Bill Gates, like Steve Jobs, actually seems a lot cooler in retirement.

That's a pretty half-assed attempt at recreating a photo....they didn't even pretend to stand/sit in the same poses or arrange the computers the same way.  Good day, sir!

Bill totally looks like my dad now, even down to the Eddie Bauer-ish fleece.

He probably went through a Snapple drinking phase too.

I agree ... even if you are being sarcastic. I don't care about their poses that much. But they went to all that trouble to gather these ancient computers and then they don't bother spending 5 minutes to stage them and frame the picture the same?

Hell ... if they just shot wider they could have cropped it to be closer to the original.

I'm embarrassed to admit how many of those machines I programmed for.

Did they recreate it using Windows 8? I'm not going to look at it if they did because I hate Windows 8.

Thumbs up if you agree!

Good lord, is there a Snapple drinking phase? Having a prostate exam isn't bad enough, there's a Snapple drinking phase?

Getting old sucks.

actually went to that museum before it was a real museum.  Kind of cool in the back of a computer shop.  Took about 5 minutes to walk through back then.

It's one of the first phases from what I can tell.  You'll know it's coming soon when you begin to realize your warddrobe hasn't changed in over 10 years.  And I don't mean just your style, I mean literally all the shirts and pants and shoes and jackets and hats you are wearing are all at least 10 years old.

They should've posed next to today's PCs/all in ones as a testament to how the PCs evolved from the massive clunkers that they were in the 80s to the sleeker machines that they are now.

I totally missed your implication.

So, you're not an Apple fanboi, you're just sick.

I guess I can deal with that better.

I remember using that type on Pet machine in elementary school. It was in the math lab. They had another version with an even smaller screen and it was made from a solid ton of metal at least. Off my lawn!

That is indeed a Personal Electronic Transactor, model 2001, looks like.

I'm guessing there's eight entire kilobytes of random access memory in that forty-pound chunk of radio frequency interference shielding.

Good times.

CSB: first IT paycheck I ever pulled down was for a contract programming job on a PET. Local company needed an application to calculate and print export tariffs for shipments. The managing director was friends with the dad of a kid I was at school with (or something) and so they lent me the equipment and paid me to write the thing for them.

My application was, of course, complete crap. Oh, it worked fine for a couple of weeks, but as the database of products and tariffs got bigger, the program got exponentially slower, mainly due to the pants-on-head-bad insertion sort algorithm I had crafted. By that time, fortunately, I had disappeared off to college. They ended up paying somebody who actually had a clue to rewrite it for them.

/Ah, good times.
