we've also seen a lot of dittoheads here on fark who essentially take the same point of view: if you call 'em out on their bullshiat, they think you're some kind of commie invader from mars or something.

the right wing in this country is getting more and more desperate. Limbaugh knows he's not a very important guy anymore too, and I think he's starting to sense just how irrelevant he is to society at large. people are starting to just ignore him now. not even his usual over the top bullshiat is drawing people in anymore. not to mention the exodus of advertisers from talk radio, which is hurting his sales figures. Rush isn't stupid. he knows he's the king of an obsolete technology. But he's decided to ride that bus over the cliff rather than risk switching to something else. he's just not going to go quietly....he wants to blame someone/anyone for his decline...and the decline of the GOP in general too, I suppose.

Drudge's schtick is to aggregate stories that he feels plays into the RW narrative, lie in the headline and then NEVER let people comment or debate on the stories.

Of course Rush has to object to this and the whole "Pavlovian response" comment and I can see why he feels the White House is trying to "eliminate any opposition". Because the statement: "This is less true now than it was, but there is a Pavlovian response from some media outlets" pretty much exposes Rush and other so called "right wing" media outlets really are. Professional trolls whose purpose is to stir up emotion against the "libs" and keep the "derpers" in a perpetual rage in order to stymie any intelligent debate.

Also the more these "right wing rage machines" are ridiculed rather than attacked with anger, the more marginalized they become because they are exposed for what they really are. Using "anger" as a response would be doing what people like Drudge and Rush want because it allows them to play the "victim card".

The Rush Limbaugh with a cigar pic is so dumb. It makes me think of Tony Soprano except all his girlfriends are actually supple underage Dominican boys shaking bottles of Oxycontin like maracas. It makes one wonder if he wants people to think he is a sociopathic, backward-thinking jerk who calls shots from smoke-filled rooms with other supposedly important people. Then I surmise that not only does he want that, but he already has it, with the cult following of hicks he practically despises and uses only for monetary gain. His only similarity with them is that most of them are likely Oxy addicts too. I will not be happy when Rush finally kills himself out of anger and sadness, but I do think it's an eventuality.

The couple of times I've listened to his show, I caught myself holding my breath in apprehension that his heart was going to pop mid-sentence.

Largely the grand slide into the epic clusterfark that was the GOP in 2012 started with Limbaugh and Sandra Fluke. It kicked off and the group got to show their true colors in regards to equal rights for women and how they view the world. Prior to that, they could keep things quiet. But he pulled a major bully move on a slow news day when they were looking for a good news cycle and it just went off in a manner I don't think anyone ever could have predicted.

After that is was just open season for the derpers to emulate their hero and stand up and declare whatever arse-backwards beliefs they had. And it was the perfect timing for the election.

It's pretty easy to pin the loss on him. He might not have been there for the whole ride, but he got the ball rolling.

There's a small problem there, though: Republicans can't tell the difference between anger and ridicule. They just can't. We make fun of their brain-dead asses day in and day out, rarely reaching an anger level above "Meh," yet think about how many of the local trolls respond to our mockery with "HAHA you libs must so furious THEREFORE WE WIN." That's not to say that we shouldn't mock them, of course (even aside from marginalisation and how pointless rage is in general, hell, isn't that the entire point of this tab?), but if you think that Rush and Drudge's responses will be any different either way, you're fooling yourself.
