Same here.  Also started House of Cards, which I just found out was originally a BBC series from the 90s.  And Netflix is streaming it.

HOC was produced in-house at Netflix, and released all at once. They have another original series called Hemlock Grove and it will be released in full on 4/19.

thismomentinblackhistory:  Yes, I thought HOC was orininal to Netflix, but it's not.  BBC did a version, here's the plot summary from IMDB:

Francis Urquhart is the chief whip of the Conservative party. When Margaret Thatcher resigns as leader, he remains neutral and after a general election where the conservatives are returned with a reduced majority, he fully expects the new Prime Minister, Henry Collingridge, to give him his just reward: a senior Cabinet post. When he's informed that he is to stay in his current position, he devises a plot to unseat Collingridge and ensure his own election as party leader which would make his Prime Minister.

BBC version is also based off of the book by M. Dobbs.

Lillyhammer was really good. The sort of show that wouldn't fly on networks, but works like a charm.

I wonder if there will be an in-joke about that (similar to Season 2, where "they cut back the order [on houses] from 22 to 18", mirroring that the execs cut 4 eps from the original order of Season 2). The execs also did it to Season 3, but I don't think there was a call out.

// NO TOUCHING

AnotherBluesStringer: Don't forget Lilyhammer.

Solid start, went to "standard TV series trope-bsaed crap" by episode 3. Thumbs down (unless they have since moved away from that).

I have a small stack of those somewhere that I made up on a slow day back when I used to work at Kinkos.  I looked up a screen grab and re-created it as closely as I could.  I did a pretty good job, if I do say so myself.

/ got some funny looks from one of my co-workers who wasn't familiar with the show

AD had a good pair of seasons, but wasn't quite as funny toward the end.  Maybe it was because of the impending cancellation, but who knows?  I think of AD much as in the same way I do about Firefly.  It was good while it lasted, but damn, people, give it a rest.

Lots of references to the standard Netflix recommendations...apparently a lot of people are missing out on the greatness of Wallander.

I would like to propose that the best part of Arrested Development is Jeffrey Tambor. If you want to see some of his best work, watch The Larry Sanders Show.

Jeez, he HAS been busy since then. I looked at his IMDB and he must have a lot of kids or lots of divorces because he has been working a lot.

Anyways, his Hank Kingsley was amazing. The writing was excellent for his character but he did wonderful job with the material.

"What Have You Done for Me Lately?" is probably one of the best episodes for Jeffrey Tambor's character.

/that was shot 20 years ago....aaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I think Netflix is doing something very smart after abandoning their "no original material" BS. They can create niche programming for their subscribers then distribute it out to broadcasters and cable. They reversed the money flow. And you can always find a few million people who want to watch stuff like Arrested Development.

Look at how many people are excited about the return of Whose Line? Netflix should have grabbed that franchise and kept churning it out. Then sold the programming to other media sources. I believe the originals are still airing on ABCFamily.

I'll have to agree.

The Charlie Brown Christmas "Christmastime Is Here" instrumental scene with everyone moping around killed me.  It just came outta nowhere and I was dying.

Yeah, a lot of stuff seemed new to me, like I missed it the first time around. It's amazing all the stuff they got away with too, the double entendres and politically incorrect stuff. These days some probably wouldn't be allowed. Good thing it will be on Netflix rather than network TV.

Did you ever notice that in one of those scenes, there's a red doghouse with a beagle laying on top of it in the background?

I mentioned that to a friend one time and she didn't believe me until we went back and watched it again.

I think my favorite line of the entire series has to be when Jessie (the publicist George Michael hires to help the family image) derisively calls him Opie and the Narrator says "Jessie had gone too far, and she had best watch her mouth."

On the Netflix instant queue page, all other shows you can rate by stars, but the other day I noticed that if AD is in your list, it automatically has 5 bananas.

Cool little touch, I thought.
