skullkrusher: Mrtraveler01: Silly Jesus: Mrtraveler01: toddism: most people are idiots and/or grossly uninformed and should not be allowed to vote.

do you really want the guy or gal serving burgers at the braves game voting?  do you really want honey booboo's sperm donor or mom voting? the answer is no.

That's Silly Jesus's shtick. Get your own copycat!

Actually, there are a lot of people who see the value in an informed and intelligent electorate.  Such people are just rare on Fark.

C'mon, can't you guys come up with something more original? This material is stale.

stale jokes? On MY Fark? That's it, Drew. Last straw!

Would also accept "I'm shocked I tell you, simply shocked!"

Silly Jesus: Actually, there are a lot of people who see the value in an informed and intelligent electorate would like to selectively ignore the constitution and take a huge shiat on voter rights.

so the president controls the elections now.

cool.

So it's an advisory commission that analyzes election practices, but has no actual enforcement power?

Will the throat-slitting by 0bama jackboots ever end?

The second part of his plan is repealing the 22nd amendment.

I'm sure they would be exactly as successful as the times Republicans suggested repealing the 22nd Amendment... but they aren't suggesting it.

Silly Jesus: let me ask you this, do you think you should be allowed to vote?

Of course we need uniformed and unintelligent people making decisions that impact all of society. Hurr durr.

Silly Jesus, i even believe that you should be able to vote.
AND im gonna put your comment on the fridge so everyone can see how gold star worthy your work is.

Opiate of the Lasses: Easy.

1. Make Election Day a Saturday or make Election Tuesday a quadrennial holiday.
2. Remove control of polling station hours/locations from the parties/partisan hacks.
2.5. Ban 8-page ballots
3. Wipe hands on pants.

FTFY.  That right there would have fixed Florida's 4-6 hour wait times.

/We had a 1.5 page ballot.   Took about 10 minutes to fill out, which combined with 8 booths meant that we moved at about 1 person every minute and a half.  At our very, very worst, we had an hour line when we opened, and once we worked that out (at about 10:00 or so), we had no line after that.

Why mess with the one aspect of elections that states do well?

It's not that he's circumventing the constitution. It's just that the Executive Branch has the Constitutional authority to execute the law and he's actually acting to do that.

Enough of that and people will start asking what the Constitutional role of the Legislative Branch is. Right now they have people believing that all they're responsible for is opposing Obama. What if they find out that Congress is supposed to actually enact laws?

Elections are the responsibility of the state and local governments, not Big Brother Barry.  This is a further break down of the limited federal governments role in the constitution.

Some countries have had new elections after gaps between exit polls and official results as wide as the one in Ohio was in 2004.

The Commission shall be composed of not more than nine members appointed by the President.   I just love it when he  creates jobs that don't need approval from or are held accountable to no one else but him.

Yeah, you're a dumb dumb. Sorry dumb dumb, you don't get to decide who is "informed" based upon some arbitrary standards as that is in direct conflict with the rights granted to us by the constitution.

Now go be dumb somewhere else.

It is a commission that makes suggestions about how to make voting more inclusive.

Was there an amendment I missed that disallows the president from asking people to make suggestions?

No, make it an annual holiday.  Midterms are important too, and municipalities can use the off years for local elections.

The fact that you're here calling a panel with no real power, only the ability to compile best practices and make recommendations, "a further break down of the limited federal governments role in the constitution."

Have you not been paying attention to what this man is doing?  Every move is a preparation for another more serious one.   No real power?  They are going to hold meetings telling people what they need to do.  The states were supposed to elect the Senate and President in the first place. It won't be long until this panel comes to a conclusion that there needs to be a cabinet level position overseeing federal elections.  Fine, I will hold future judgement of this until the report from this panel comes out two weeks after the 2014 elections.  Then the panel will disband 30 days after the report is issued.   If it is ever officially issued.

Black man in the White House, everybody! Better run!

Race card nonsense didn't take long.  Good job.

Because advocating a form of poll tax/eligibility test has no basis in race at all.

Not unless you think that one race is smarter than another.  I'm advocating a standard of intellect / knowledge.  You aren't suggesting that one race is smarter than the other, are you?

I'm suggesting that such a thing has inherently racist roots. We got rid of them because they are discriminatory. They still are. If they were such a bad idea that they needed to be farking outlawed, they are still that bad an idea. Someone, such as yourself, suggesting that such a 'test' would be a good idea is the kind of thinking that leads us back to the 'good ol days'. We don't need that kind of thinking in America. Go fark yourself.

What's beautiful is that Obama ran against the Bush administration's power grab and he won. By winning the election he inherited all that power. Now that Obama is in office he is making his own power grab. Whomever wins the next election will be that much more powerful a president regardless of party affiliation. I'm all for it. I prefer a much more powerful executive branch.

Facts, logic, and paying even a little attention is just not important to some people. Actually, for some people, I think those things are highly frowned upon.
