Does that mean we'll get a week of expensive million-dollar sketches?

Oh, wait, that only applies to those who *attempt* to take Jay's place

Goodnight, unfunnyman.

'Bye-'bye, Tonight Show. It was nice watching you.

Our long, national late-nightmare is over.

NBC is terrible

2013-04-03 02:29:34 PM
So, Leno will be back by 2015, and Fallon will have a show at midnight on TBS?

2013-04-03 02:35:11 PM
NBC should just run Carson re-runs especially the ones back in the day when they were drinking and smoking during the interview. Plus what happened to the guests sticking around.

I'd watch that. Every night would be better than anything that's currently on at 1130.

2013-04-03 02:53:17 PM
If TBS moved Conan's show back an hour, and gave his old time to Leno, I would never stop laughing.

And I say that as someone that generally enjoys Conan and loathes Leno.

You'd never get away with the smoking, but yeah, it would be great if the entertainers of today were mildly interesting. One of the reasons I used to love Conan was that the guests usually used to stick around. Plus Andy Richter.

Leno sucks but Fallon blows.

Ha, I upvoted another thread without seeing that this had already been greened. Great job on approving a headline that avoided the easy joke, mods.

When Leno goes to Fox, you'll have, within an hour, the choice of Letterman, Kimmel, Conan, Fallon, Stewart, Colbert and Jay.

Carson had it easy.

2013-04-03 03:44:41 PM
Will The Roots be sticking around? I would hope so, but I do not know the extent of their contract. I know they would not have moved to LA, but staying in NYC should be fine with them.

How long before Fallon will be replaced by El Chino?

Not gonna happen.  Fox could have had Conan.  The affiliates are happier with their syndication.  At this point it's good counter programming for those that DON'T want a talk show.

Decillion: Carson had it easy.

Pat Sejak, Joan Rivers, Arsenio Hall all failed against Carson, and he was only doing 3 nights a week then.

/Arsenio later did indeed become competition but that was a syndicated show and could be edgier than a network show.

2013-04-03 03:53:36 PM
So, now what? For a monologue, he's gonna come out every night in some ethnic stereotype outfit and tell me he has 50% more something? Then a baby is going to throw something at his dick?

Yeah, OK - I'd watch that for a few weeks...

I don't f*cking care, it's not important. LucasArts just got shut down, now that is important.

Just let the "Tonight Show" and sell some boxed sets involving Carson & Letterman when they were on.

I am fairly convinced that anyone is going to do a better job than Leno.

Speaking of people that should retire, why is David Letterman still on the air?  He hasn't been funny nor relevant since the late 80's.

The guy still does live shows like every weekend in vegas or reno or places like that. I assume that when he leaves NBC he will probably just do vegas full time. The guy seems like the definition of a workaholic.

That's funny. Seems to me if you really didn't care, you wouldn't feel the need to go on the internet and tell everyone. Because then you legitimately wouldn't care.

I never knew this.  I do remember way back before he got the Tonight Show he did an interview where he confirmed he was booked solid for something like three and a half years - so your workaholic comment doesn't surprise me.  The Vegas thing is kind of disappointing.  I was hoping he'd shed that stank from overly catering to decency and sponsors.  Whattawhore.

Craig Ferguson is the most spiritually similar to Carson and certainly the best interviewer. His show was really entertaining and always had its unexpected and unscripted moments (and even silly Carsonesque skits)... well, up until he got the horsey and the robot skeleton and started phoning in the same damn show every night.

I wonder how many bodies ended up getting dumped in that hole.

"Don't do it, Jimmy!"

Seriously, Jimmy, do NOT take the job until Jay Leno is dead, a wooden stake driven through whatever alien lump of flesh that passes for his heart, and buried under 30 feet of ferro-concrete. And even then, get a parachute clause. A good one.

Jay Leno is a douchebag. Screwed Carson, screwed Letterman, screwed Conan. And he's gonna screw you too, Jimmy. Even if he's dead, he'll fashion some sort of zombie strap-on out of $100 bills and fark you with it. And no lube.

I think he'd mix it up better at the Tonight Show, though. He'd have a much larger support network across the board, from guest booking to comedians to money. I've got nothing against Fallon, he's done better than I expected him to, but he can't hold a candle to Ferguson with the same support.

I hope Dave stays on forever. TV needs a grumpy old man and he's been around long enough to tell people to get stuffed.
