How farked up is that a bunch of cops storm the house of an innocent family, can't find drugs, obviously have no warrant or no need to be there and the case takes 5 years to get figured out?

Either the NYPD break into way too many homes without warrants or they are so corrupt that they can't figure out which of their own did it in a timely fashion.

Omg, he was but the people he was with when they were "searching" that person's house were not cops. They were members of a gang dressed up as cops, so no at that time he was not acting as a police officer. Hence, no warrant and not investigation.

From the perspective of their victims, I'm sure they couldn't tell the difference between this armed gang of lawless thugs and the NYPD.

One of the gang was Officer Emmanuel Tavarez, also a cop.  It's unclear from the article if any of the remainder were.

Current or former member of the NYPD does not matter if you're in the process of robbing someone. They were not there on official business, that's why they didn't need a warrant. BECAUSE THEY WERE ROBBING THEM NOT SEIZING DRUGS

It matters.  Civilians go to jail.  Officers get asked not to do the same thing wrong again.

The surprise I feel is killing me... wait no, just gas.

Does this surprise ANYONE other than the fact they got caught? I mean sure, normally the entire crew are cops so this guy didn't feel like sharing with his buddies and so he got caught... cops don't like competition when it comes to committing crime.

Tavarez, a former eight-year veteran and onetime major league baseball prospect, was sentenced to 25 years in prison last May.

Which is what happened if you read the article

Um, the commissioner didn't get a cut and they left the dealers free so they could re-rob them later?
It's cheaper for the taxpayer and more profitable for the cops this way.

Remind me again how this is any different than every other cop in New York?

So wait. It's illegal for a cop to be a cop? I'm confused.
