The charges against Mr. Stevenson came two days after a top lawmaker in Albany, Malcolm A. Smith was arrested that involved a plot to buy a spot on the ballot in this year's race for mayor of New York City. A city councilman, Daniel J. Halloran III, along with leaders of the Republican Party in the Bronx and Queens, were also charged in that case.

Yeah, I like how links to this scandal have been submitted about 50 times in the past week, yet it took a headline making fun of the Democrats to actually get it greened.

New Jersey needs to pick up the pace too! We got a bunch of Rabbis arrested along with the politicians, so we need some new fresh bodies being hauled away by FBI agents! I got it, Catholic Bishops and Cardinals on the child molestation coverups!

And how many Republican politicians have been arrested, tried, and convicted from election fraud?

Anyone? Anyone? Politicians. and not their employees. Did Bachmann ever pay her employees who were not allowed to talk about her election fraud?

Or Republicans in Congress who, according to the anti-terrorist laws, are officially members of al qaeda?

Isitoveryet: hey, at least the FBI is earning their pay, wish i could say the same for Congress.

It's actually kind of funny really.  During the Bush administration, there was a massive re-purposing of bureau resources away from finacial crimes investigations and into two main buckets : counter-terrorism (for obvious reasons) and Political corruption investigations.  The latter was done at Rove's behest as part of his overall plan to polticize the DOJ and use it as a weapon against the Democrats.  The GOP was convinced the Dems were WAY more corrupt then they were and they could use the DOJ to take out a lot of entrenched Democratic polticians.   This was the reason Patrick Fitzgerlad got appointed US attorney for the district that incuded Chicago:  He was a known CRUSADER against public corruption, so they figured he cut through Daley's machine like a knife through hot butter.  The Irony was, his first big takedown in the state was the Republican adminstration of then Gov Ryan, including the gov himself.  And that's more or less how the push has played out nationwide:  There have been at least as many prosecutions of Republican officals as Democrats.  Corruption, it seems, is a strictly bi-partisan sport

I should clarify my comment.  Subby's headline said "two more assemblymen."  The first arrest I read about was Malcolm Smith, a State Senator, which is not to be confused with being a US Senator.

For trolls, your comment would be valid, but it's not.  When I could, I would vote for the Democratic candidate for my state legislative districts including this past election:  the first time since I reached voting age that the Democratic Party actually bothered to field candidates against both the incumbent State Senator and the incumbent State Assemblyman in the districts that covered where I was living at the time.

TFA did say that there was "a second, unidentified assemblyman ... charged in a sealed indictment".  I suppose that odds are that random assemblyman is a Democrat since they hold a majority in the Assembly, but that's not as good of a bet in light of the nature of the scheme in question.

This is what I get for refusing to click on Fox Propaganda Network links.  I did, however read an article in the [Albany] Times Union about Assemblyman Stevenson's arrest in addition to four more arrests related to Stevenson's bribery scheme, and then a second Assemblyman (which I forgot about it), Nelson Castro (identified as a Democrat by the Times Union) expected to resign after cooperating with law enforcement after being caught taking his own bribes.

Also, I know that the Democrats have a majority in the State Assembly, but don't get me started on the New York State Senate.

I agree. Now, where do we find a lawmaker/congressman willing to write that bill?
