came just about time Plumbicon & I needed to get on road to AQG. We took Anderson Ferry for 1st time in yocks to avoid Interstate rush hr traffic. Round trip auto ticket $3.50 each way, which he took advantage of as he could.  Saved ~26 driving miles each way; but had to go long way to collect me again as ferry stops running at 8PM week-daily.
Fwd to pg 2...

Digging for moggies is almost a lost art, much like truffles.

Thank you, everyone, for the kind words regarding my late Dinah. It gives me a warm fuzzy feeling, knowing that this group understands and empathizes.

BBBB, I am not surprised that another kitty has joined your merry household; you and your family's capacity for love is amazing. I hope shiatake feels right at home ASAP. He's quite the handsome fellow!

We have enough fur to make one. That would be creepy...a sweater made of his own fur.

Yeah, I can see myself explaining that one to the surgeon. ;-p

You need to get this book http://www.amazon.com/Crafting-Cat-Hair-Cute-Handicrafts/dp/159474525 0

It's full of all sorts of fun stuff you can make out of Biscuit's hair.

RJ-6 quad shielded coax is the standard now. Most cable companies are using this for all new installs, but they're only replacing the old stuff when needed.

sherpa18: 5.9mps download, I may as well have dial-up

I might be persuaded to do evil things for 5.9mps download speed. I'm stuck with 768k down and 128k up.
Mostly because I'm at the very edge of the distance limit from the central office and I won't touch the local Cable company because they act just like yours. I think they all use the same training manual.

Goodnight guys. I'm going to go get a good night's snooze. We're cutting over to the new WLAN at work tomorrow night. I have be there about 8:30pm to prep and make sure everyone knows the plan. Then we flip the switch at midnight and hopefully we'll all be home by 2:30am. Everything should go well...we certainly did enough testing.

We're lighting up 803 access points (up from 212). My goal is not to hear anyone biatching about coverage from now on.

I know this is off topic, but I just got home from the new Evil Dead movie.

If you're interested in seeing it: DO IT.
If you're on the fence: DO IT.

I think this is what they had in mind when they made the original, but the lack of budget made the corniness go through the roof.  This version is... I can't even describe.  This is the first "scary" movie I have seen that was actually fear-inducing.  Most of them were just gory, this one actually gets into your head.

What about the guy using AppleTalk over PhoneNet through a SCSI adapter block?
Where will he plug the antenna???

(PS - Good luck!)
