Sort of stretches the definition a bit, doesn't it?

MaxxLarge: Sort of stretches the definition a bit, doesn't it?

To be fair, it's constructed mostly of debris from Sandy, so it's not exactly like they could make something extremely structurally sound. It's more of a tree gazebo.

It's giving me a woody

2013-04-04 01:55:30 PM
Unless it's in a tree you can't call it a tree house. By this definition I live in a tree house too, my house has wood in it.

Pretty cool in the same way that girls featured in the Daily Mail are pretty hot.

It's like the mullet equivalent of the treehouse world - short and well-groomed in the center, and unkempt phoned-in redneck chaos in the periphery

Isn't it rumored that George Washington chewed his food with a treehouse?

I'd go with hot.  As in, the best use of that thing is to torch it and have a biatchin bonfire.

Submitter is wrong. This is neither a tree house nor is it even remotely cool.

fark it looks like they just nailed up a bunch of shiatty wood at a stupid angle all around a gazebo.

Builder fail.

Sorry submitter, I don't blame you, well not a lot at least... but this is just ugh.

I think "giant bird nest for homeless people" is more accurate than "tree house."

Did they hire a bunch of homeless people for a bottle of Night Train per day to build that?

Best case scenario, someone accidentally burns it down trying to smoke meth in it.

From an OHS/liability angle, I can see a lot of dangerous pointy wooden spikes sticking out all over the place.

It will have to come with a sign saying "Do Not Climb."

We had an awesome thing built.  It wasn't quite a treehouse but a series of platforms.  There were four perfect trees.  I think they were douglass firs and well over 100 feet high.  It was weird but they were equally spaced and grew straight.  Before I was born someone had built a frame of 2x4's and nailed marine plywood onto it and screwed it into the trees about 10 feet up with a square of plywood cut out of the corner and 2x4's screwed into the tree as a ladder.  By the time I was a teen in the 80's it gained 4 more platforms each 10 feet higher.  By the time I left it had 9 total.  When you were standing on the top platform and the wind was blowing good it would scare the crap out of you.  I wonder if it is still there.  It used to be quite the party place.

Tree house needs a roof. Or it's just a platform.
It needs to be in a tree, supported by a tree, or it's just a pile of lumber.

Best I ever built was wove out of a live willow and a bunch of other willow branches I'd collected.

We wanted a treehouse when I was a kid (after seeing an old Donald Duck cartoon where his nephews had
a wicked cool one), but we had no trees in our yard capable of supporting one, so my father build a basic
platform with wooden beams.  It was a good 7-8 feet off the ground, and stood for many years and gave us
many hours of enjoyment.

So I biteth my thumb at the hipster douchebags at The Gothamist.

Phonehenge was cooler. Shame they made that guy tear it all down.

Roderick Romero (The guy that built the treehouse) was the co-founder of Seattle great "Sky Cries Mary".  He's built some amazing stuff in the past, and made life changing music.  He gets a pass on anything he does that isn't amazing just for reasons.

So many things to say...

Ewoks, Wookies, Elves, The Navi, and Tarzan all are completely unimpressed.  (There are plenty of others that aren't fictional)

That is a house made of trees.  Not a treehouse.

Somewhere in the world (I forget where), they built a huge goat out of straw.  Every year, someone burns it to the ground.  They've actually gotten to a point where they just let it happen, because it's inevitable, and people kinda find it entertaining.   So, maybe we can create an annual event like that here.

David Brees is a making fun of hipster douchebags that do "artisanal crap". I bought my dad How to Sharpen Pencils: A Practical & Theoretical Treatise on the Artisanal Craft of Pencil Sharpening for Writers, Artists, Contractors, Flange Turners, Anglesmiths, & Civil Servants for Christmas. It is farking hilarious.
