So insulting the Egyptian President can cause you to be arrested and dragged off by the Egyptian police?

Dear President Mohammad Morsi,

You smell like the fetid coont of a Cairo prostitute at three in the morning. Your intelligence is less than that of the shiat your mother just took into your father's mouth. You have sex with pigs. Please feel free to fark off and die.

said the guy who had a comedian arrested over a joke about a hat.

MmmmBacon: Good.

Literally came in here to say that.

Remember this is the country that literally killed all of its pigs because Swine Flu had the word swine in it. Their cultural advancement and scientific understanding is... primitive to say the least. I mean how unsophisticated do you have to be to jail a comedian for speech?

You owe Cairo prostitutes an apology for that insult as they are a much higher level of class than that Morsi c00nt.

I think jokes and ridicule should be become a standard part of our diplomatic mission.  It sure beats the hell out of bombing the crap out of a country.  Though the islamic response to insults does seem to involve shiat blowing up, unfortunately.

I really like that idea.

Just flat out open mockery, and the moment they complain just say "you can't even take a joke? what kind of a leader are you?".

This is the second time the Egyptian embassy twitter account has posted something controversial that pissed off the locals, right?

Whoever has the password to that thing needs to be reassigned.

I suppose you could look at it as poor judgment, but frankly I think the Egyptian government deserved to see Morsi's ridiculous hypocrisy laid bare and ridiculed in typical Jon Stewart fashion.

Done in one.

Anything that exposes the crazypantsedness is a good thing. Being a diplomat does NOT mean never offending anybody anywhere at any time.

It's times like this that we have a duty to offend.

Well its good to know that Hillary sent out a directive that every embassy have its own Twitter feed. Though I'm sure the ambassador to Libya would have preferred more guards with guns. Especially when his counterparts in Egypt and Tunisia decide its time to start tweeting segments from Stewart and Colbert.

A Twitter feed doesn't have a cost. If the Libyan ambassador needed more guards, Congress should have funded them.

And the embassy should apologize for nothing. If that offended the Egyptian government, then the Egyptian government is the problem. It was a call for them to not be dicks.

The only thing inappropriate and unbecoming here is their locking up a satirist for satirizing.  But hey, they're just locking him up instead of murdering him; I guess that's what passes for 'progress' in the Muslim world.

Ignoring that American rudeness is not welcome everywhere is ignorant and amateur. Words do have meaning. People take offense. Nothing new.

2013-04-04 04:00:49 AM
The president should get some guys in whatever agency to subtitle it in Egyptian and send it in a ribboned package to Morsi.

Seriously, we shouldn't have to apologize. We SHOULD occasionally risk "diplomatic incidents" over this sort of stuff. Maybe they would start thinking twice. Maybe then the US could plausibly say that it supports democracy worldwide.

wow. you honestly believe if they didn't have twitter accounts they would have more guards....amazing...

Soooo he puts a guy in jail for making fun of his hat, then gets mad when someone points out that this is stupid and immature? Yeah that totally sounds like the kind of stable dude you want running a country.

I wonder if in ten years he will be a full-blown dictator, and if so, will we all look back at this and say yeah, that was when we should have known?

KrispyKritter: American rudeness

what exactly was rude?

2013-04-04 04:04:49 AM
Registering the US's disapproval of things like arresting journalists for not sucking the local president's dick every time they're on air is... pretty much exactly what embassies are for, dude.

The wording of TFA actually makes it seem that the reason their bosses are upset with them is because they  removed the tweet after the fact, not that they made it.  Stewart's rant actually pretty much summarizes the US position on the matter, iirc.

KrispyKritter: Ignoring that American rudeness is not welcome everywhere is ignorant and amateur. Words do have meaning. People take offense. Nothing new.

The bit was not rude at all, did you not watch it or are you functionally illiterate?  Most of it consisted of playing a clip of Egypt's president saying his government wouldn't do exactly this (arrest journalists for expressing disapproval of his actions) without any real commentary.

Oh please. Satire =/= rudeness. Pointing out the flaws of world leaders isn't ignorance.
