The district is R+10, Sanford is former Rep from that district so he has high name req, and there will be no Obama push to bring normally non-voting minorities out. Sanford will win in a walk.

2013-04-04 10:22:39 AM
I don't think Colbert wants to take the pay cut.

At least we shouldn't have to hear any of the normal, "family values" claptrap out of him that ever. other. goober in the primary was spouting. God knows he doesn't care about family, and he was even man enough to admit that he had cheated because he fell in love with dat ass.

If Busch wants to win, though, she's going to have to, like, campaign or something. I've seen almost nothing out of her and I live in Charleston! The GOP has their paid trolls working the newspaper comments sections, it seems, too.

"But national Republicans are already worried baggage from his governorship could drag down his candidacy and cost the GOP a seat Mitt Romney won by 18 points."

I didn't realize that Mitt Romney won a South Carolina Congressional seat.

That's some fine editing there, Lou.

This is not a repeat from 2008, 2010, or 2012

2013-04-04 10:43:30 AM
Apparently, the voters only care about "family values" if the gays are involved. Sure, go ahead and cheat on your wife and leave your state in the lurch while you go off having an affair in another freaking country.

Same here. She really needs to advertise herself and put out her platform. On the other hand, maybe she is waiting for the repubs to fight it out amongst themselves and then swoop in. I hope. I don't want Sanford to win.

Hey Mark, Stephen Colbert may not be on the ballot, but you weren't in the state for a few days while on a taxpayer funded booty call to Argentina. Get bent.

/Embarrassed to be from South Carolina right now.

Remember Representative Sanford's stance on the Clinton impeachment? Pepperidge Farms remembers.

2013-04-04 10:49:42 AM
No, it wouldn't be. It would be a terrible idea, for 3 reasons:

1. It would be the end of the Colbert Report, one of two decent news shows on TV right now.

2. A critic is very different from a participant; I'm not at all sure he would enjoy or excel at the slow pace and murky decisions required by the job.

3. Politics is a group enterprise. So long as he's on the outside, he'll be ineffective; as soon as he assimilates, he loses his uniqueness.

I keep forgetting that "family" now means "anti-gay." I guess it is because I have a family and I'm not anti-gay, nor do gay people affect my family in any way. Except for those queer bastards two houses down with their manicured grass and perfect flower beds, making me look bad!

DAMMIT IMMA VOTE SANFORD FOR FAMILY AND REAGAN!

You won't see anything. The DCCC is steering clear of the race. She ran because it was something to do. Lots of people do that. The only mind numbing part about this is that on May the 8th we'll have "How powerful are Colbert and Stewart if they can't even get Colbert's sister elected to a House seat?" which is a question anyone with half a brain would realize is stupid beyond words, yet every major news outlet will run the story at least once.

Our state Democratic party is a joke. I don't blame the DCCC for giving up on us.

And you're no doubt right about the upcoming spin cycle.

My favorite was when he asked his ex wife to be his campaign manager...

Look, I don't care that he cheated on his wife. That's none of my business. But when you disappear out of the country with no explanation to your constituents, and come back and lie about your location? That's a definite breach of the public trust. Why should he be allowed the opportunity to serve South Carolina again in any capacity?

Because a majority of the people of South Carolina don't give a damn.

2013-04-04 11:54:16 AM
Sanford was confident the district's natural conservative tendencies would come through.

And he's probably right.

"Sure, that Sanford guy was derelict in his duties as Governor, disappearing without telling anyone so he could have an extramarital affair... but at least he's not a Democrat"

Better: He illegally went out country (in violation of state law regarding movements of the gov), lied about it, AND used taxpayer money to pay for him cheating on his wife.

Colbert-Busch, were she an Atwater disciple, would likely attempt to hire Jenny Sanford Sullivan for every ad.

As it is, the fact that she's never supported ol Marky Mark post-trail-walking is likely hurting his chances (apparently, if she hasn't forgiven him - like Jesus would - he hasn't really tried apologizing. This is what religious people in SC believe).

Not really subby. I've always found it a bit annoying when people think somebody would be good for public office just because they're a celebrity. Pretty much what's wrong with this country IMO.

Sanford needs to channel his inner Santorum and be honest about his not being honest.

Stupid affair aside, was Sanford a good Governor, or is he just relying on name recognition to win?

Last week when he was talking about his candidacy and morals he had his sons standing behind him.

While not an SCer so I don't know anything else about his tenure, the random abandoning of his post was kind of a dick move. That's probably less important for a legislator than for an executive, though.

I never understood the cult of personality voter. In my state, we elected the terminator because derp potato. Seriously. Now we have moonbeam because of name recognition. It's sad how far the stupid have risen.

Busch has been up on Sanford in two straight polls. But sure, she has no chance.

The best was when a reporter asked a lady why she was voting for Sanford, and her response was, "well...I guess I've always believed in recycling...."

funny thing to me is that the GOP is anti govt. they say that the longer you're in govt the more corrupt you become. and yet they would put this lying cheater back in office.

Her best bet is to make the race all about Sanford, and let her name simply be "not Sanford". Colbert can definitely help beat that drum.

So, to recap: we agree that the Daily Show is better. You apparently thought a particular thing Colbert did was enjoyable but haven't expressed any great love for him other than getting terribly upset that I said I think he is better in small doses and that Stewart is funner. Therefore, I am counting the days until Obama is no longer President?

I have that right?

Are we done feigning astonishment over the GOP caring about election results and not ethics?
