miss diminutive: thisispete: miss diminutive: thisispete: I've lost 50 lbs (almost 54, actually) so far since i started on New Year's Day this year and I'm relishing the comments.

54 lbs in 3 months?! That's amazing. Has it been a diet and exercise combo or something more exotic, like daily mango infused colonic cleanses?

Diet and Xenical. I started at 394, so I have quite a high basal metabolic rate. Basically I'm eating enough to support a 180 lb person and letting nature take its course. I'm avoiding sugar and fat and maintaining portion control. And I'm not suffering the side effects with the drug that I had the first time I tried it because my diet is quite low in fat. I've learnt to tolerate and in some cases enjoy a wider range of fruits and vegetables, and this is the result so far

Cool. Best of luck to you! Question though, how do you know how much food is required to support a 180 lb person? I mean, I'm sure you could just crunch the numbers on how many calories are needed to keep you alive, but doesn't activity level play a pretty significant role? I would imagine that a 180 lb marathon runner would need substantially different nutritional input than a 180 lb couch potato.

For general exercise, you don't count the calories you burned because it's going to be very insignificant. Almost no one runs marathons every day.

Yeah I know what you mean, I lost 80lbs and about 8inches on my waist, everyone who went without seeing me commented, I even had a guy, whom I don't know but has a shop by my house, commented on it.

It's like the only socially acceptable way of saying "hey you seem less ugly"

Or it could also be a harmless comment to acknowledge the fact that you seem to have been working on your body, which in general does happen to make people more attractive. but by all means keep taking offence to people taking notice.

This is close to the angle in the SNL sexual harassment spoof.

Person while overweight at the bar: "No one will talk to me or give me the time of day."

Person after weight loss: "Who are all these creeps trying to talk to me at the bar?"

Person when Tom Brady approaches: "Oh Hai?!"

you may want to reconsider that no fat thing. fat does not make you fat, but what it does do is provide lubrication for your joints, so unless you want arthritis at a very young age, then you may want to reconsider that fat angle.

Agreed. Your body uses fat to make cell membranes and for your hair and skin. Fat is an essential part of the diet. The key is to consume unsaturated fat from plant sources, and a limited amount of saturated fat. If you are getting your fat from vegetables and nuts this isn't difficult. Fat does not make you fat, it is more calorie dense per gram than protein or carbs, but it is essential to your body so to cut it out completely (if you even could) would be silly.

no, it's quite possible they are her old pants. when you're fat the fat takes up more room in the pants, and holds them up.

i have only lost about 20-25 lb, but i have a pair of pants that went from fitting (somewhat loosely, but i can't stand tight-fitting clothes at any weight) to being very baggy and hanging down too far past my ankles. shirts are even far more noticeable...shirts that used to fit and barely come down past my gut now swallow me

Wow, that's sad. This is a cognitive behavior that somehow serves her. There's a much deeper reason why she is "married" to that self belief. See, bullying works. I don't get where these anti-bullying campaigns think they are helping anybody, because if you are being bullied you deserve it. You obviously are outside the norm and need to be hit in the head until driven back into acceptable societal standards.

It is those who are anti-bullying that are the real bullies, preventing those poor people and children from achieving their true potential through adversarial peer pressure.

[www.troll.me image 552x360]

It's English and I know you only speak two languages American and bad American, so I'll translate. A stone is a measure of weight equivalent to roughly 14 pounds. A biscuit is what Americans call cookies. So the translation is TEENAGER EMMA DAY HAS LOST 98 POUNDS BY NOT EATING COOKIES.

Why? Americans aren't going to start using those terms any time soon. Unless you'll be travelling to Britain this knowledge falls under the category of useless trivia. You're a competitive athlete, not a normal person just trying to not be fat.

For these people, their daily 30 to 60 minutes of moderate exercise isn't going to burn off more than something like 400 calories. Drinking a single soda will destroy over half that work.

I am utterly sedentary. Disabled, crippling (literally!) spinal pain means small amount of walking (think 2-3 houses and back on a really good day), electric wheelchair (manual aggravates the pain), large amount of drugs.

Metabolism had to crash land after huge car accident (yes i know) from biking everywhere, youngest two kidlets in a trailer attached, often riding 2-3 hours a day for fun/meditation, to nada. I was starving for ages until it worked itself out, a good year or two for metabolism to adjust to sedentary.

I have maintained my 173cm at 67kilos for last few years. It means I eat the same things, just less. Vegetarian for 20 years, plus Australia has no HFC issues, and good access to reasonably priced variety of fresh fruit and veg. If I find I am feeling like it is rising, I cut back portions. At 46 and after having five kids, and years of watching a beloved friend drowning in her own flesh, I decided to continue to take care of myself.
