So the journalists should start wearing their own guns, and then to be safe the audience members should start bringing guns, too. And then everybody can just be standing in the room with guns together, celebrating how secure they feel.

Makes sense to me. Yee-ha!

Let's take this to it's logical conclusion: Heroin and syringes for everyone. No more drug problem!

Fascists.

The reporters should have stood their ground.

After using paperboys for target practice, this is the next logical step.

There must be a lot of teens in scary looking hoodies in D.C.

I have to say, if you want good press the best thing to do is use armed guards to harass journalists.

2013-04-04 09:21:19 AM
Now, The Post's Philip Rucker and Ed O'Keefe report the NRA is proposing language to gut the last meaningful gun-control proposal, making gun trafficking a federal crime. Apparently, the gun lobby thinks even criminals deserve Second Amendment protection.

Of course they do, their industry clientele needs more customers.

Gun nutters right here on fark plea for sympathy for misunderstood felons with domestic violence records.

The conference is in DC, a carry permit is basically impossible to get unless you're a security officer or private bodyguard for a living.

I would venture that the speaker wasn't armed either, only the actual guards.

//I had an armed guard on campus when I was in middle school and a few in high school, they were on-duty cops assigned by the city mostly to keep an eye out for drug crime.  If the NRA's willing to pay the salaries I guess it wouldn't hurt anybody.  If they're expecting schools to pay for it they can fark off, though.

Isn't this what were trying to do though? Make sure only one group (govt) is allowed to have firearms and the Rest of us just have to listen and do what they say?

In a spectacle that officials at the National Press Club said they had never seen before, the NRA gunmen directed some photographers not to take pictures, ordered reporters out of the lobby when NRA officials passed and inspected reporters' briefcases before granting them access to the news conference.

If you feel the need to do this to reporters at a press conference, no amount of firearm ownership freedoms/rights/privileges (whatever you want to call them) will ever make you feel safe from bad guys. You are just a gigantic coward, possibly with a tiny penis, and are trying desperately to show the world that no, in fact you are not a coward and your cock is at least better than slightly below average.

2013-04-04 09:24:09 AM
It's OK because the unions were thugs first so the NRA is just standing their ground and furthermore

2013-04-04 09:25:03 AM
That's cute! They were so afraid of the guns they forgot it would be illegal for any of them to be shot!

2013-04-04 09:25:19 AM
Wouldn't it be funny if, because of this, nobody showed up to the NRA's next presser?

Plans for limiting assault weapons and ammunition clips are history, and the prospects for meaningful background checks are bleak.

They only support it because they imagine all the armed guards to be white, and all the children to be black.

I think it perfectly demonstrates the compliance that weapons give you over the public.

Kinda scary to think anyone wielding a gun can hold that kinda power over you...

Kinda makes you want to be able to fight back if you had to.

Shame there is no constitutional amendment about fighting back for the security of your nation...

So if you speak out in favor of guns and there's an armed bodyguard anywhere, OUTRAGE!
And if you speak out in favor gun control and there's an armed bodyguard anywhere, OUTRAGE!

So no one should have bodyguards, and then we can have a more rational debate about who gets to carry guns.

No gun law will ever be passed again in the US. All current firearm and munition restrictions will sunset and never be renewed. Private armies run by billionaires will be the norm, and they will establish their own warlord sections of this country, warring over territory.

I was renting the upper unit of a house in a fairly nice area Arlington VA once.  My landlord stopped by one day.  He had a place in South East D.C. and he was wondering if I would be interested in rent that place instead.  I was concerned about the neighborhood so I asked, 'is it safe there?'  He responded, 'of course it's safe; I put bars to the windows.'

My point being.  If you require bars for your house to be safe then you have a bigger safty problem not solved by the bars.  If we require armed gaurds in our schools for them to be safe then we have a bigger security problem that is not addressed by the armed guards.  The problem is that it is too easy for nuts to get ahold of guns.  The solution is easy, make it harder for nuts to get guns.  The process is already in place; background checks.  Just exand background checks to private sales.

...a government armed with more weaponry and ordnance in a single armory than your entire town, and staffed by people who wouldn't open fire on their fellow citizens for all the opium in Kabul.

It's stupid from both sides.

Actually, fascism is an extreme aspect of authoritarianism. It's merely a subset of authoritarian/totalitarian government, not it's own form. Fascism is an apt description of the tactics being used here.

Pretty much all of US history would like a word.

The notion that the members of the United States military would not fire on US citizens is unsupported by the historical record. They most certainly will fire on US citizens, if they believe the citizens to be a threat to the United States, or to their themselves. Many times that belief has been erroneous, but they do mean it when they pledge to oppose "all enemies, foreign and domestic;". Rightly so.

I guess avoid anything north of Birmingham or more than half a mile outside the limits of a 100k+ city, then, if that's important to you.  Lots of pheasant/quail hunting in your country, among other things.  I kept getting invited to participate last time I was bumming around over there, and I assume they didn't mean to run down the birds and strangle them with our bare hands.

It certainly demonstrates that an armed society is not a polite society, and it certainly is not a free society. Whether or not it's scary to think anyone with a gun can hold that kind of power over you or not is somewhat irrelevant, as that kind of power can be held over people with anything - economically, for instance. As for fighting back, well... that's what voters can do if they choose to elect political leaders who are not going to kowtow to these scared little children. I certainly send letters and e-mails to my elected officials giving them my two cents on the issue. Perhaps we all should.
