Meatybrain: I don't buy it. MOST small businesses fail. Pretending they want to make sure it doesn't happen to pot shops? Cripes, even I can't get stoned enough to believe that.

All i am saying is that if most small businesses fail, how commensurately worse is it going to be when the small business owners cannot get loans, insurance is very difficult to obtain, and the suite of federal benefits that normally go towards fostering such business are out of reach because it turns out the business is illegal?

At least this may be the lip service reason, but it makes some sense.

snocone: I see a future where there may be decriminalization, but the War on Drugs will continue unabated, just shifted to an ATF game plan of repression and
protection of the profiteers who paid for it. You can make your own beer, but the good stuff, is NOT FOR YOU!
FTA:  ""People need to start thinking about this like Big Tobacco, and realize that there's a very powerful industry here, who are going to do what they need to do to protect those interests,"

Meet the New Boss, same same as the Old Boss.

What I brew IS "the good stuff," as will be what I grow.

MA politics is a joke. The only people who don't realize it are driving cars covered in stickers supporting "x candidate".Every politician from this state has a checkered past and it has always been this way.It should surprise no one that they are lining up to fill their pockets.Nice to see they take the time to act when money is to be made.It would be nice if MA took time to you know clean up all the state run orgs but there is no money in that.

the communist UN hates marijuana & is applying pressure to keep it illegal as it is the cure for cancer, which would hamper the elitetards plans to accomplish agenda 21 through gmo cancer!

This is just the free market at work, people. If you can't afford to buy laws that are advantageous to you and limit your competition, that's not my fault. Government's only role in true free-market capitalism is to protect the interests of those who can afford to hire the best lobbyists. Anything else is a job-killing regulation and evil socialism. You don't want to be a dirty socialist, do you? I didn't think so.

Big Tobacco has been prepared for pot legalization for a very long time. Hell, when I was in college I saw a documentary detailing exactly how they were going to process and market it, and that was 20 years ago.

That being said, the $500k in escrow is just another roadblock set up by politicians to keep it from happening.

And as many have said, the black market for it will continue to exist, with all the unfortunate crime-related prosecutions and related suckiness.

Sybarite: The state proposed rules - which prohibit convicted drug dealers from owning or working at a state-licensed dispensary

Well there go most of your qualified applicants.

Why do you think most dealers have been convicted?

"Good Stuff" requires distillation, not brewing.
Talking coin of the realm here.

Barter, can you spell that without any "r"s?
