So... where are those who keep trying to tell me that a police state could never happen? That 2A supporters are paranoid and being in some fiction where a small group of power holders manipulates the law to give itself more and more power over the populace?

They're doing it right in some people's estimation. DoJ is behind this, gives prosecutors bigger clout in plea negotiations.

Not even joking, FreedomWorks (one of the two main groups spawned by Friends-of-Koch, major TEA group) and the ACLU are both against this expansion.
